  1. quote:Originally posted by Ben Zwycky: Would it be overly cynical of me to suggest there is too much hype and too little substance to these claims? No, because its true, there is far too little substance to these claims. At this point, its just non-believers trying to make themselves feel special because they don't believe. Personally I wish people would just get over themselves.
  2. quote:Originally posted by Wolferz: Simple, they located a single strand of hair from the buried ruins of a manger in Bethlhem. Yeah, really scientific too! I mean, of course we all know that DNA lasts forever, right? Sigh, mtDNA isn't even that reliable... and even so, whats to say the Jesus didn't have a family. There's no where in the bible that it doesn't say that, and Theologists have said for a long while that it was completely possible Jesus had married Mary. Its also been debated for a long while whether or not Jesus' body itself ascended to heaven or if it was just his spirit, as the word the bible uses for body in Hebrew can be defined either way, but leans closer to body. Personally, I think this all might be a hoax, and in the event that it isn't, fine, someone found the empty shell of Jesus Christ. Can we get on to the important issues like actually WALKING and PRACTICING his teachings and get over this prideful bickering?
  3. There have been a lot of great RTS games over the few years. Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, Battle for Middle Earth 2, Medieval 2 (although thats a TBS /RTS Hybrid), and Supreme Commander and Command & Conquer 3 are coming out soon. The best RTS out at the moment, and most likely for the near future is Company of Heroes, but Dawn of War is just behind that.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Yes, unfortunately all this means that the only way you are going to get to play GALCOM-ES and any future games in the PC series which are released through GameTap, is through their service. Does this include ALL future PC games or just the GALCOM series?
  5. My availability is around 3 AM GMT on Sunday evenings so I'm gonna have to sit out of Fleet Action. Sorry guys.
  6. The Performance RAID 0 may give you slightly more performance, but it really won't be killer. If the single SATA 320GB is cheaper go with it.
  7. Core 2 Duo is developed by Intel if you're worried about brand names. The Core and Core 2 lines are replacing the Netburst powered Pentium 4's very quickly, with amazing success. Vista is 32 bit or 64 bit. To be honest, going 64 bit isn't advisable. Even with Vista, 64 bit drivers are harder to find, and you don't actually get 64 bit performance unless the application you're running is compiled for 64 bit. Unless you're running servers, there's absolutely no reason you'll need 64 bit at this time or the near future (or, in Windows-land, the distant future either... MS isn't exactly grasping onto this 64 bit idea). You'll find Dell carrying computers with the Core 2 Duo these days. However, if you're going to buy a prebuilt, I'd recommend HP. Dell's support has gone down the shitter these past few years; it took us 3 months with an enterprise contract at work to convince them we had serious problems with motherboards dying at my workplace. Our contract is running out this year and we've already decided that if we go Windows again (although it looks like we might be going Apple) we're going with HP.
  8. What's your budget? You really can't beat the price for performance with the Core 2 Duo E6300 or the E6400. All of the equally performing AMD processors just can't beat the C2D series when it comes to price. They're fast, dual core, and 64 bit. For $222.00 you can get a CPU that easily beats or matches the $579.00 FX-62. It easily blows the AMD 64 line away. Right now AMD isn't the way to go if you want performance. I went AMD last generation because they were actually better, but Intel knocked AMD off that stool when they released Core 2 last summer. I've got very good experiences with Nvidia. I'm curious as to what compatibility issues Greyfox is talking about? I've personally had no problems with any of my Nvidia cards, although I skipped the Geforce FX days because they were crap.
