  1. quote:1) I notice that in the power area of the logistics computer I am able to vary the power to the engines and the solar reactor by units of 1 (although both seem to default to 5). Does raising these have any effect? Is it at all worthwhile to put both (or either) at 10? They supposedly use up more radine if at a higher power level. Haven't taken the time to test this, though. Some artifacts like the HSD need the engine at full power. I like to default my engine and solar reactor at 1 when I'm not doing anything rather important, to conserve resources. quote:2)While studying the appendix to choose which ship type I would like to command (for now), I noticed that there are different shield and hull values given for each. One carrier may have a shield value of 1500, while another (the Megaron I think) has a value of 3500. My question is, is this shield strength a proportional increase, or just the base value given Spectrum/A shields? If I were to upgrade two ships of differing starting shield values to Linear Spec IV shields (the same upgrade), would the shield strengths between the ships increase proportionally, linearly, or would they be equal? The appendix states that the shield upgrades offer higher protection, so I assume that the advantage is not solely the consumption of less plutonim (if indeed it they do consume less), but also a higher degree of protection (say from 1500 to 1750 or something). To illustrate my example, say I start with a Battlecruiser Mk III (1500 shield value) and a Megaron (3500 shield value). If I upgraded them both to Linear Spec IV shields, would the Megaron always have a shield value 2000 higher, or would it be more or less? Also, what happens if I installed the artifact shield on both ships? The appendix says that it gives 5000 units of protection, so I assume that in this case both the Megaron and Battlecruiser would have equal strength shields, irregardless of what the starting shield values were. I'm not sure. I'd say the same thing as your first example, but the artifact info seems to throw that all off balance. I think I'll have to test this out later. (Sorry if I'm not helping.... ) quote:3)I have noticed that when I dock at a starbase (say GalcomHQ) for repairs, sometimes my repairs will be suspended before they are finished. Sometimes, if I reassign engineers they will continue working and fix the system (this happens after they have already used the required parts, so I know it isn't their refusal to pay for spares). Also, I have noticed that sometimes repairs stop at 99% and will not go any further no matter how many engineers are assigned to the task. Is this normal? (and as a final last minute add on to this question, I have had systems repaired to 100% that where still colored brown and listed as 'suspended'. Assigning station or my own ship engineers would not alleviate this.) a: Don't know what you mean. b: Yes.... I guess. C: I've had that same problem. Just overlook it. quote:4) And finally (whew!), I know that I can command my shuttles to jump into another sector (from earth to mars for example). What I can't seem to figure out how to do (or if I can do it at all), is to access the tacops computer for a sector that my AE is not in. For example, I would be interested in seeing if I could launch a shuttle from Earth, order it to jump to the Mars sector, and then order it to deploy a drone on Mars or one of it's moons and return to my command craft, all without my CC (with my AE on board) ever leaving the earth sector. You can't. Even if you had a probe there so you could see that region (as said above), it is impossible to observe planets/moons in areas you're not in. It's something that IIRC, SC did in one of the patches.

When you hover your finger over the controls of the microwave in work and await the tool tip to appear to tell you what each button does. Yep, same here. *Stands, pointing at PS2, waiting for tooltips to appear*

  4. Learn how to do it without AP. Go into tacops. Make a waypoint where you want to go planet-side. Go back to the bridge view, and target the planet. Hit shift-9 and enter the planet. You'll be right where the waypoint was. Then just target the starbase and dock with it like a space station. [ 01-02-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  5. Yeah, see you later, man. Enjoy yourself over there. I know I would.
