The reason I ask is because I had a IRQ sharing conflict when I first built mine, and I simply moved the soundcard to a different slot, and the problems vanished. Lets just do a process of elimination.

  3. I love to try and understand the gaming industry better, kind of like the way people who are into movies watch Entertainment tonight. Would you take offense by my asking what forces determine decisions about release to other platforms? Personally, I`m happy playing BCM on my PC, but I would love for my son to be able to play it on his X Box, thats why I asked.
  4. You must be a mindreader, popups have been driving me crasy lately! Thanks man.
  5. Just wondering if there has ever been any talk of porting BCM to X BOX, or any console for that matter?
  6. quote:Originally posted by Lathe1: I have been using fat32 on my hard drive. I was wondering can i still play Battlecrusier Millennium, if i convert my hard drive to ntfs? Yes, you can use NTFS. I recently wiped this HDD I`m using now from Win ME (Fat32), and put Win XP on it (NTFS). The game ran on both file systems fine (as stated on the box). GL.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: In fact, speaking of coincidence. Mindspring (my backup ISP I've had since 1992) now owned by Earthlink, just had DSL in my area. I configured it this weekend, got it up and running (I opted for the self-install because I CAN'T stand strangers screwing around with my gear) and first thing I did this morning was call up AT&T and terminated the cable service. I LOVED having to make that phone call. . Damn right! Before I got midspring I went through a dozen ISP`s - ATT, and Bell Atl taking the prize for horrible service. When I got Mindspring I was in 7th heaven, in fact when cable came to my area, and I cancelled Mindspring, I felt like I was leaving a family friend! Thier support is absolutely first rate. (I got good speeds too for 56k). I have Optimum Online now, and they are rated #1 I hear for cable so I have the luck of the Irish I guess.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Meldan: I have read and done everything in the FAQ (atleast twice) that would be applicable to my system. I have downloaded and reinstalled directx8.1, Windows Media Player 7.1, all sound and video drivers, VIA 4in1 drivers, motherboard BIOS, reinstalled Win98SE, everything remotely mentioned in the FAQ. Not to mention uninstall and reinstall BCM and reinstall BCM patches 22 times (there were times before that I didn't keep track of). Sorry to cut in here but I notice you have a Via chipset. They are notorious for thier instability. When I built this PC (also with Via chipset) I was pulling my hair out. You have to load the correct drivers, in the correct order. This forum really helped me, check it out: Helpfull Via support forum Hope this helps.
  9. Got it. Thanks for the tips guys!
  10. quote:Originally posted by Tyrn: Unload the shuttle that collected the cargo. The items are then distributed to the proper cargo bay/weapons pod. OK, just crown me the Newb King and get it overwith... heres the new sitch... I destroyed an enemy ship and saw a cargo pod floating... I used SMD to view pod contents, and noticed several things I know I do not have onboard (i.e Leather). I dispatched SC1 to Cargosweep said pod. SC1 reported "Cargo retrieved", and I ordered SC1 to RTB. Upon notification SC1 has docked, I checked Logistix --> Cargo ---> CC & SC1. No Leather or any other observed Pod Manifest in either craft. I decide to land on a moon to get rest and find to my dismay the moon is not pleasant, take damage ,leave, and I find a friendly Earthcom Station, I dock, and am told I am in violation with Illegal contriband. So, obviously the shuttle got the pod back to my CC, I`m just not looking in the right place. You may be pleased to know I am in fact, not retarded.
  11. I think the sense of smell will change the gaming industry with digital scent devices (Gunpoweder, burning rubber etc...) Digital Scent Devices

  13. quote:Originally posted by Emmett.hendrick: I am going to throw my hat into the arena here(and hopefully not loose an arm in the process). I feel that a game does not have to have the latest cutting edge graphics to succeed like Valmorgan I have a few games of note that have remained on my hard disk and I keep returning to The Xcom/UFO series (up to Apocolypse(?) still can take over weeks of my life)... I have a large collection of games I have been collecting for years I love the underdogs as they have loads of games that I have fond memories of from my youth and the reason I love them is for Gameplay plain and simple... [ 01-04-2002: Message edited by: Emmett.hendrick ] OMG! Yes! X-com was great! Your right though, That series lost me at Apocolypse. Speaking of Underdogs... I found an alltime favorite called Twilight 2000 there about a year ago. I used to play it on a 33 Mhz!! (hehe). It ran fine under DOS, anyway I see some parallels Between it and BCM, especially the way you can equip and loadout ad infinitum. The one thing (about Twilight2K) that stands out, and I would LOVE to see in BCM is the Career system. Basically, you begin each troop (you had 20) after he graduates HS, and you choose his career path (college, tech school, Military,OCS, crime ETC). Each phase carries a random roll to increase different stats/skills, after each phase war may or may not break out and that is the point that character enters the game. This system is repeated for each troop you have, so, for BCM you would do that for every crewmember - tailored for the game of course, and within its scope. Believe me the system was absolutely awesome, and every character emerged differently - with unique traits and personality. Sorry to stray off topic here... just daydreaming! 14. quote:Originally posted by canusa: I remember when BC3k v 2.0x came out. Great gameplay with decent, but dated graphics (I had a particular peeve with the white line at the horizon separating the sky from the ground). Other games had better graphics, but it was BC3k that stayed on my hard drive (until BCM came out)... Bottom line: One year from now, BCM will still be on my hard drive, but those other games probably won't be. I feel much the same way, while the graphics cannot be as abysmal or non existant as a text mud (hehe), something like 70%-30% is fine. Games that have left the most lasting impression on me , and continue to have my support every new release of the genre are The Civ Series, Silent Service/Hunter series, and and the Ultima Series (Specifically UO). These are must have resident games on every HDD I have. And none can be said to be graphics wonders. Its gameplay and sufficient graphics that make a game a legend or another (overly large and expensively packaged) dust collector. The one game that kept my interest longest was Ultima Online - 4 years! And the only thing that pushed me away was lack of support - something I can see BCM HAS in abundance. So in short, heavy on gameplay, adequate on graphics with maybe a persistant (mmorpg/sim) universe (which is where BCM is heading if I`m not mistaken) is the winning formula. Good Job SC!
  15. Thanks, I had not yet discovered the virtues of the manifest display before I got a booby trapped one. Lesson learned. However, when collecting a pod that shows various contents, and none of said contents are already on my CC, I still find difficulty locating them after they have been collected (cargoswept) and the shuttle has returned to the CC. Again, my apologies for a query that must seem lame in the extreme for some.
  16. If any of you are old Stratics peeps you might recognise my name. I dont Mod or IRCop there anymore, (damn EA for dropping Origin!), but if your a familiar face let me know! I have to say this game is growing more and more addictive by the day. Heh, I actually live for over an hour in game now. What a steep learning curve! I do have a query to throw out there to do with Cargo Pod collection. If I send a shuttle or even fly one out to collect one myself I cant seem to locate the cargo.I see the shuttles pick them up with the "cargosweep" command, but the cargo is absent (I think) when the shuttle comes back. I read the manual cover to cover, and searched here for a more detailed answer, but I must simply be doing something wrong. Sorry in advance for my extreme newbiness.
