  1. Well, it's been a few months since I checked this forum, so I decided to get a little caught up. (I've been sticking mostly to the rpg) One thing I've noticed is that the idea that we have to be carefull or have an entire fleet up our *ahem*. Personally, I don't see how one event can suddenly be known to every commander of an entire fleet instantly. I'd understand if someone has had a long career of doing 'bad things', that there would be a warrant put up on the open channels, but not for an isolated event. Communication just doesn't happen that quickly. The attacked ship/base, etc... would have to send out a warning to everything in it's communication range (Which will likely be limited), and then it would have to get out from there. That is if they get a chance to send a signal, or if there are witnesses even. Just my two cents, and a lot of hot air. (I just hope I don't get booted ) My readings on the site have led me to believe that Dr Smart made this game as realistic as possible, and logically that would include communications, and character knowledge. As to the guilds idea, I was thinking that we could have not so much 'guilds', as 'corporations'. Especially for the official mercs. "Want escort services for you're risky trade routes? Call on the Black Guard, they'll hook you up. Here's the number to call." Things like that. [ 05-31-2001: Message edited by: Caine ]
  2. Perhaps this would be a good time for Foss to catch up... IF he ever get's around to it, LOL
  3. Where'd everyone go? I'm lonely now. [rp] GCV Mckendrick Guest quarters Caine hurt from laughing so hard, but it was careless the mistake the newsmen made. For starters, the LEO was a Nightstar carrier, not a Megeron. secondly, if anyone ever did get a hold of th ship, they would find a full compliment of missiles, not one missing. He suddenly sobered when he realised that most of the enforcement officers out in space didn't really bother checking for things like that, exept perhaps scanning the debris of the ship once it was 'subdued'. That, combined with an already two year old warrant for treason, going awol from training, etc... would make life difficult for his ship. Especially if they atre really going to the lion's den. If his ship is discovered there, they all were in for a world of hurt. "I need to contact my ship." He mumbled to himself as he climbed into the small bed, and commanded the lights off. ------------ UCV LEO, Turbo lift around deck two Jo continued conversationally as she shared the lift with the men she rescued. "How important is it that you catch the vulture?" The lift slowed, and the doors opened to the second deck. Jo continued talking as she exited. "Perhaps, for a price, we could catch it for you. That is, if you know where it's heading." She then led the pair to a room that looked comfortable, if a little spartan. "In either case, you can buzz me on the comm. I need to get back to my duties." She then left the two men, and headed back to the bridge. She was going on her sixteenth hour on shift, and wanted to end it. Once she entered, she went over to Huber's station. The man was fortunate enough to have gotten sleep in the past day, so he was still at his post when she got there, but he was due to go off soon as well. "Huber, I want you to monitor and record ALL outgoing signals. Have your replacement do the same. The pair are hiding a fair bit from us, and I hope to find out what." [/rp] Communications are unrestricted, exept for priority channels of course.
