    New home...

Hi $ilk Minimum wage for this area is the same, this is set by the Federal Government so it's the same across the US. It is almost impossible for anyone making minimum wages to afford purchasing a home in my area. Houses and land have also skyrocketed where I live, in some areas you can't even find a piece of land to build on. It's easy to understand why people are buying land in your area, it's still reasonably priced compared to other areas. Land is currently going for 250k an acre and above here in New York. IMO buying land and/or a home is still the safest investment you can make, it will appreciate in value over time. My wife and I were interested in buying a summer home on the Jersey shore, the same houses that were being sold for 100k two years ago are now selling for over 350k, needless to say it's a little too expensive for my taste. So it sounds like you got a great deal for your money and you could expect to make a good profit if you decide to sell it in a few years. Best of luck and now go out and buy that furniture that your wife wants. [ 08-22-2002, 02:47 PM: Message edited by: Gordon ]

    New home...

First off $ilk congrats. Nothing more rewarding than owning your own house. Did I read your original post right, that the house cost you 46,500. Since I live in New York I'm not used to prices like that. If so consider yourself lucky, my fist house cost me 126k with 25k down and my present home cost 227k with 45k down . My current taxes are 8k a year, so all in all you made out quite well. Now the fun begins for you. Your wife will now tell you that since we have this new house she will need new furniture to put in it and so on and so on. Again, congrats and enjoy your new investment. 4. Happy Birthday Derek ! Enjoy what's left of your special day.
  5. Hey Race, Egosoft just re-released X-Gold which combines X-Beyond the Frontier and X-tension in the english version. I own and played X-BTF and have just ordered the X-Gold package. Pretty good space game, I enjoyed it allot. You can not visit planets like BCM but you can build your own factories for trading and alliances with different races. You can only order it online at their site and must pay via credit card as they only accept Eurodollars. X-Tension is an add on to the original which allows you to fly different ships and they made the AI much harder. I can't wait until I get my copy as I am quite interested in playing the add on. You can check out their site at egosoft.com but I sure your old machine will be fine.

Heh, well my kids are older (one in 9th grade and one in 7th), but I can sympathize with you, from Kid Songs to Power Rangers it's amazing I still have some of my sanity. The ironic part is that they (my kids) now get to use my theatre system cranked up more than I do, so that's what you got to look forward to.
  7. I know the feeling, although I must say that when it comes to music my wife likes to crank it up as much as me. My wife and I usually get to watch movies on my big screen TV with surround sound after the kids go to bed so we have no choice but to keep it low, kinda defeats the surround sound effects. When we get some time alone we usually crank it up that our neighbors can hear it across the street. Nothing better than a kickass system playing at full volume. The opening scene in Saving Private Ryan sent my dog running for her life or so she thought. The best is when using the surround sound and my dog thinks that someone or something is in the house, she goes from room to room patrolling the house barking madly.
  8. Good to have you back Rattler. Rattler read your PM's [ 03-09-2002, 00:33: Message edited by: Gordon ]

