  1. Okay the Supreme Commander has mentioned many times that he's seen the AIs do things that he never expected them to do. And yes i'm hoping he'll find the time to share his stories but I was hoping to hear from everyone else here about some of their experiences in dealing with the AIs in the sim. This is meant to be a serious discussion really so you can create a story around your experiences just make sure that the things the AI did are true so no Roswell stuff please. THE AI INTRUDER: In a previous topic I had mentioned that I thought the AIs were beaming items off of my ship because power is always cut from both my launch bays and my transporters as a precaution. As it turned out some of the items were recovered as they were in the shuttles that the AI intruders' had tried to commandeer. These rowdies were dropped off at the nearest starbase. All of them were low on the mental scare as their AI numbers suggested.(The highest member was an 8) So their game was mainly a grab and dash with a little bit of shooting when cornered. Not much of a challenge for my marines who were listed at high as 45. But there are are others out there who are a bit smarter. Just what are their abilities? What can they do and how well? Would it be more dangerous to have 10 AIs rated at 8 running around the ship or 2 AIs rated at 65? Better yet if these two were captured would they be able to escape? What's the highest level Intruder you've had aboard ship, the hishest level you've captured, and just how much damage did they cause? After my experience with these dim-witted thieves I soon found out that is a good chance that I may have been visited my a much smarter version later on or a very small bug. After another attempt to steal my wares was dashed I had everything inventoried and put back where it belonged. The report came back stating that two artifacts were still missing. After a ship wide search from bow to stern it was determined that the items were no longer aboard the ship. Score one for the bad guys. No shuttles launched, no transporters aboard used. You tell me what happened. Anyway such is life when dealing with Artificials. Anyway please post your storied here. This discussion isn't limited to Intruders you can speak of AI Commanders, pilots or any AI you've experienced in battle or otherwise as well. Nick "Paradox" Parker
  2. Commander Jamont, I see your point but as the player if your ship is crippled there's really no way for you to get to a starbase especially if your comms are out. So you're just sitting there waiting for eveyone to die from radiation poisoning. Epsilon 5. The reason for the slower recharge could be a balancing manuever if what you are saying about AI and ship systems are true. You got to try and even something out I guess. Like okay say you are the player and as such all your systems are modeled but the AIs have a basic set up which says that they don't suffer until the armor drops to 5%. So maybe to even things out the player will have a higher recharge rate for their shields to balance things out. Seems fair right? Honestly I'd like to see the AIs performnce dropping off at say 75%. Our shields tend to drop pretty quickly when you've got fighters with such high refire rates and power output doggin' ya. I mean we do start seeing damage at an armor level still at 97% and that seems like way off to me. Things start getting scary when you're down to 85-80%. Before you ask no I don't suck but I wanted to test and see what kind of damage these things could take under really bad circumstances. I think setting the AIs Armor/Damage setting to say 75% would be kewl causing a loss of damage points to their 4 primary systems and slowing them down to model said damage and then having them think about possibly falling back for repairs anywhere from 60-25% instead of the negative numbers after the armor is completely destroyed. I mean that's the only time they disengage is after the armor's gone and yet for the player we're starting to think about it at 85-75%! I've been dead in space with an armor level of 60% before and what's really funny is then enemy actually disengaged. Little bastards probably laughed and said, "He's out of the fight. Best to just let them all die slow and cold." Embarassing! Maybe the old man could create a Mod for that. Doh! I just called him the old man! Geez I need to stop watching those old Patton movies. HA HA HA HA HA! I could see the SC now visiting me in the hospital and one second pinning a medal on my shirt for valor under fire and the next slapping me ultra hard in the head because he heard that someone in his command referred to him as the Old Man! HA HA HA HA HA! Anyway how about it SC? How about a Mod to really even things up out there? I'd love to leave those AI bastards' wrecked and smoldering hulks floating in the deep black like they did me that time. VENGENCE WILL BE MINE! Oh yes it will be mine. Nick "Paradox" Parker