  4. [rp] UCV 'LEO' Deck three, main corridor. Jo stepped aside silently, shock registering slightly on her face at the ship's description. It had to be the vulture, it was the only thing that fit. She then turned and left the bay, slowly leading the man to some guest quarters. With those questions answerd, a great deal more appeared. Why did they attack the transport? Do they know where it's going? Do they know it's mission? Do they even know it was destroyed, and the crew transferred to another ship? It seemed that Jo and Caine stepped into both sides of something big. Thankfully, mercs don't take sides often. As they walked towards the lifts, Jo introduced herself. "My name is Jo Shtann, I am the first officer of the Leo. The commander is currently on a mission, so if you have any questions, I'm the one you ask." She chose her words carefully, trying to avoid letting on that Caine was with the crew of the late vulture, having been sucked into their little operation, whatever it was. "Why did you attack the um... LRT-15 was it? Were they carrying contraband or something?" The doors to the lift opened smoothly, and she stepped in, waiting for Maddox to follow. -------------- GCV Mckendrick Personal quarters. Klaxons suddenly went off, startling Caine slightly as he tried to rest on the plin bed. They only lasted a few minutes before turning off, but by that time he was wide awake again. Standing, he went to the door and tried the door for the tenth time, and it was still locked. Frustrated, he went over to a vid screen, and tried to see if the communication's officers would at least allow their 'guests' to scan the news nets. (I'm presuming that a few channels will be allowed. If not, than I'll fix this section later ) After a little scanning, Caine found that even the viewable broadcast channels were restricted to only a few. Among them was GNN. Bored, he decided to catch the tail end of a special report they had. It talked about some bombing at a station, and the subsequent dissapearance of two ships. When the vulture was mentioned, Caine gave the broadcast his full attention. But there was little else said. At the very end, they showed a clip of a ship firing missiles on a beat-up transport, and it's subsequent destruction. Terror and mayhem hit close to home today. [ - GNN ‘vid viewer queue changes from Connie to a TacOps viewer PoV zoomed to the S.S. Vulture, just minutes before its destruction. -] [ - The view zooms out from the Vulture and centers on a Megeron Class Carrier, the UCV Leo. It appears that the UCV Leo launches several missiles at the S.S. It appears that the missiles reach the Vulture milliseconds before the Vulture explodes - ] [ - GNN ‘vid viewer changes back to the GNN anchor desk and Connie ... -] Caine turned the vid-screen off, and a slow smirk appeared on his face. Then it broadened into a smile. Within moments, he was laughing. [/rp] Has the intrepid commander snapped? Or is there something funny about being framed, again? Tune in next time and see..... 5. [rp] UCV Leo Medibay Jo refused to let the man out of the med bay untill he answered her questions. He tried to leave several times before finally giving up. "By the way, when will I be able to contact Galcom HQ for a new cruiser? I would really appreciate it." "Answer my questions first, and I'll take you to a starbase as soon as we're able." Jo wouldn't let the man change the subject. She then crossed her arms. "Under our current situation, I'm afraid using comms is out of the question." [rp] Jo will refuse to let you leave the med-bay until you answer her questions.
  6. [rp] UCV 'LEO' Transport bay The medic calmly walked towards the pair still standing resolutely where they appeared, seeming to not hear the stern command of the security officer. "Your sidearm, drop it...please. It is merely a precaution. You'll get it back if things check out." The med officer placed a small mask over the face of Maddox's face, then turned towards the other officer seeming to think he's a monkey, and tried to get one over his face as well. "It's enriched air. It'll help." The four then led their guests to the med bay, which seemed a little understaffed. There Jo waited, a pleasent smile on her face, welcome after the irresolute grimace of the chief of security. "Sorry to be abrupt, but we're a little busy right now. I have a few questions I'd like to ask." The Vesperon waited as the med officer ran a few scans. "No severe injuries, at least, none life threaening. A couple sprains, a small cut here or there, ..." He paused as he pulled a small fragment from Maddox's back, over his kidneys. "A bone splinter here and there, not yours I presume?" He showed the centimeter long bone fragment to Maddox from the end of a pair of forceps. "Any deeper, and it would have pierced a kidney. Stuff's sharp as glass when it shatters." Clearing her throat, Jo began asking questions. "What happened to cause so much damage to your ship?" pause for answer "Where were you going?" pause "Where you from? Pause "Now give me the truth" Jo always asked these same questions. The last one often rattled people that were actually lying. Make them think that she knows they're lying. Her expressions were practiced to look gnuine to all but most observant of people. (It even worked on her husband on more than one occasion) --------- Mckendric Galley After speaking with the man for several more minutes, he decided to retire to his quarters to get some much needed rest. "I guess Whether the line works or not, I'll be seeing you around." He extended his hand in an offer to shake. --(Whether the shake is accepted or not)-- Caine then turned, and left the Galley. His steps quickly took him to his 'guest' quarters, and was surprised to see a man standing outside the door, holding a rifle. The man nodded as Caine entered, making him feel edgy. The instant he closed the door, he heard a 'click' from outside his door. He knew it was locked. "Dammit, Just because I'm a merc doesn't mean I should be treated like one." He mumbled under his breath. [/rp]