  10. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Commander: It seems GALCOM is giving away ranks to every two bit yahoo cmdr these days. Ouch! Just one thing SC, I took a look at the appendix, I should not have made the rank of Supreme Commander until I reached 250,000 EP's as you can see I'm barely over 200,000.
  11. quote: Originally posted by Roberto Doesnt that radiate your crew when you stay cloaked for so long??? From what I remember your crew will get radiated if you were to stay cloaked past a certain amount of time, just don't remember how long before it happens. I usually won't stay cloaked for more than 10 minutes at a time, but at least I will not need to fill up for quite a long time. And if need be I can always sell some of it for a profit.
  12. Time for an update since the release of 1.0.06 Date: 4/4/3010 Time: 23:41 Rank: Supreme Commander Finances: 3,484,045,998 Inventory: 57,951,650 EP's: 206,166 As you can see I have spent most of my time doing trade runs with an occasional visit to various planets for some bomb runs. I currently have all artifacts, except those needed for Random since my crew is still dumb as a stump they're not necessary yet. I fly a MK3 and currently can stay cloaked for over 16 hours so I guess it's time to pay a visit to some hostile stations and see if I can pursuade them to let me have their station for my very own.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Race Bannon Grayfox if you are out there assure me I'm not the only Dino Rocker.. Well I'm not Grayfox but you are not alone, I currently have about 30 mp3 tracks in my BCM music folder with songs from groups like Yes, Led Zeppelin, ELP, Primus and more. I also enjoy Fleetwood Mac (up to and including Rumours), Steely Dan, Rolling Stones, The Who, of course the Beatles beside other early rock bands. I also enjoy Jazz and some Classical but early rock is what I grew up with. I guess I could also be called a Dino Rocker, but I like it, like it, yes I do!
  14. My congrats to the Canadian hockey team and their fans, being a Ranger fan I can relate to the celebrations that are going on in Canada after the long drought. All in all it was a very entertaining game and although I would like to have seen the US team win,it was nice that Mario got the gold, seeing all that he has gone through. Hopefully we can give you a run for your money in four years.
  15. Hey no problem Duncan or should I say "Supreme Commander"
  16. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Commander heh, talk about a bomb run It's a dirty job but somebody has to do it.
  17. I usually do a trade route between Galcom and Wraith, buying weapons at Galcom and selling them at Wraith. The easiest way to gain EP's is to bomb the heck out of enemy bases, I will stop at Lyrius on the way to Wraith and drop 5 OTS per trip, easy 20,000 EP's. You don't even have to use the most expensive OTS either to destroy a complete enemy base. I then trade the balance of OTS at Wraith which more than compensates for the bombs that I dropped on the planet.
  18. Can't really add much more than the rest have already said. Nothing more important than family, I'll say a special prayer for Morgan and your family during your time of crisis. Keep the faith.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Commander: While they may appear to be near invincible (at first glance), they really aren't...if you know what you're doing. All it takes is some very good tactics. A fleet would help too. Well this was supposed to be a thinking man's (or woman's) game so commanders start thinking. Some of you may gripe about it being too hard, but as Gallion stated you have to step your commanding skills up a notch or two. In the long run the SC is doing us a favor, once we get MP your skills should be vastly improved.
  20. Wait until you feast your eyes on BCM you're going to have a blast. You'll have to use your professional occupation to help on some of us already playing BCM. If you guys don't know what I'm talking about this is from Race's Profile: Occupation: Addictions Counselor Now the hard part is how do you explain your new addiction to those you are conseling
  21. The main problem is that you can cloak your CC and be undetected by the station. I can park my CC in front of the station and use the PAD and never once get attacked by the station or have it launch ships at me. If you ever try this while uncloaked your dead within minutes. IMO having all cloaked ships be detected within a certain proximity to the station or that you must decloak to fire your weapons would resolve the ease of station capture or destruction. This would also be essential for MP. [ 02-10-2002, 13:35: Message edited by: Gordon ]
  22. Since we all have been playing for a while I am curious to see how everybody is doing in their games. Maybe some of the noobs will use this topic and finally post. Since I started this topic here is how my game is going. Date: 04/04/3010 Time: 23:32 (10 1/2 hours of game time) EP's: 104,118 Finances: 280,899,410 Inventory: 19,110,175 Medals: Combat Shield 1 Violations: 0 Post your game results and add anything I may have missed.
  23. After reading Firball's post it seems that these two systems have been destroyed. Galcom will not replace these systems, you will need to get your vessel to Wraith which should allow these replacements. This of course is assuming that you started a career as a Terran/Military Commander. If Wraith will not allow you to replace these systems you must then try the other friendly stations. This is from page 63 of the manual 11.1 Repair Operations paragraph 2 quote:Not all Facilities will provide spare parts every time, even if they have said parts in stock.also from the same paragraph quote:And just because the station has parts, doesn't mean that they're going to give them to you.
