  1. Stone, you've already got a thread devoted to your idea. Please continue the discussion there.
  2. Thanks Gordan for that insightful post. Please allow me to make a couple of points: If Derek Smart claims to have the Copyright on "Galactic Command" or "GALCOM" (a term you also use), then I'm sure he has the Copyright. For instance, all sights referencing BC3000:AD material are required to include copyright info on the same site: quote:┬®Battlecruiser 3000AD, Battlecruiser 3020AD, Galactic Command, GALCOM, Xtreme Carnage, characters in the game are the copyright property of 3000AD, Inc. All rights reserved Now, add that to the fact that there is not, nor has there EVER been, a GALCOM or Galactic Command referenced or existing in the Star Trek universe. That means you had to find that term somewhere. Combine that with Hamblin's admittance to the site's creator KNOWING that the term came from this GAME/SITE, it is clear that ANDY should at least have gotten permission before STEALING the term. Youth does not mean you have permission to do whatever you whant with other's ideas. I strongly suggest that ANDY use a little imagination and come up with a new idea for your fleet. As I'm sure you'll find (providing you don't make changes) Derek Smart is VERY protective of his product. Perhaps next time you or your friends will atempt to do the right thing and ASK FOR PERMISSION before using something that is not yours to use. If you think that you have the right to use copyrighted material, I suggest you start a X-files site, or use beeny-babies as your group's name. You will soon find letters from attournies in your mailbox; and, more likely than not, your ISP will terminate your account. Again, I for one appreciate your comments. They reassure me that the future of this country will be controlled by Socialist Democrats intent on making everything free to everyone AAAAHHHH, the future is SO Bright, i've just gotta wear shades! P.S., these comments are my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions or policies of this site's owner or that of 3000AD, Inc. Have a nice day ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. 3. Here's a pretty good review over at Anandtech. Basically, the card is the king of the hill in 32bpp mode. Read the review, it's pretty good. ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. Akira Spectre ICV-Nevermore Official Tester Battlecruiser Series
  4. thanatos, outside of what Gallion put forth above, all I can do is share my experience with ISDN, albeit from 3 years ago. I too had a dual 128Kb account. But notice the spelling: Kb = Kilo bits; KB = Kilo Bytes. They are two VERY different beasts. With my dual, i typically saw 11 or 12 KB throughput and on good days 15KB. It was extremely expensive. At the time, I was paying 15 times more than regular 56Kb modem for only 3 times real world bandwidth increase. That's only the top layer. There was the cost of equipment to the phone company; the cost of new line install; And the cost of the ISP's service. In all, like yourself, when something went wrong I had at least two different companies to contact and sometimes 3 (if it was the ISDN hardware). All that money and all that confusion was bunk. Although, when the service was working, it was the fastest I could afford (T1 line was $2000/month). Then Microsoft did something wonderful: MultilinkPPP. I slapped two cheap 56Kb modems into a Cyrix box running NT 4.x; found and ISP that allowed me dual logins; and I added a third phone line (then got rid of the second line to make for two real phone lines, not just one with a digital splitter). I dropped ISDN like a stupid step-child and found that the dual modem not only cost me ONLY $40/month (ISP and extra phone line) but gave me the SAME performance. On average, I was seeing 11 or 12KB throughput The moral of the story is: ISDN is still too expensive. Find yourself a good local ISP that will allow multiple logins per account and get thyself TWO modems! Now that I'm on cable, though, I don't have to deal with any of that. MS bandwidth speed tests are off the charts and usually register 500.1 K Bytes/sec or higher. Very few servers push that kind of bandwidth, so I usually see anywhere from 30KB - 300KB download. I think the upload max is 80KB but i might be wrong on that one. Anyway, it means pings in the 20-100 range depending and NO perceivable lag in FPS's And the icing on the cake is that i'm still spending that same $40/month. Check with your telco or local ISP for DSL avail. if not cable. Even my cousins in BF Oklahoma will have Cable connections within the month I still want my own T-3 line though. Would make hosting BCM servers that much better ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. 6. I could swear I posted a diatribe here last night... oh well, here's the short version: Plausible Deniability Nothing produced is hard evidence short of a real alien floating in its UFO long enough for everyone to drive by and see it for themselves. ------------------ Flt. 9. You know what Pavel, your parents should be grounded. If they can't/don't/won't take the time to find out what kind of games you're playing and then determine ahead of time what is allowed and what is not allowed, then they are to blame. I don't mean to make this a personal statement against YOUR parents Pavel. However, it's a growing issue throughout Canada and the US. Parents are not taking time to take care of their children! Government notices this for whatever reason (kids cause havok, etc.). Instead of puting blame squarely on PARENTS (mainly because their parents too and no one wants to accept responsibillity these days) govt. types determine that it is necessary for BIG BROTHER to step in and "protect the children". Sorry folks, but it's plain and simple: CHILDREN ARE A PRODUCT OF THE ENVIRONMENT PARENTS PROVIDE or DON'T PROVIDE. That means, if the parents aren't overtly PROACTIVE in raising their children, then one or more of the following happen: 1. The children raise themsleves based on childlike morality and sense of community. 2. The educational system takes care of the children and are unable to legally impart ANY sense of morality. 3. Govt. passes laws that affect adults only (unsupervised children rarely give a rats arse about the law. see EastCoast/WestCoast gangsta thugs if you want proof) 4. Govt. takes care of the children and instill its own twisted sense of right and wrong based on whatever group is better at lobbying or has more money to throw at lawmakders. The fact is, if you want to be a PARENT then, damnit, realize that you will have to make sacrifices for your child's and society's good. Take responsibillity for what you produced! Work out your differences before divorce becomes and issue and show your children by examply what it means to be a MAN or a Woman. But I'm just ranting. Society today will never make the sacrifice. Yuppies are too busy worrying about the BMW. Perhaps things will change when their generation finally passes the torch to the generations that have had to give up their futures to clean up their mess. ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. 10. hehe, welcome back Echo. Good to know you're still around