  7. UCV 'LEO' Bridge "We're thirty seconds from transport range Jo." "Good. So long as the ship holds together, they'll make it. Open channel." "Done" "We're almost in range of transport. How many survivors are there?" A fuzzy message came in return. "Ju-- the two of us, and Smith here has assu--dly lost it. We're on the ---dge." Huber spoke a few seconds later. "In range. I'm transporting now." Jo spoke into the comms. "Security team one to transport, we have a few guests to entertain. Bring a unit with you as well." ---------------- GCV McKendrick Galley "Glad to hear it. I just hope he doesn't get found out. If I'm going on this fooferah, I'm going with people and equipment I can trust." (Namely, a team from his ship) He leaned foreward slightly on the table. "Besides, Galcom has had a warrant on me for a few years now on some trumped up charges or another. I don't feel like being shot in the back." He then slammed the rest of his drink. "You know what's on the menue here?" [/rp] Maddox and Smith, you'll have a few seconds to look around before scurity shows up with a med team. They're going to take you to Medibay for treatment. (With sedation if necessary)
  8. UCV 'LEO' bridge "Any word?" "Not yet Jo, we're scanning any channel we can think of, and a few other possabilities as well, but there is no signal from Caine yet." A small icon appears on Huber's consol. "I think I've got something. Naw, it's just a news broadcast. Says there's a special report though." Jo was getting tired, she hadn't slept in ten hours, and most of that time has been spent grinding her teeth. "I don't really care Huber." Dejected, he recorded the GNN newscast, and saved it to his personal bank. He'd watch it later. Just as that completed, a second icon appeared, flashing red on the screen. "I've got a distress signal a couple hundred clicks away. It isn't on the progected course from when we lost the signal, but they could have turned. "Show it." ----------- SOS signal from GCV HarksRader: This is Captian Maddox of the GCV HarksRadar. We have suffered major damage and need transport off this ship. I repeat. This is Commander Maddox of the GCV HarksRader. We have......... the signal died suddenly, then was replaced by something else. This is Commander MAddox of the HarksRader requesting immediate assistance. I have no power and am stuck on a ship with an idiot who has managed to burn himself, break a console, eject the reactor, drain most of our power. and finds it funny. HELP ME PLEASE!! --------------- "UH... do we change course? Sounds like the lack of O2 is getting to them." Jo was torn. She knew they had lost the other ship, but they were able to make a rough estimate that they were heading towards Earth, or rather, it's moon. (OOC: close but not exact, tee hee ) Finally, she decided it could prove worth the trouble. "Change course." [/rp]
  9. I hope I don't fubar this post, but I haven't read anything on if Zeke was captured or not. If I really mess up, someone let me know? [rp] 20th May, 3008 GCV-McKendrick Bridge Caine stepped out of the lift into a virtually empty bridge. There was a security officer looking over a panel as he spoke over a comm. He was directing a security team to deck three. He looked up to see Caine as he walked over. "What are you doing here?" The man was big, and looked to be unhappy. "Just came to see blades. Or whoever it is running this op. I have an offer to make." "Well, you're too late, they're all either in bed, or eating." He didn't bother mentioning the intruder alert. "Now I'm kinda busy. Why don't you try to find them in the galley?" Fustrated, Caine didn't even bother with a response as he turned back to the lift. "Deck" came the impersonal voice, oblivious to everything but what's inside. "Whichever one has the galley." The lift began moving, but stopped only a few seconds later. When the doors opened, he saw the once blinded merc he helped to the medibay. It was obvious he wasn't any more, but he seemed a little...nervous. He was about to turn around, when Caine said hello. "How's the eye? Got 'em fixed I presume." The man paused, and gave him a quizzical look. *Of course, he was blind. He couldn't exactly see what he looked like before.* "I'm the one that helped you to the med bay." Recognition dawned on the other man, and he quickly stepped into the lift. As they rode, the other man gave a different deck. "How's the link with the outside coming?" [/rp] This could get Caine in hot water... Being caught with an intruder.