  6. 1. You cannot view planets in zones you are not in. 2. Nope. (Not to my knowledge. IIRC, they are un-towable. Correct me if I'm wrong.) 3. Quick Save just saves the thing where you go into Resume. You should do a full save if you plan on playing a different profile. Quick Save is a good defense against CTD's, though. To reload a quick save, click resume--it only works when you haven't played since you saved it. IIRC, hitting exit game automatically does a quick save on the way out. 4. To make your CC autopilot to a station, target it and hit Shift-9. You may enter hyperspace, but that's good. After hitting Shift-9, turn on the AP. When you get close enough to the station, manually fly there, and when you're .5 clicks from it, hit alt-d. That's the basic method of doing it. 5. First-Person items are only used for trade items for profit, if you're playing as a commander. There is no way to change marine and alter-ego FP loadouts. 6. Easy one. I've experienced this a lot... Answer? It's the carrier cloaking system. Try towing a cruiser as a bounty. They won't disappear. [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

  8. Yeah, try taking off the 0 from all the single-digit ones, SC. See if that works. [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  9. quote:Originally posted by Oban: I cant seem to view them all in my profile update, some are just blank boxes. Same thing on my end. Also, since SC said that there were supposed to be 83 or so avatars displayed, I decided not to speak up about it. I think he's already aware of this. But when he works out the kinks, everything will be all good.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: *sigh* I thought I could get rid of it... That was one thing I liked with those forums... no little annoying image... will there be a way to get rid of the avatar? Or enter a custom url for a av? BTW I noticed each time I go and modify my profile I must re-enter my CD-key... is it normal? #1: Wait until SC replies to my thing above about making the default avatar blank. Or another idea is to set an avatar, "none", which would be a blank one, if SC wants to keep the smurfs as the norm. #2: On other UBB forums, you upload your pics to the acutal server. SC doesn't have a lot of space & bandwith to spare..... You can't manually change the URL, either. #3: Don't put your CD-Key in your forum profile. The field shouldn't be there anymore, because anyone who looks at your profile can get your CD key--and that's not a good thing. Fendi and I exchanged a few PMs a while back, and IIRC, SC deleteted all of the CD-Key things in forum profiles to protect against that security risk.
  11. Ahhh. Wishful thinking. But that would be funny indeed.... [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  12. Perhaps you could change the default to a small transparent gif file. (I'm guessing this because blank.gif probably means a blank gif file.......) Browsing the forums and seeing tons of smurfs is pretty amusing, but.... I think it's best to make it optional. Only IMO, of course. [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  13. LOL! You made the default pic a smurf.... I'll find some images from some other UBB boards that I like and I'll make a list here later. [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  14. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: LMAO!!! you whore, you beat me to it. Anyway, glad to have you and the rest of the crew around Nova. 2002 is goin to be a landmark year for the BC series. Just wait. 1: 2: Hell yea! Here's what's on the expected slate for the year: GBS II System BCM - Multiplayer Patch BCXP 1&2 Hehe, this year is gonna r0x0r!
  15. Yep I noticed it when I got onto the forums. Um, the blank.gif image for those who don't have an avatar isn't working. And how do you set a custom avatar? Anyway, thanks for the cool updates, boss. (Edit--Oooh, cool. Just trying on a few avatars.... ) [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  16. Um, you're supposed to log into the RegDB (login here), and then hit "View Public Profile", and copy the address from the address bar, and put it in where you have the word "pasted" in your link. Not literally the word pasted. You're supposed to put the pasted address there. Hope that clears it up.
  17. BC In the New Year; A Tribute (or Commemoration?) to the Community and The New Year (and my 1000th post ) Yeah.... Um.. So this is supposed to be a speech of some sort, right? Something to bring in the year with a bang (At least in the Central Time Zone (GMT -6).) Post 1000, at midnight, to ring in the new year. How good can it get? (Or how bad? ) Yep. It looks like Im setting myself up for a fall here, since its about 24 min until midnight here, and my hands are too shaky since Ive had too much to eat/drink. (Soda, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, etc.) Now lets get on topic. Ill start with a little personal background of my starts in this community. Yep"When the Newbie Welcome Wagon Was a Newbie." Okay. I started to lurk these forums back in late January. I was searching for a nice space cap ship sim or submarine sim to play, and I found BC. I got the demo of BC3k from one of those custom demo disks that you can order. (Mine was from Happy Puppy. They still probably have it for download. *grin* Yep, that's how I discovered BC, if you're wondering. A little puppy showed me the way.) Anyway, I liked what I saw in the community, and joined in March. Ill