  9. Makes me pissy I just bought a new Samsung PDA Phone a few months ago. (one that hates my Mac.. which is my primary machine now since its my dev machine) Fricking beautiful though, and I love what Kurtz over at pvp did. http://www.pvponline.com/
  10. But thats where parenting comes in. I think most parents, if they knew what their kids were playing, would tell their kids to stop. My parents never allowed me to play Doom until I was 11... I couldn't even play Mortal Kombat until I was 11. There are PLENTY of kid safe games out there; I played Railroad Tycoon, Sim City, and other games until I was 11. There were even some action games... I remember playing GODS until I had to go to sleep on the Amiga... I believe I was actually 9 at the time. My parents played EVERY game I ever touched until I was 11, and that includes Mario, Sonic, even MS Flight Simulator. A 9 year old playing GTA isn't proof of a society of killers... its proof of a society of baby factories rather than parents.
  11. Call me a skeptic, but this seems like it could be an attempt by Microsoft to finally put the axe in free online gaming. What's your view on this SC? I've heard no points of views from any developers yet.
  12. quote:THE FALLOUT BRAND IS ONE OF THE MOST RECOGNIZED GAMING BRAND BY CONSUMERS.CAPSLOCK! CRUISE CONTROL FOR AWESOME! Interplay made some magnificent games, but I don't see how an MMO is going to get them out of the hole. Isn't a little risky to go into the MMO business with no other money being thrown your way right now because of World of Warcraft and other well seated franchises?
  13. quote:Originally posted by Cruis. In: www.direct2drive.com its there too. Nah, I'm just gonna wait. I've bought stuff from D2D before and didn't quite like the service.
  14. Well, I'm definitely fitting into the trekkie thing. Doesn't matter though, they were out of stock.
  15. I'm gonna go see if its at my local store and pick it up tonight if it is. I'll let you guys know how it is.
  16. Best part... You're single, you don't have a girlfriend, and you don't watch Star Trek. Good Lord.
  17. quote:Originally posted by Kalshion: Debris falling off ships? That's something I've always wanted to see in a game (believe it or not) the closest game that has that damage model is Sword of the Stars, and even then it's very small.I think Klingon Academy had debris that fell off of ships. Not much, just like a warp nacelle if the engines were badly damaged and stuff such as that. For the time I guess that game was pretty advanced though.
  18. That is a sad one. I really wish publishers would start actually advertising adventure games that come out. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I don't believe that adventure games are dead yet, and I think if developers and publishers would take the time to make good storylines and put some actual quality into it, we'd see some decent games out in every genre. Its the old addage of software design. Time, Cost, Quality, pick two. Its about time publishers stopped picking time and cost and started worrying a little about quality. Maybe then so many old dogs of the industry wouldn't be leaving with sad faces.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: ... COCKPITS!!!!!!! ... Damnit SC! Now I've got to eat ramen for a few weeks so my college budget will be able to afford this! I haven't been this excited about a classic style space shooter in a long time.
  20. Rock on; disappointed that we can't command it, but still looks absolutely awesome. Glad to hear BCNG is still in production. Since I don't have a 360 I've been anxiously waiting more news on that for a while. I'll have to get a 360 for Knightblade.
  21. w00t!!!!!! Can't wait to learn more on Monday SC. I really like the design of the Engstrom class. Is there any possibility we'll see it again in either UCO or the next Battlecruiser game. (Although I now notice that there isn't a forum for the BC game you were using the Reality engine for. Did you dump that project and I just missed it?)
  22. quote:Originally posted by Wolferz: It's just another C&C knockoff.I take it you never played Total Annihilation?
  23. Its marketing speak, I'd ignore it and wait for the real gameplay reviews to come out. I've bought both of Bethesda's other Trek games they've released (Tactical Assault for the DS and Encounters for the PS2) and while they're both a bit arcady, they're some of the better Trek games I've played in a very LONG while. This is a good start for repairing the damage that Activision did to the Trek franchise. While it may not be perfect from what the box sounds like, it can't be worse than Armada 2 or Bridge Commander.
  24. quote:Originally posted by Cruis. In: why are ya'll saying that? its obvious. thats the only way to report in isnt it? Yeah, but years of reporting to duty in a thread have ingrained the process in our head. We fail at breaking old habits.