  10. MAN! A lot has happened in the past couple days. I'd better catch up. [rp] 19 May, 3008 GCV McKendrick Medibay After searching for several minutes, Caine finally came across someone who was willing to bother giving him the direction of the McKendrick's medibay. After a quick ride in a lift, he managed to lead the engineers, and his new, blind friend, to the bay. There he saw that nearly every bed was filled with injured, but at least the chaos was controlled. Not having the impending explosion of a ship makes running a med bay easier. He led the blind man to a bed. "Let me know when you get an outside line. I have a few things to do." Caine whispered quietly to him, carefull to not be overheard. He would have just had his implant fixed, but somehow he doubted that would be allowed. He then smiled, and slapped him on the back genially before leaving the bay. Caine then turned his steps to the bridge. After all, the ringmaster of this little circus did leave an open invite to see him about problems and such. [/rp] Well, it's not so much a problem, as it is an offer The Leo is still following. By the way, it is, and always has been, uncloaked. No one has told Jo to be indiscreet.
  11. [rp] 19th May, 3008 GCV-McKendrick Cargobay One As the man looked up, Caine saw the opaque eyes, and fully expected to be smacked for asking such a stupid question. Before he could respond, and try to save face, he overheard the foced briefing. *Earth? Rendezvous? What the hell have you gotten yourself into now Caine.* The blind man interrupted Caine's brooding, and asked where the med bay was. "Damned if I know sport, I just got here. Hell, I don't even know where 'here' is right now." Caine thought for a minute as he continued to listen in on the briefing, then an idea hit him. "Tell you what. If I help you get to a med bay, will you help me get a message out? I don't care how, but I need to contact my ship. Judging from what's going on, these clowns are going to need help, which means I can still make something of this." It was obvious that Blades had finished his speech, because the room erupted in a chorus of questions and demands. Amongst the chaos, he spied three of the engineers, one looking worse for wear judging by the odd angle of his leg. "Follow me my good man." He spoke to who he presumed was a merc, as he offered a shoulder to guide the man. He then made his way towards the only familiar faces on the boat. "Where is Cathy?" He didn't even want to know what happened to the missing engineer, but knew with certaity that he'd find out sooner or later. "She went to the Medibay already. She's waiting to collect the wounded, again." The engineer's suit had a burn across the chest, and the helmet which sat beside him had a spider-web crack that covered the entire faceplate. "Dare I ask what happened to Edson?" He knew it would be messy, but he had to ask. "It was like a giant decided to pinch the corridor shut, and he was in the way. Well, half in the way. We had to leave him behind." No more details were needed, he could imagine well enough the gore that could be expected. Instead of thinking about the matter, he bent down to help the others carry the engineer with the broken leg, then he set about getting directions. [/rp]
  12. Looks like I fell a little behind here. I'd better get caught up [rp] SS Vulture Cargo bay "Caine! Get your but over here!" *That's my cmo, always willing or order her commander around.* He thought as he moved closer to her. Shudders were running all across the ship, accompanied by the groans of straining steel. Caine noticed foss staring at him, a look of surprise mixed with just a little anger. He looked familiar to Caine, but he didn't recognise him. *Must be my reputation.* He bent down and prepared to lend a hand, when an explosion elsewhere on the ship shook the deckplates, sending him to the ground, smacking his already sore head against a large container. Before he could even stand again, a second explosion rocked the ship from below, sending the container toppling over, nearly crushing him under it. Strangely, Caine felt rather calm facing his final moments, and found his thoughts turning to his wife as he waited for the bay to tear open, and suck him into space. He looked to the side, just in time to see a few engineers stumble into the cargo bay. Then he began to feel strange, like his skin was going numb. *Good ol' Jo, I knew she'd come through somehow.