  3. Okay it looks like whatever the problem was it has been saved in my save files though I have no clue as to what caused the corruption in the first place. I had this problem once before. From what I've seen the save files listed below maintain the same size no matter what you are doing or where you have been. Player.mig 833 Player0.sg0 1393 Player0.sgd 1393 But before my deadly CTD I did another save and the files looked as follows: Player.mig 954 Player0.sg0 1528 Player0.sgd 1528 Now maybe I'm wrong and something is going on out there that I have yet to see but the last time I had a CTD like this these files were about the same size as listed. I don't know maybe the galaxy exploded and I just happen to be at the center of it so I never got to see that bright flash of light before the darkness. But as I said before this was 5 days into ROAM. I was lucky enough to have a good back-up copy of my Day 5 save files available so I'm checking to see if this happens again in a few hours or not. "Paradox"
  4. Okay forgive me but it's late, I'm tired and any second now drunk yahoos are going to come beating on my door screaming Merry Christmas so if this was already answered I'm too lazy to read through all 250 posts. Anyway is anyone having a problem where after about 5 days into the ROAM game you get a sudden CTD? I thought that maybe it's because I'm using version 1.0.0.2 saves with a version 1.0.0.3 patch but I've seen this kind of thing before and was wondering if anyone has seen this and has a solution? I'd be very happy not to have to start all over with a new Campaign for a 3rd time. I get no crashlog whatsoever the game just starts whacking on the HD for about one second and then CTD which in lamer's terms means Kiss My Arse pathetic human! It must be the new cruelty the systems are enforcing upon me. What happened to the days when I was Master over the machines? Damn that Skynet! Anyway anyone seeing this as well? and is there a work around or something? Nick "Paradox" Parker
  5. Just how are AI carrier and cruisers modeled in the sim when it comes to them taking damage. I noticed that you usually have to bring their armnor levels down to 5% before they reach for the SOS handle and just a little lower before they are disabled. But when compared to my ship things start to get painful when my armor levels drop to just 95%Hey at 65% my ship is listing out of control and I can't get anything back online to save my life which bring me to another question. If your systems are destroyed at just 65% damage to the armor and you can't communicate with your systems engineers because the logistics computer is down, how do you get them to repair your ship at times like this? I mean the enemy can get down below 5% and still seem to get it's engines back online to try and make an escape but at 65% my ship's crew is lucky if they can have enough crawl space to huddle together. HA HA HA! Do the AI crews act on their own when communications and access around the ship are disrupted? Any takers on this one? I'm so into finding out how these AIs think I'm not sure what's more fun, the combat or waiting to see what my guys do next. Anyway can anyone tell me if the player's ship is modeled differently and if so how much? And also how repairs are made for a ship so crippled that it's computers are down. Nick "Paradox" Parker
  6. Yes it would be a dream come true. But creating levels to construct a whole starship? That's alot of work no matter what size the ship is. It would be awesome though. Especially walking throughout the ship and seeing the medics and marines searching the ships areas. Picture walking around just as your ship takes damage, and then seeing the systems engineers running toward the problem area. The whole ship could be alive with activity. Man dare to dream eh? Oh but you wouldn't want to be there when there's a hull breach in a certain area. Then you'd have to model people being sucked out into space. "Paradox"
  7. Now that I think about it who in there right mind would want the job or creating and rendering the interior of an of those large ships in the sim? Oh and forget about an ornital or planetary starbase. How or better yet where in the world would you start, at the turbolifts? It created a nightmare just thinking about it. Supposedly they did it whith that Voyager game that was created but I seriously doubt they were able to model the whole ship or even half of it for that matter. Does anyone know otherwise? Nick "Paradox" Parker
  8. Stop an imagine if the interior of all ships were fully rendered and you could walk and turboshaft your way throughout the ship. Then imagine you are on search duty for intruders when you observe four of the little bastards hauling off your equipment and trying to place it inside a shuttle. Just then you yell for them to halt and they drop everything and reach for the sky. You then start to approach and the other four you don't see jump out from cover and open fire. You're caught in the middle of a firefight because you weren't smart enough to ask the CO how many guys you were looking for in the first place. Man that would be the life. Yes it's true that death would probably come rather quickly afterwards, but it would be a kewl mistake to fall into nonetheless. HA HA HA HA HA! "Paradox"