  11. [rp] Yep, I offered. Just like I make the offer to ALL high ranking officials. It's only good policy to try and gain the allegiance of your enemy's best. But, it's obvious that you don't understand the concept. In turn, that means my high opinion of you was unwaranted. Stay where you are Tringad. You're of more use to us on the other side . Oh, and Rattler doesn't need to watch his six. I'm there watching it for him. The moment anyone tries anything as stupid as sneaking up on Insurgent One, they'll find the Nevermore decloaking at point blank. Not to mention those watching my six. See ya soon, Tringad. Doubt you'll see me, though [/rp] ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. Akira Spectre ICV-Nevermore Official Tester Battlecruiser Series
  12. Smith, pics are allowed. You must first have the picture on a server hooked to the web. Then simply include the url between tags. 13. Hehe, Whisper you crack me up all the time: quote:Hyperjump drives make it quick and simple to almost instanly form a tight, organized formation. You do that and I'll sit back and laugh even harder as you all exit on top of each other. Formation flying is an art unto itself and between RL players requires a large amount of coordination. Be sure and let me know when you're about to start. I'll just pick you off during the confusion As for tactics, don't worry about giving away the farm. There is nothing that you will do that will be effective past the first time. Humans are better than most AI/NPC's. They learn (usually ) from mistakes and can easily copy what they see! YOu guys keep practicing that formation flying, though. It'll make it easier for everyone else to line you up for strafing runs ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. 15. joey, the Discovery Channel had a documentary on that subject. Go to their site and search for "Little Brother". They're about as reliable as you're going to get aside from getting your hands on sensitive data most local governments would rather you not know about. Also, check out the UK. It's common practice (in London at least) to place cameras at every street corner and their police like to talk about it... Anyway, that's what I remember on the subject. Logan, good luck. Considering that there isn't much experience with low/zero g combat, you're most likely to find information in sci-fi novells. However, if you do stumble across anything, let me know [This message has been edited by Akira (edited 07-13-2000).]
  16. Klisis, welcome to the community. To answer your questions... 1. In BC:M you will be able to choose from different ship types with the only limiting factors being the StarStation you start from and its available craft. You will not be able to "Purchase" craft. In the BC universe, unless you're a successful trader, you would not be able to afford a new cruiser. Govt. provides, you control. This is not Privateer. 2. You have Fleet Command and Control while Karl is on your ship. As for future titles, I suggest you spend some time reading the posts in the Development forum. 3. In the current game, you are already allied based on what path you choose. Those alliances stem from the work of larger organizations. You are not on your own. The closest you'll get to this is choosing mercenary, trader, raider, etc. when playing BC:M. You choose who you are friendly with. You also choose to be a target for everyone, if they so choose. 4. NO. Train the ones you've got. 5. Fighters are specific to your ship type. Again, this is not every other game in the space sim genre. 6. The feature set for BC:M is closed unless Derek Smart requests otherwise. Either way, you'll need to read up on everything in the Development forum. Now, get back you your BC and practice, or you'll find yourself spending more time waiting at the StarStation during MP ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. 18. Akuma, I disagree with Rattler (but not on what Insurgents are...). You should make them Insurgents. Your perception of the identity of the men doesn't necessarily make it fact. Your character may have seen Insurgents when in reality they were agents of EarthCOM. It's natural for large corrupt organizations to utilize terror in order to produce public sympathy Just some fodder for thought. ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. 19. HEHE, I laugh outloud whenever I hear "paperless office". It will never happen. A. Humans enjoy/need something to hold onto. B. Electronic transfers are trackable and open those on both ends to many legal and not so legal problems because ANYTHING electronic can be copied and routed somewhere else. C. There is NO encryption scheme in the world that can't and hasn't been cracked... This e-signature crap is just more legilation by politicians on the hill that just want to look good to their consituents. The only problem is that neither the politicians signing the laws; nor the people clamoring for more protection know ANYTHING about techonology or how it works. They are the same people that are scared to death when someone says the words "virus", "hacker", "crash", etc. The same people that are scared into purchasing e-commerce crap from IBM because they run a commercial about tech guys waking up CEO's at 4 a.m. to report the "SERVER" has crashed and they've lost a lot of business... Basically folks, it's more paranoia legislating that, given a little more time, will soon be ammending your constitutional freedoms. So, enjoy your rights now. Soon, even things like freedom of speech will only apply to journalists and only if the censors approve. ------------------ Flt. Cmdr. Akira Spectre ICV-Nevermore Official Tester Battlecruiser Series