* The world faded out of view, just as a door was ripped out of it's frame, exposing the bay to the harsh silence of space, and death. When it faded in again, Caine slowly stood, rubbing the back of his head. He heard someone speaking, but ignored what was said, concentrating on staying vertical. He knew right away he wasn't back on the 'Leo', and sighed inwardly at still being stuck with this damn fool of a mission, whatever it is. Then a body ran into his, nearly knocking him off his feet again. "Hey, watch where you're goin would ya? Where's the fire?" He turned to see another merc, a wrist-laser at his side. Caine didn't recognise him. "You blind or somethig?" UCV LEO Bridge "The distortion just gave off a spike, Jo" Huber reported, snapping the vesperon out of her brooding. "Details would help." She was getting impatient with the whole situation. "There aren't any to give. The distortion passed within 100 yards of the Vulture, there was an energy spike, and-" The report was cut off as an alarm sounded on the officer's consol. "The Vulture is tearing itself apart, I wouldn't give it long before a breach makes the whole sucker blow." "Safe distance?" Jo asked, as she said a silent prayer that Caine wasn't on board. "We're fine here, our shields could absorb the shockwave without any trouble. But the disturbance is moving away." *Dammit Caine, what the hell is happening?* Moments later, Huber interrrupted her thoughts again. "Dammit Huber, what now?" "Another disturbance has come up from behind us, and it's moving to follow contestant 'A'." "Could it be the Graf Spee?" "Dunno, though it's likely judging from where it came from." "Well, I guess either way we follow too." Jo just hoped that her hunch was correct. The last thing she wanted to do was to leave Caine behind. [/rp]
  13. [rp] 19 May, 3008 UCV 'LEO' Bridge Jo was grinding her teeth as she sat, staring at the readouts of the Vulture. The ship's status went from red to dark yellow, but was in the red again within minutes. As she watched, the other ship continued it's intercept course, and was nearly in teleportation range. "Time to intercept?" It had been the fifth time she asked. "Thirty seconds. They can begin teleportation nearly any second now. Unless something bad happens, they stand a good chance of making it out alive." "Any news from the Graph Spee?" "No, they're still cloaked. We haven't gotten so much as tail-smoke from them." [/rp]
  14. [rp] 19 May, 3008 UCV 'LEO' Medibay, deck 3 Jo Shtann was sitting on a bed while one of the standby meds placed a quick-cast on her broken hand. The LEO had been following the transport for nearly an hour, with no communication from either Caine, or the Graf Spee. Finally, she had to tear herself away from the bridge to relieve the pain that constantly throbbed up her arm. Naturally, Murphy was waiting for just such a moment to have the s**t hit the fan. The plastic cast was still hardening when a beep came from a nearby console. She casually reached over and turned it on. "What now Huber?" Jo recognised the stress on his face instantly. "It seems that the Vulture is in big trouble. They've just dumped their plasma, and are on the verge of structural collapse. To make matters worse, another ship has appeared on long range as well, it seems to be on intercept." "Right, I'm coming up." Jo mumbled a thanks to the Med officer, then made her way to the bridge. UCV 'LEO' Bridge Jo stepped out of the lift, and moved to look over Huber's shoulder. On the screen was displayed the Vulture, red patches superimposed over most of the ship's hull, with status readouts attached to each section. "Bring up the new arrival" The display blinked to a view of the McKendrick, as it sped towards the Vulture. "It's about 50/50 that they'll make it. Should we move in as well?" Jo was silent for several seconds before responding. "No." "But, Caine is over there." Huber looked aghast. "We can't jus-" "Yes we can, because we have no choice." Jo moved to the command chair, and sat down. Close to half distance, and be ready in case the newcomer doesn't make it on time. "Aye" the ensign plotted the new course, and the nightstar came to a stop just over 100 km's from the shattered transport.
