Sounds like your Op System and your Modem are competing for the same resources and Memory Allocation Addresses Carlton. Did you do a Windows update AFTER you installed that Modem? I bet ya did! Wife gave me grief for over 3 weeks with the same kind of problem. She kept installing McAfee Online then doing windows updates. Windows updates kept wanting and taking memory addresses that McAfee had claimed. They fought continuously too! Finaly, I convinced her to do it my way first. Trust Microsoft first, then do McAfee install, been roses ever since! How you're going to solve the USB issue, I don't know. Let's call these Rules of The Road for now: 1) Fleet Commanders are supposed to be one of the most knowledgeable of the game up here. How can the Newbie know who they are if they don't put it in their signatures? 2) Common courtesy and decency have always been the trademark of a sound leader and good follower. What ever happened to those traits? 3) I thought personal slogans were done away with quite a while ago? Fleet Slogans are still what I would expect to see. Maybe I missed something while I was away? 4) Admins aren't supposed to have to be reminded to keep a topic on subject. 5) A little light hearted banter is not always bad. Just keep it light, and don't forget those close at hand if you do venture out and throw down the gauntlet. Keeps me from elevated blood pressure unnecessarily. 6) You don't have to like "Uncle Rattler" and you don't even have to always respect him, but it will pay dividends in the long run to sometimes listen to what he has to say. I'll tell you guys about computer troubles when I get mine back from the shop and find out what I've actually lost. Currently mine's at the manufacturer of said machine being completely rebuilt. Smoke is a very bad thing to see rolling out of a computer chassis. I post this from my wife's machine in eager anticipation of the soon return of my own little joy giver. Should be sometime this week. I've been told that the HD and Video card were still good, 3.5 floppy was still good and the CD Rom was good, but my CDRW, MOBO, and Ram were Toast! They replaced those and formatted the HD, Loaded Win98SE, and all appear normal.
