  1. Jaguar... oooo... that was supposed to be an awesome platform. Was it?
  2. Ok, here's the skinny from someone with hands on experience: If you're just gaming, doing office stuff, and/or some light art work (3d, web, photoshop, etc.) save your money and go with the AthlonXP. Get a 333mhz DDR board if you can find one (sis is a good chipset but better are in the works). If you're doing 3D work, pluggin heave graphics work, and still want to game then go with the P4... however, don't go below the p4 2ghz. it's the new socket so you're assured of being able to upgrade for at least another 3 months (hehe). Make sure you're getting one of the new mobo's that use DDR ram instead of RDR ram... they're FAR Faster with the p4 cpu. If you can't afford that, the xp1900 will do just fine and you really won't notice the difference (we're all asleep during renders anyway... well, at least i am). Now, if you're looking to do professional 3d or video post work but can't afford a multi-processor machine then don't go for anything but the p4 with the new socket design (478 i think). However, and here is where things change a bit..., the athlon mp's are the sweet point between power and price. A dual AthlonMP system won't cost you your soul and can crunch through renders quite nicely. Not to mention really give you some boost with games that designed to use multiple proc's. If you've got money to blow though, my dream machine consists of dual p4xeons at 2ghz and a wildcat 3d card and comes in at the low low price of $10k. The real question really is what are you doing and how much money do you have to spend. Then the decision is quite easy. Just find what gives you the best bang for the buck realizing that either the AthlonXP/MP or the P4 will give you great results. Just be sure to go with DDR ram on either single cpu system. As for heat... the cpu doesn't explode. An Athlon 1.4 OC'd to 1.7 oozes a black substance that is nearly impossible to clean off. The cpu is dead. The newer P4's have a steal heat spreader so they live a bit longer... but not that much. Be sure to get a proggy like Motherboard Monitor that has an alarm or autoshutdown function should your fan fail or the temp gets too high (Athlon's are rated to be stable in the high 100's... scary to let them get there though ). So, go figure out where your money vs. power sweet spot is. Buy, and don't every look back. Well, you can look back after 8 months. By then computers may be completely different and a new version of Windows will be released !

Man, .gif's are old school guys. Learn how to create vector based art. Start using flash. Few peeps don't have the pluggin. It's hella fast and hella small. And you can do SO much more... Sorry, I don't have anything I can show you... yet
  4. FPS increases will be negligeable if at all. Fps increase can only really be seen by upgrading 1st your CPU and 2nd your vid card. For instance, with a geforce 2 card an increase in cpu will bennifit you fps more. However, if your mobo will only allow up to 850mhz (like an Abit be-6ii) then the cheap cpu (around 100) and an upgrade to a gf3 ti200 or if you can afford it ti500 will yeild the best results. However, don't be fooled into thinking a gf2mx with 64mb of ram is better than the same card with 32mb. There's not enough bandwidth on the card for the extra 32mb's to make any difference. it's just a sale point. that comes direct from nvidia before you decide to argue the fact. My mantra, when building/upgrading machines: 256mb of Ram is the bare min. If you're just gaming or doing office work, don't bother with the upgrade past that point. However, if you're upgrading to winXP; doing 3d or video post work; or just a nut about filling every available slot then be sure and get as much as you can afford. However, in any system, once you hit 512mb of ram, the upgrade in CPU/Graphics Card/IDE bus are far better performance upgrades. Hope this helps to confuse the issue... er, clear up the issue (hehe)
  5. Andergum! Hey, man, long time no see Lost track during the betatesting and thought you'd gone the same way as Rattler Good to know you're still in the shadows too
  6. Hehe, yeah, Sho, I'm still here. But, hey, who said leadership wasn't here? Hell, Chav's been around as well as Mike! Don't forget, Sho, YOU are a leader as well. You got an entire fleet at your command All fleet leaders are in control of their fleets and ultimately the direction Insurgent Military forces take. Granted, she's my baby, but she's got to walk on her own some time I'm just a lowly War Minister. I push small models around on a giant map of the galaxy Would be nice to sneak around with Bishamon on one or two missions, but that's something for later
  7. Just finished the series a couple of nights ago. This is some powerful stuff. If you liked Pvt. Ryan, Band of Brothers is for you. However, it is uber-real in some episodes (the medic episode and the attack on bastogne episode) and heart renching in others. If it comes out on DVD, get it.