  15. [rp] 19 May, 3008 Modified LRT-15 Transport SS Vulture Deck 2, aft section *Well this is just dandy. I get shanghied, my implant is damaged, the LEO is god knows where, I have a hell of a headache, and I'm being escorted by none other than Gallion himself while this junk ship is falling apart around us. Things couldn't possably get any worse.* Caine stumbled slightly, still dizzy from the shot to his head. Gallion easily caught him, and allowed the merc to steady himself before completing the journey to the aft section of the ship. As he walked in, he could see several other people milling about, with varying levels of stress marked across their faces. Among them, his CMO was working with Foss to get a couple of the injured settled. She looked up in time to see him enter. "Cane, get your but over here and give us a hand with these people!" SS Vulture, Engineering The engineers from the Leo quickly don their helmets, then go about their task trying to find any way possable to boost the containment fields. "I'm afraid we'll only be able to get you another minute at most, and that's only if we're lucky enough to pull off a power tap." a female voice came over the engineering comm. The team was trying to hardwire a bridge into the auxiliary power grid so it will feed the fields at the same time as main power, to try and strengthen them as much as possable. UCV LEO Bridge Jo had no difficulty making her decision, but waited for a full minute before responding, so she wouldn't seem too desperate. "I agree to your terms, Graf Spree. We'll follow the Vulture at the required distance." The LEO smoothly rotated, and took it's position just as the vulture powered it's engines. The Nightstar had little trouble following the damaged transport, but Jo's main concern was the ship following behind her, and her inability to raise Caine. It was going to be a long day. [/rp] My CMO was standing right beside Foss when she called to Caine [ 04-09-2001: Message edited by: Caine ]
  16. Sorry about that Liev, I don't know how I missed it. [rp] 12:08 SS Vulture Bridge The standoff between Caine and Gallion continued unchanged, and it was beginning to irk Caine. He had not even recieved a response to his questions after standing for several minutes. He took that time to digest his current situation. His ship was sitting at gunpoint, as was he. If it was just a one-on-one, he would have stood a slim chance. But having two people watching him, one with an automatic weapon (it is automatic, right?) made it impossable. As he considered though, it became less likely for the man to pull the trigger. If the shot went even slightly wide, Rattler could get caught by the fire, and it was assured that there would be several stray bullets to blow apart the few consoles that still worked. The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became, and he began to slowly move. The instant his right foot left the deck, Yost aimed the rifle directly at Caine's head, a little red dot landing right between his eyes. (Again, if it has a targeting laser. If not, I'll edit) Caine froze in position. "Look, I've been standing for a while now, and would app-" He was interrupted by the sound of a dull thunk behind him. His head jerked, and pain lanced through him as one of the four mercs that had been escorting him retracted the butt of his rifle. Caine's eyes glazed over, and he fell to the deck unconscious. A spot of blood appeared on the back of his head. The merc just shrugged innocently, the rifle in his left hand. 17. quote: I also have a prob with your sig. Just noticed it. It should closely match Zeke Stone's sig. Mercs are independent therefore do not have ranks. Your title is then commander. Also being independent you can't lead anything so you can't be a wing leader. What if he gave himself the title? After all, when he goes into combat, it's usually in his Interceptor, and when he is out there, he is commanding the other pilots under him on the Nightstar. As to being captain, I thought that would be the only designation he could logically have. A commander is involved with an army, and/or a military organization, while a Captain is the commanding officer of a ship, and not much more. While the second in command is usually called the XO (Executive officer) That is, unless we don't use a Navy ranking system, in which case, my bad . It's mainly that in most cases, (Except ST), the Navy system is often used, as is the fleet often referred to as a navy. If I'm wrong, I'm not going to suck vacuum over it, just let me know and I'll make whatever changes I need to. [This message has been edited by Caine (edited 03-29-2001).]