  9. SC, Letting intruders take crew members hostage is like way too kewl. You've got to keep it in the game. Hell I don't know of another game that has such a feature. In fact it would be kewl if we could have our own Marines do the same. Say our guys should beam over to an enemy cruiser and snatch up their TO, Commander or Other thus causing the performance of that ship or even Starbase to drop considerably. Even better would be to make it possible to beam to specific sections of the ship to carry out hit and run attacks or to take crew members hostage. "Paradox"
  10. Interesting analysis and conclusion Mr. Killzone. I will take your information and investigate this further. Was this something you duplicated recently or just a somewhat educated guess? "Paradox"
  11. Hey Tac, You sound like that guy on those Earthlink commercials. "If you like that you'll love these, UNLISTED!" Man whoever thought that commercial up must have gotten a huge bonus! HA HA HA HA HA! "Paradox"
  12. Hey SC, just off the top of your head what would you say is the average AI level of the NPC commanders and core crews aboard ships? I remember reading somewhere that the ships that jump in system while cloaked are supposed to be pretty high but just how high are we talking here? Nick "Paradox" Parker
  13. Okay I understand about the shuttle situation but I always make it a point to shut down the flight deck and transporters when they aren't in use and I'm quite sure that power was disabled before that cruiser jumped in system. Yes it's possible that they jumped in cloaked and beamed the stuff off before my TO was able to detect their presense But I juat have to know what happened. There's nothing more embarrassing than coming back to port and hearing over the PA, "And pulling into port behind our heros is Cmdr. Nick "Paradox" Parker and crew back from their most embarrassing mission yet. As you recall Cmdr Parker had 75% of his ship's support items stolen while he and his crew were in a heightened state of alert. If you look very closely along the hull you can even see where each of the raiders signed their names in very large and bright hot pink colored letters!" Oh and SC, I understand what you're saying about having to write out all the information on the AIs abilites. But what am I to do the next time when I get back to my dorm room and both my systems and my DVD player are gone and I'm left with nothing but my bed, TV, and a note from the Terran Insurgents that reads, "Hey Dox, thanks for the systems and DVD player. We left the TV as a Christmas gift so you didn't think we were too heartless. Oh and speaking of hearts we have your girlfriend too. If you happen to get a new one let us know, you've got great taste! Merry Christmas and hope you have a better New Year! Signed, The Bad Guys p.s. Don't look under the bed. Whatever you have living under there doesn't like guests." Surely you see the potential for serious problems here right? Then again I could always remember to shut off the game when I leave and tell the GF not to hangout in my room until I get back. But that would take alot of effort and I'm one career slacker when the winter months come around. HA HA HA HA HA! Nick "Paradox" Parker
  14. Okay here's the situation. I'm in ROAM mode and I purchase items I believe i'm going to need when my research engineer's AI levels are finally high enough to come into play. An enemy Battlecruiser enters the area and engages me and then beams intruders aboard which of course sends my marines into action. Just the my RE's AI hits 50 and I wait for the call that she's going to start configuring the Celestrial Orb. There is no such call. As I check my cargo I see that I'm left with only two special items and I freak. "Where the frick are my goods damnit!" As my temp rises my shields drop into the red and I suddenly remember I have to deal with that cruiser. So I engage and destroy the pest who drops his cargo pod. As I have a shuttle pick up the pod guess what I find in the pod? The 3 or 4 special items I was missing as well as a number of spare parts that I'm sure were taken from my ship as well. Talk about scandalous! So like I didn't see anything like this in the manual so I have to ask. Were my items beamed off my ship and if so can I do that to the enemy as well? Oh and before you ask I had power to the launch bay and the transporters cut off so I know it wasn't an inside job. Anyone care to enlighten me on just what happened and how I was bamboozeled? I mean like seriously. Outside of my initial annoyed tone I thought it was kinda kewl. Nick "Paradox" Parker