  8. Aahh, new windows. Wait, is this windows or Linux... no, it looks more like OSX... oh, wait, OSX is Unix/Linux... so windows is trying to be like Unix? oh... wait, aahh, there it is <5 minutes pass> Whew, that answers that. It crashed for no good reason. Well, I was making a strange face and fondling my mouse. But, that confirms it. It's really Windows Man, that was close. Right up until it crashed, I was sure I had a MAC or at the least a penguin. Oh well, insert cd --> boot from cd --> a: --> fdisk --> format c: --> setup.exe --> Aaaah, win2k and all's ok. Why I tried to upgrade from a rock stable OS, I'll never understand
  9. Hehe... sorry guys, my real life has been VERY busy for a while. I've actually had a few thoughts about recreating the old insurgency web site, but have had little time to put any action to the plans. If you have any ideas or want to take over the project, I'm more than open for ideas. Drop me an email or find me on ICQ. I've got vacation coming in the middle of December, so I'll probably whip something together then... unless you have an idea Gallion? I'm sorry I'm not around as much as I used to be. Full time job and Full time course load But, I am lurking like the biggest shadow you've ever seen. So, don't think I'm gone just yet
  10. yep that's right, he's completely justified in removing the poster. it's his right in this country to act any way he pleases. however, if one is unable to stand with their country during these times, then the person needs to seriously consider finding a new home nation. second, folks, we are not at war with 'islam'. we are at war with terrorists. turn off your tv. think about what's happened. stop repeating what you're hearing on terrorist tv or from liberal media. otherwise, i'll have to think of you as no better than the uneducated masses that are easily swayed by those claiming that America is attacking islam. anyone with an education and lacking an axe to grind knows that this has been a LONG time coming. the u.n. (united nincompoops) has been the #1 reason this war on ter's is so long in coming. personally, i'd be more than happy if the world were to become really big again. hard to cross boarders; restrictive customs (legal, not cultural) etc. superpowers that had the balls to be superpowers and do what's necessary. and an end to this one world government/ globalization movement crap. i may be an earthling and a human, but as far as i'm concerned, i am an American. being American is better than belonging to ANY other nation in the world. i've been there, and it's okay to visit. but i know that America IS better. it always has been, and always will be. the moment i feel otherwise will be the momemnt i die or leave. anyone in America that feels otherwise needs to heed the call, much like american germans in WWII, and return to where they think is better.
  11. It only takes a moment to look at the crime rates in countries that have adopted no civi firearms laws and see that crime rates have either not changed or have gone on the rise since the law was passed (this includes armed crimes). Just look at Australia and the UK. I'm sorry folks, but it's not a utopia out there. Only law abiding citizens abide by the law. However, thanks to LAW, John Q. Public is required to be a victim. That's right. Without the right of bearing/ownin arms you are no longer a contributing citizen. You are, in fact, a victim in waiting. The strong prey on the weak. It's the way life works on this planet. No matter how many laws pass; no matter how many peace treaties are signed; no matter how nice it looks in your bubble; someone is going to be victimized. Now, let's look at who bennifits from the popluce being canned victim. 1. Terrorists. Obvious. If your target can't defend itself, you go after it. 2. Criminals. Much like t's look for the same mrks. Everything looks for the path of least resistance. No criminal is going to attempt something against an armed target. Too much work and too many liberals that make easier targets. 3. Governments. It's far easier to convince a victim that a new law/bill should be put into effect. A person that is allowed to make decissions for his self or her self is not as likely to give up their rights. So, how do individual law abiding citizens bennifit from gun laws? They don't. Every bleeding heart femi-Nazi liberal would love for you to think that stronger gun control would've prevented Columbine. Those that agree are sheep. They listen/watch/read the news and appreciate being spoon fed sound-bytes that make it easy to form an opinion. However, I find it extremely hard to believe that a thinking reasoning human capable of forming his or her own opinion would see that a few words on a piece of paper backed by a reaction only enforcement policy would ever stop a criminal from abusing a law abiding citizen. Those that do are no better than the osterich hiding its head in the sand thinking: I can't see it, so the danger must not be there. Yep, I said Liberal. As much as I agree that Liberals are just as entitled to their opinion, I also know at the core of me that liberals are spineless followers uncapable of seeing truths beyond the lies. Why make your own decisions when you can look all whitty and wise by spouting the same mindless drivel that Senator Idiot spews out of his mouth. The liberal movement is not one of freedom and democracy. At every turn, Liberals are doing everything humanly possible to control the lives of everyday citizens. A case in point, outside of gun control, is the legislation being pushed through the house and senate that would make it law for manufacturers to include hardware control of your abillity to create mp3's from cd's. All computers and basically ANY device deemed to be capable of transporting/transmitting/transcoding digitial media (of any kind, not just mp3) will be required to have a security chip that will block the use of said materials. So, you like your life. You like being able to place your 250 cd library as high quality mp3's on your new hard drive based automobile mp3 player. You abide by laws. You don't pirate software. You don't give away your mp3's on p to p nets. Heh, soon you will not be able to do anything but play those cd's. And guess what: It won't make a bit of difference to those that do pirate materials for profit. We humans are an amazing species. We adapt. We find ways to get around problems. Liberals, on the other hand would love to be able to control your inginuity. Big Brother did not fade away with the passing of the '80s. He's here. He's stronger than you can imagine. He's already watching, listening, and recording everything you do. So, you don't like what happened at Columbine. Fine. I don't either. However, I don't blame the gun. I blame the children that pulled the triggers. I blame the pawn shop that sold the weapons to an obvious minor. Most of all, though, I blame liberals who have created an America full of people unable/unwilling to take responsibillity for their lives; their actions; and their homes. I for one, would be far happier if Everyone had a side arm attached to their belt and in the open for all to see. Then, you'd see crime drop as all but the insane would realize that crime=death. Do I think Lib's shouldn't have a forum for their opinions? No, but it should be limited to the state of Oregon.