  18. [rp] SS Vulture Med-bay Just as Nova left the med-bay, he brushed past an obvious med, but he had never seen her before on the ship. She was followed by three men, all wearing gowns, and carrying equipment. They were escorted by two mercs, who stopped at the doorway, not wanting to see the carnage reaped on their comrads. She walked straight to the middle of the carnage, and took a second to absorb the situation. She looked to be in her early forties, and was accustomed to seeing this many wounded-being on a merc ship. She didn't even flinch at the sound of cracking ribs to one side as surgery began on a merc. "You," She points to one of the med's accompanying her. "Asist with the chest." A quick nod, and the officer moves in to lend a hand with the surgery, easily picking up what the wound was, and joining in. "You two, pick a body and get to work." As they move off, trying to figure out where to even start, she walks straight up to Foss, admiring his dedication to the patients as she took note of his own wounds. "I'm Cathy, mind if I join in?" Smiling, she hands Foss a tool before he has even time to realize he needs it. OOC: what can I say? She's a red-head, and an Aeries. 'nuff said IC: SS Vulture Just outside engineering The droid is almost to engineering, calmly pushing the laden cargo platform to it's destination. UCV LEO Bridge Jo Shtann was not enjoying her day, and it showed. She was trying to seem relaxed as she sat in her chair, her right hand throbbing as it rested on the broken armrest. * My hand's probably broken, I'll have it looked at later.* She looked at the wood-and-steel armrest, and noted the crack that ran through the polished wood rest, one of the supports bent out from the chair. 19. [rp] SS vulture Bridge Caine continued his dialogue uninterrupted. "As to any questions? I have two." "One, do you have a bay equipped to carry and charge an interceptor? Because I don't go _anywhere_ without my fighter." "Two, do I get paid on the onset, or after completion of the mission." ------------------ Kenneth Dominik Caine: Captain Interceptor wing leader Independant mercenary. 20. quote: Caine! Owwwwwwwww. ( I actually like the models, that hurt ) Plus Caine, once the PTA begins firing the cloak is effectively cancelled. I think you might have the wrong Caine, what do you mean by models? and yes, I know cloak doesn't work then, but it will still get you close enough to be able to hammer your opponent. After all, it isn't nice being slammed at point-blank range by surprise. If someone knew what he was doing, an ST ship could be disabled in a couple volleys. If worse came to worse, a few interceptors could be launched to help. (hmmm, multiple targets, plus missiles which shields aren't designed to block, combined with a s**t load of weapons-fire = a good time had by all.)
  21. Hmmm... quite the predicament indeed. But there is one small problem. Jo Shtann is still on the LEO. She had been communicating with Caine through an ear implant. I'll work with it though. [rp] SS Vulture Bridge Caine was pleased. "Surely 800 is a reasonable offer considering this ships current state of affairs." Smiling, he looked over the bridge while the man came up with a counter. As he did, his eyes fell on three men that were speaking quietly. *I'd better spring this, before I push too far.* Caine turned back towards Rattler, and interrupted his counter of 750. "I can see you are a smart guy, and I am aware of your current state, so I'm willing to cut a deal you might appreciate. You get the equipment at cost, and for the labor, we get 80 units of Radine, and a couple other elements, I'll have the specifics sent over." Caine flashes his best 'used car salesman' smile.('Cause hey!...It's you!) "My wife will do the number crunching and-+" The bridge went silent as the unmistakeable *click* of a safety being removed reached the ears of everyone there. Off to one side of the room, a man was holding a rifle at Caine. A second man immediately began spouting demands, and before his tirade concluded, Caine recieved a hasty message from Jo Shtann. "I think negotiations have gone sour, we have a guest." ---------- Nightstar Carrier LEO Bridge Huber called foreward, alarm etched in his voice. "We have company. Another ship has uncloaked and is powering up." Jo Shtann sat straight in her chair, and immediately sent a message to Caine. "I think negotiations have gone sour, we have a guest." The ship sent a curt message, demanding that the carrier stand down. "I know hon, there's a rifle pointed at me." "Shields!" Jo took a quick look at the small monitor on the left arm of her chair as it displayed a tactical representation of the other ship. "Back us off. Try to put the vulture between us and our friend." She looked to an officer just as she began punching commands. "Don't power up weapons, they have Caine." The count had reached 4. "Dammit!" Jo watched as the other ship matched the carriers maneuver. "Caine, tell me what's happening down there!" 