  1. word to the wise... ....latest patch=more gooder for you....always
  2. Have you seen Galaxy Quest? Therein lies the reason for Kendrick taking one for the team first.... He doesnt have a last name Maybe the SC should give him a red uniform for good measure
  3. heh....I did beam Karl Reines into the middle of a hostile base in the one of the ACM missions. I told him not to mess up my guest quarters. But no...he just wouldnt listen..... (ps sadly the enemy refused to believe the the leader of GALCOM was running around their base occassionally firing off a pistol round. If only I had an OTS missile in the tube at the time....)
  4. Roaming Space Brothel - SC, can we have this in XP1. Can we? CAN WE?? j/k I think it was a pretty decent review. It pretty much said to me that BCM isnt for Joe Casual, and well....it aint!
  5. ok....saves are now gone for good. Too bad - I was quite pleased with my crew. Even Resnig had stopped chewing on his Galcom neck pin...... [ 01-10-2002: Message edited by: Guardian452 ]
  6. Nova, twas me that was confused. I meant to address Gallion in that post. Oops
  7. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Nova: No. (Or at least I doubt it over 90%.) The digital signature check for save files was added after RC1. My RC1 save games do work, but who knows what naughtiness they might invoke down the track. edit: I just noticed that SC wrote "save game are unaffected", but I'm not sure if that was directed at my Q or info on the patch script update. 8. Addendum: I do have the background chatter after all. Thing is, to actually be even vaguely aware of it, I have to have the volume up so loud that other sound FX damn near bust my eardrums. btw, I play with music off(just in case you thought it may have been the music drowning out the chatter)
  9. Still, I gotta respect his desire to nuke a broad selection targets "Cmdr, troops are prepped for planetfall ops. Shall I give the deploy order" "Huh what? Nah.....just nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure......"
  10. SC, I know the patch deletes saved games, but does it mean that 1.0.0.4 RC1 saves are incompatible with 1.0.0.4 Final? (I backed up my saves in case I could use them) Thanks
  11. You're gonna bonk your head against a table when you hear this..... ......the 01.05.02 is the patch release date.
  12. Nova, In the Appendix I noticed that the pitch for the STS Firestar is 10. Is this missing a 0?
  13. Hmmm....I've just noticed that I'm not getting the background chatter either. Looking into it....
  14. "There are a couple files sitting around my BCM directory: 0000049.016 and 00000409.256, which are 151kb and 302kb respectibly." They seem to be a result of patching BCM. Same on my system. "Was Running these TSRs: ICQ, GetRight, Windows Messenger, and Norton Antivirus (enabled). I had tried terminating these before in order to try and salvage an already once restored save game that wasn't working, but no luck." Betcha I already know the answer to this. DO NOT RUN THEM
  15. HOOOHAAA! I knew that O was in there somewhere....it just wouldnt seem right to me no matter where I put it!!
  16. "He who can destroy a thing can control a thing" Love the handle
  17. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: As for virtual memory. Do NOT mess with it unless you know what you're doing it!!! My advice is to let the OS handle it. BCM requires an insane amount of memory and especially under win2K and winXP, you do NOT want to mess with the VMM because if BCM chews up all the memory, regardless of VMM, the OS can and will croak. [ 01-05-2002: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] Okiliy dokily....loosely define "insane amount of memory" for us. I'm still learning the ropes somewhat regarding 2K. And as far as I can see, it does not let the OS handle the VMM size as Win9X does - you have to set the limits yourself. Previously, I've had the pagefile set at a constant size of 384 MB on my 256 MB RAM system. Very recently I changed the maximum size of the pagefile to 512 MB and have not experienced one of the CTD's I was getting as yet.
  18. wundebar! top stuff fellas!! ps OMFG.....I cannot believe I spelled missile as missle so many times in one post. I must be getting old..... ps....I dont even know if it's spelled or spelt!! That's it......I AM old!!!