  12. UHH... have you bothered to check your swap file (virtual mem) size. Unless you set it otherwise, it's dynamic and will grow and contract as the need arises. Even as much as the total of the free space on the HD.
  13. BUFF... ahhh, they look real cool up close. Especially in flight when you can watch the engine nacelles oscillate. That bird is so ugly, it's real pretty. Too bad they got rid of the human part of the tail gun
  14. Silk, it's highly unlikely that we would ever use nukes on the area for one major reason: We'd miss Osama, and he'd just use it to confirm that we were actually looking to whipe out islam. We don't need to fuel Osama's propoganda war. He's doing just fine by himself. Will we see pictures of dead children from conventional attacks. Yep. Just like the PLO used with Israel recently. Gallion, what are you refering to: 27 years of war...?
  15. Epsilon. You can't have AE's in two areas of the same race. At least that's what it seemed DS meant. You can't be Terran/GALCOM and Terran/Raider. You could be Syrion/Raider though
  16. Real Simple. Follow the chain of command. If you've already been as detailed with your manager, and his/her boss, then take it to the GM or whoever is above the ones you've already spoken with. More likely than not, they neck-ties have no idea what's going on. And, since things don't roll up hill, will think things are fine, cuz employee quibles are taken care of by the lower mgmt. But, heck, you have nothing to lose, so make them aware. At the least, your managers are sorely amiss in their jobs. At the worst, they are merely towing the company line by denying raises. Your options are really quite simple: 1. Talk to the BIG BOSS. 2. Stop doing so much work. Only do what's required of you and when they ask what's been happening, just point to the others and tell them that you just don't have the time to do your job and theirs. 3. Quit and leave. Nothing will be resolved. They'll never know why and someone making more than you will take your position. If it were me, I'd talk to the Gen.Mgr. or the highest person not spoken to yet and get the situation on record. Next, I'd stop being so gung-ho. I'd start doing ONLY what was required and when they notice the difference be VERY OPEN and FRANK about why. Then, after a month, if I hadn't been fired yet I'd talk to the General Manager one more time. Courteously explain what's been happening again and then explain that anyone can do what I've been doing for the last month, but few people work as hard as I did before this started. I like the company; I want to stay here; I prefere to go the extra mile; and I'm ONLY asking for a fair shake. If the GM doesn't do something about it in the next few days, then start talking to EB and make sure you let ALL the customers know why your leaving. Hell, things get done when customers start to react. Or, if you don't like the place, just leave. If they don't understand what employee retention does to keep businesses working smoothly, then they don't deserve your time. It is YOUR time. Don't ever forget that. Stress only hurts you and helps them, so worrying is of no use. Decide on a course of action and stick to your guns. In the current economy, training new hires is a HUGE drain on cashflow. Sometimes, the upstairs idiots need to be reminded of the fact. Good luck.
  17. Heh, if you've got access to the Sci-Fi channel, they're re-airing all of the Farscape Eps to date... every day IMHO it's the best sci-fi show out there right now. Sadly the season doesn't begin anew 'til next year... snif... snif...
  18. Man, most of the time I jump on the "MS sucks" bandwagon. But, hey! I've beat the crap out of my Sidewinder 3D stick. It's the original released many years ago. I bought it after my WingMan' fire trigger took a dive (I loved that stick ). When I mean abused, I am heavy handed and have yet to break the bastard. I think it's the one MS Hardware item that was made with qaulity in mind, cuz God knows the newer ones suck
  19. The Nost. prophecy you posted is a fake. The scripture is part of the Old Testament as found in the King James translation (The first translation into the English language). However, you MUST read the entire book. The two verses are poigant but severly out of context. It's only a 3 ch. book. A very short read, but very dark. I suggest reading it for yourself.
  20. Insurgents, it is my honor to extend to Commodore ShoHashi the position of Bishamon's Fleet Commander and the upgrade in rank to Rear Admiral commensurate with his new duties. ShoHashi has shown amazing loyalty to his fleet; initiative; and the skills necessary to take on the darker side of our business. Good luck in your new job, Sho. And congratulations [ 09-11-2001: Message edited by: Akira ]
  21. hehe, that reminds me of the Monty Python movie "Holy Grail" or something like that... Man, that was the funniest scene with the holy hand grenade, et al.
  22. I was wondering who was still alive
  23. Aahh, the elusive Gunny Diamond... hehe, I love that character, he's soo cool
  24. Ouch, sorry fellas. I've been distracted by life as of late. I've been keeping tabs, just not on an every day basis. Been away from my computer for the last 2 weeks with only 56k access in the boonies testing my patience and winning Sho, It's your fleet. For now. Use the "Interim" in you sig. In 30 days, having not heard from Rattler or JB or some other viable reason, you will have the job perm. However, it's not a job any sane person would want... so don't consider it a promotion, but rather a better seat in hell But, you're there already, you should know this, hehe. Not to mention, you'll be in charge of parts of my toy factory. I do love my toys