3. "Caine!" There was no response. Infuriated, Jo glared at the screen. "IOD." Targeting displays and power readouts came to life. 2. "They've got us." Caine's voice flowed over the bridge, he sounded stone calm. 1. "Mercenary Carrier LEO to attacking vessel, we stand down." Jo turned to tac. "IOD offline." The woman manning the post stated matter-of-factly. Shields, however, remained up. Jo slammed the right armrest of her chair with her fist, sending a loud *Snap!* across the bridge. SS Vulrure Bridge Caine turned towards the operation's ringleader. "Well done. That was quick, efficient, and ruthless. I like that." Suddenly, Caines expression turned to stone, his eyes putting the meaning across for his next words. "That's why I won't kill you later." Caine looked towards Rattler, who seemed as surprised as everyone else at the situation, but he hid it remarkably. "As for being 'shanghied' as you put it, umm...no. Things just don't work that way my friend. I have made an offer for my aid, and it's more than fair. If further services are needed so badly, something can be worked out. We ARE mercs, after-all." [/rp] Ahhh yes, the fine art of negotiations. Demand a high price, then suddenly drop it to what you really want and it seems like a song. I love being a merc. ------------------ Kenneth Dominik Caine: Captain Interceptor wing leader Independant mercenary. "Knowledge dispells fear, and you know nothing of me." 22. [rp] 11:55 SS Vulture Finally, one of the mercs tapped another on the shoulder, then turned around and walked towards a terminal, where he opened a link with the bridge. "Rattler" The name made Caine stand again, and move towards the middle of the hall. "Our guest is getting a little antsy, and a second shuttle has docked with us." "It's the supplies you needed!" Caine called after the merc, surprising him. "He says it's the supplies you needed. Should we take him up to the bridge, or are you coming down any time soon." the merc was sounding annoyed. 23. [rp] 11:52 Modified transport 'SS Vulture' Caine has been leaning against the bulkhead for several minutes, one foot lifted against it as well, as he stared at the ceiling. The four engineers returned to the shuttle where they could be more comfortable, and waited. "Caine, the other shuttle has arrived." The human touches the jewel, and acknowleges the message, just as a similar one is sent to the mercs still guarding Caine. "Do you even have a Captain on this tug-boat?" The human's patience was wearing thin. "Or was he killed in the attack." The rhetorical question got a response out of the mercs, telling him what he needed to know. Their CO was either badly injured, or dead. "You have a chain of command here, right? Call up whoever is in charge, and tell him that the supplies he has requested are here, and to get his-+" His tirade is cut short, as he forgot to close the channel between himself and his wife. "Caine!! We don't need your temper interfearing with our PR." Dominik took a few calming breaths, closed the channel, and continued in a more civil tone. "to join me down here, or have me brought to him, so we can discuss how I and my crew can be of further service." [/rp] On the second shuttle is enough to bring the vulture to 85 or 95%, depending on the ingenuity of the engineers. (Mine and yours) There were also another four engineers on board, and two medical assistants, and the LEO's chief med officer, a red-head in her mid forties, with a mean stubborn streak, and skill to match.(A phd that went military after her schooling.) ------------------ Kenneth Dominik Caine: Captain Interceptor wing leader Independant mercenary. 24. I agree. Especially if the right tactics were used. After all, the battlecruisers do have an effective cloak, and would be hard to detect unless their arrival was already known. Besides, who would suspect that a clunky, boxy, primitive-looking ship would be a threat?? (Until it was too late anyways...)