  19. Do the various types of missles (especially STS or ATA) have varying performance/maneuverability characteristics in BCM? The way it is at the moment, I cannot really tell which type of missle is more suitable for FC to FC combat. ie I've listed STS missles as follows Anti-Fighter (lower damage) LR CTL Starflash LR CTL Starseeker MR CTL Analog General Purpose (medium damage) LR ATL Starchild MR ATL Firestar MR ATL/V Questor SR ATL/V Pereus Heavy Hitters (higher damage) SR ATL/V Vagrant SR ATL/V Ralix Given the appendix info, I cannot tell if any of these missles are more/less maneuverable, ergo perhaps more likely to hit a fast moving FC, than any other. Thanks
  20. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: I can't fix what I can't reproduce. Get it? Oh yeah....I get it alright. Consoles 1 - PC's of varying types 0 I posted the message more as a heads up to 2K/XP users who hadnt noticed similar problems from other 2K/XP users. BTW SC.....what installs of 2K/XP are you using? Pro? And what service packs? Thanks again. And remember...I'm just trying to help in whatever roundabout way.
  21. CTD's and invalid/corrupted RESUME files So far the following people have reported very similar problems within this thread Geldonyetich - WinXP Exazoid - Win2K Snark - WinXP Nimbus - Win2K Church - Win2K Thor Dazen - WinXP Guardian452 - Win2K Problems reported Persistant CTD's after a playin a while Freezes Invalid/corrupt RESUME saves I examined all these guys hardware profiles to see if there was any hardware similarities, but XP/2K is the only constant. I was on the threshhold of sending in my save file where I would CTD every time within minutes after loading, but I accidently and foolishly deleted the game ( tried delete one of the 9 saves within a profile in game...but *poof* the entire profile did go). And I too have experienced the invalid/corrupt save occassionally, also only when trying to RESUME (not RESTORE). I've got a strong feeling these problems will manifest themselves again with my current game, and this time I'll be sure to submit the saves. SC, I know you have a great love of wild goose chases, and this/these post(s) isnt evidence enough for you to look into it. But I think users of 2K/XP should be aware of this....maybe it will help pinpoint a problem if there is one. Thanks
  22. You can hyper through planets, as in hyperspace nothing is real (or so I've read...Stephen Hawking is getting back to me on that one ). See ealier posts on this thread re: hypering to hostiles inside planets.
  23. quote:Originally posted by insecttoid3: at least you didnt choose this avatar for the default SC: [ 01-02-2002: Message edited by: insecttoid3 ] hmmm....I wonder if it would go out with me....
  24. ah...I stand corrected. In regards to #3, I now believe the SC has implemented some kind of advanced Trade Union code into the game which causes our surly systems engineers to take smoke breaks, have stop work meetings, and knock off work early.
  25. quote:quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry, I probably should have been a bit clearer. I meant that NPC ships were hyperspacing inside of planets and *dropping out of hyperspace* inside of the planets, and flying around inside of them. If that's not a bug, either most planets are hollow of the NPC ships have some neat planet-tunneling technology I'd like installed on my CC. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Its not possible because they use the same rules of planetfall as you do. If they end up inside the planetary sphere instead of entering it, it is due to the relaxed rules for NPCs. If you ever see this happen (it should be rare), I'd like a saved game of it. If an NPC intends to enter a planet, it will jump to it. NPCs never enter a planet accidentally unless they intend to. And if they accidentally enter the planetary sphere, they should immediately correct their position and exit it, since they know they are inside it. This happens if you are dogfighting near a planet, too close to a station etc. This happened to me also when hyperspacing to a hostile. Caused me to planetfall to Jupiter, which proved to be a unhealthy thing for my CC. Stupid crushing violent Jovian atmosphere (or rather stupid me for not egressing right away) . If I see it again I'll get a save to you SC. Still looking into my CTD problem from earlier.