skip most of the details, but I was a horribly clueless newbie. Had 2 or more usernames on the boards. Got one of them banned. Dont even remember that/those usernames anymore. *lol* Changed from Mercenary to Police, shaped up, joined Orion Fleet. Helped newbies, and Blades called me Newbie Welcome Wagon. It was just a side thing, but eventually it became an official thing. That, I didnt expect. But this community needed someone like that to help cater to the poor guys, and fate had it that it would be me. Enough of the personal history of me on the community. In this past year, weve had our ups (BCM Demos, BCM in development, BCM getting released, and finally the new community hub being in dev), our downs (the warez incidents, the recent escapades with the future of the community), and our down times. (There were those weeks where it felt that no one was around) Well, multiplayer is coming out this year, so it looks all up. Weve also got our XP releases, as well. Hm I forsee lots of excitement coming up. If multiplayers everything it should be, then one day, we may have those huge fleet battles we always dreamed about in RP. MP is the one thing that Im personally looking forward to next year though. I think with MP, the future of the game will be sealed, and any current fans will be hooked for BCO. Trust me on this one. The XP things are going to be nice, especially since our wishlists are actually coming into fruitition. The community is really gonna rock in a few months. Starstation Centron is under construction, and well-it's simply gonna rock. I'm gonna be one of the news crew, too, so tune in, alright? Yeah, Ive got to hurry up. Im still writing this and theres only 3 min left until new year..... Lets wrap this up. w00t to the New Year--let BC Live on. BC3k 1.0, 2.0, BCM, and beyond. Let BC reign. Weve come far, the series has come at least 1 decade in the making, and the community is going great. Derek knows what he's doing. Had he not, then BC wouldn't exist in this day and age. It would have died back before BCM. The community is great. Centron is on its way, we already have our new forums in place. Let this new year prove we're stronger than the detractors (like the VE fanboys) think. Like (I think, Riga?) said once, Keep the Faith. Let's make this a good year. Keep it chuggin'. Happy New Year. Nova, over and out. (Wow, I got it exactly at midnight (central)!!! Oh and I almost forgot to brag (like everyone else does )--Post 1000 f00z!!! Hah!) (Some editing done to increase the content...... ) [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  18. Yeah. Let's make this a good one. Before we know it, we'll have multiplayer..... Just thinking about it puts me at the edge of my seat... Happy New Year. Nova, over and out. Long live BC! (And the SC. ) (The 1000 post count-down so becomes 1.) [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  19. I pointed out to him it should have been "take off every zig", in some other thread. (The 1000 post counter shrinks to 2..... Must resist urge to do it until 2002 Central Time.....)
  20. Funny, I didn't even intend to make that post in the new year. I wrote it up, forgot about it, and was chatting with you and Eagle on IRC, and posted it right after we all said Happy New Year, Epsilon..... And I posted at 00:01. You had a 1 min window of opportunity. (And I'm 3 'til post 1000! But I was supposed to post 1000 before new year... Ah well, w00t anyways again. ) (Alright. Now I've got 1 post till 1000. I'm going to write up a soapbox style thing (sorta a speech), and post it close to midnight, central time, which is where I live. Topic will be "BC In The New Year (And Beyond"). Tune in to the BCM General Discussions Forum. I'm ending my year with a bang. Nova, over and out.) Here it is: BC In The New Year [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  21. PS First post of the new year!!! (on 3000ad forums) BCM Game Builder System->Playmod cheat utility released w00t!!! *grin* forgive the spamming----i've already had too much to drink, and the year's not around for another 53 min here....... (now that i look back on the post, it looks like the first post of the year is horribly off topic..... lol, w00t for me anyways.) [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  22. whooooo!!!!! East Coast US! New York! [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  23. Hm.... T-Shirts... Have you ever thought of selling 3000ad logo or BCM logo wear stuff, like at CafePress? I know I'd buy one. And a 3000ad hat, too! (Yep I love fan merchandise.... Take this great (l33t ) Mega Tokyo shirt....) Blame the medpacks; i've been going off topic all day. (Am I the first post of the new year?)(YES!!!!!!! Bow before me & ph33r m3!!!!!!!!!) 24. quote:Originally posted by Steve Schacher: Mine's the same as last year... ...resolve to stop posting after midnight! I'm sure that Derek would agree with that. That's impossible to me (when i'm off school)!!! So that's why that's not my resolution. [ 12-31-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  25. PS - And about your sig. quote:"Launch all Zig! For great justice." Actually, it's "Take off every 'zig'!!". Infact, here's the last 4 lines of the Zero Wing intro, better known as "all your base". quote:Captain: Take off every 'zig' !! Captain: You know what you doing. Captain: Move 'zig'. Captain: For great justice. (I'll quit going off topic, now. ) [ 12-31-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
