  1. I live..... Same email that's in the yahoo groups....
  2. So it's march... I decided I needed some leave time..... But contrary to popular belief, the rumors of my death were greatly exagerated.
  3. If you walk into a gun store and ask for .30 cal you'll get something very different than .308 winchester. .30 cals were used at the beginning of nam. Semantics... on to better stuff. Dragon Lady brings up an interesting point. Shuttle pilots defending themselves assumes that the shuttles will be staying on the ground. This is a bad tactic to begin with. The prefered doctrine is to have the shuttle leave and loiter, in the air, a short (time wise) distance away. There would also be gunships to provide LZ security for the shuttle when it was making it's drop, and to protect the SCs while they were loitering. The shuttle would be extremely vulnerable on the ground, so just don't land. With the current sensor modeling, you'd have to go WAY FAR AWAY in order to be undetected. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but hills do not provide any kind of sensor masking what so ever. The only way to disappear from them is to go outside their range. As far as the moblie base goes, isn't the one in tribes 2 more of a foreward supply point? If so then the SCs already provide that kind of capability. Call me silly, but what's IIRC stand for?
  4. well it just goes to show how peopel love to blow out of proportion what people say.... watch your mouth on good ol Captiol Hill.... death to the media.
  5. I am continually amazed how people can turn any situation/discussion into a discussion about themselves. Please send your sister my thanks for going and doing something I do not have the moral fibers to do. I am fundamentally against ME personally killing someone or being in an organization that does that. This is what the military exists for: Blowing people and things up. Every position in the military exists to that end. I cannot bring myself to do that voluntarily. I will stand with the next militia person to defend my home when "they" invade, but I do not want to unless I have to. I also understand that blowing things and people up needs to be done from time to time, even when my home is not under a tangible, fightable threat. I count my lucky stars everyday that I live in a country that has a volunteer military, and that there are enough volunteers to fill it. While I sit back and go to college to become successful in the business world, and fill my time with the pretend military of BCM, there are people out there putting their lives on the line to make sure that world exists. No one told them to go out and do it. They got up and decided to do that themselves. It is these brave few that keep back the monsters in the night. It is for them I have my deepest and undying respect. I hope your sister has a quick and uneventful tour, and returns home safely. My Two Yellow Ribbons
  6. Twinkle twinkle little bar, how I wish you were a silver star.......... Not in the military, don't plan to be, God Bless you people for keeping my bum safe.
  7. They wrote a book and web site about these sorts of "open mouth - insert foot" moments. http://americansbehavingbadly.com/ psst.... it's Cahones...... $ilk, well Lott he believes that desegregation caused problems, shouldn't that factor into your opinons? And that article says that Thurmond embraced desegregation after it became popular. Rather interesting way to win votes if you ask me. quote:Buchanan's latest book is here! "The Death of the West" is an eye-opening expos├® of how immigration invasions are endangering America. Both autographed and unautographed copies are now available at WorldNetDaily's online store! Interesting how a country almost entirely populated by immigrants and their decendants could be threatened by them...... I do remember a KKK poster reading "America for Americans" On to more pertinent subjects... the statement was about something that happened a long time ago. More than a few people have thrown around the theory of keeping the different ethnic groups seperate. It's something I don't agree with since a global economy, fast becoming a reality, does not have room for such policies. More than a few people have decided to trounce on Mr. Lott because of his remarks. It is not the remarks that people seem to be trouncing on, but what those remarks represent. Perhaps this country has become a little too race sensitive. Some even argue that the scale has not only leveled but is going back in the other direction. It's easy for us to say "There's no problem, I don't see it," when our ethnicity is not of that group in question. Try walking in their shoes for a few miles. Be a male college athlete who can't get a wrestling scholarship, even though he's #1 or 2 in his state, because of Article IX, when a totally inexperienced female who decided to take up rowing can get a full ride scholarship, and then tell me there is no problem. Or a white student who was rejected from a college when an african student with lower test scores was admited. Some have expressed apathy at the whole situation. At what point will people take notice? If you don't stand up for THEM now, who is going to be left to stand up for YOU? My two rupees.
  8. quote:Originally posted by matrix: [QB] if enemy is certain to capture the base why not have a "commander" order evac and self destruction of facilities? put a "vote" option to defenders if they agree to actully commit such course of action. not only would it put more preasurre on attakers to capture facility intact but to find a "off switch" for a timed self destruct device. have some sort of vehicle that can be a mobile construction base that can be moved or moved out prior to self destruction so a new base can be build for defenders somewhere else. enemy could try to knock it out while it is moving out putting more preassure on defenders. this would force more cooperation between teamswether they would be defenders or offenders in given scenario.[QB]An interesting idea BUT: 1. Are people really going to take the time to vote when they are trying to make those base capping jerks pay for their last few feet to victory with as much blood as possible? 2. A simple "down time" feature would simulate the required repairs and such to any destroyed equipment before the base becomes completely operational. During this time while defenses are repaired and the shelves restocked.... perfect time for a counter attack. The first thing any attacker is going to do is destroy all the base defenses... these will remain down until rebuilt. The attackers now become defenders of a dilapidated base while things get repaired. 3. The resources and build time represented by those static buildings are far too valuable for any government to destroy before capture. It would be better for them to let them fall into enemy hands with the prospect of capturing them back later. Plus with #2 in effect, the counter attack would come almost immediately. 4. Moving the base would be interesting, but there are a LOT of facilities in one fully functional base to move. The new reestablished base would be nearly useless until it was rebuilt, if it survives the journey. As soon as it leaves the garage, it will come under direct attack. Assuming this was done when the base was about to be lost anyway, there will be little to no defense for it and it goes boom anyway.
  9. SHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Wadda ya trying to do? Get us busted?! ^^
  10. The Star Wars Timothy Zahn books.... Name of Grand Admiral Thrawn's ship... also the name of a mythical creature. I chose Oni for the name of my ship. Just because it means "Demon" in Japanese. I also named my fighter that... (I'm the only fighter pilot in the ISS) [ 12-11-2002, 03:40 PM: Message edited by: CedricB ]
  11. Still alive and kicking... too busy with finals to make a meaningful post.
  12. Psst... Locutus..... They carry M60s (.308/7.62mm), M2s (.50 cal), or the .308/7.62 miniguns as door guns. They even have seperate windows for the gunners. American forces haven't used .30 cal MGs since Nam.... The air crew flying the aircraft rarely use their personal defense weapons. Those are provided in case they get shot down and have to defend themselves. But, there was one documented case in The Battle Of Mogadishu of a AH-6 pilot using his MP5 while rescuing a crewman from the first crash. Usually they are too busy flying the aircraft to shoot. They depend almost entirely on their door gunners to spot and eliminate ground threats. [ 12-11-2002, 03:32 PM: Message edited by: CedricB ]
  13. KICK BUTT!!!!!! *turns into screaming fanboy* [ 12-01-2002, 05:56 AM: Message edited by: CedricB ]
  14. Woot!!!! So you PC people want a setup like that? Some simple steps...... 1. Get good at electronic technical stuff. (Just the soddering and what DPDT Switches are.) 2. Buy an EPIC interface card. 3. Buy lots of buttons and switches and other things. 4. Build build build build build 5. Enjoy. Look up home built cockpits for some wacky setups. When I had money I SERIOUSLY considered making one for BCM...... but alas, money is fickle. *sigh*
  15. *just noticed that Gallion has the Graf Spee* So does that mean you're going to run off all alone?
  16. Actually S-2 would be a better name (check my location and you'll see why I'm into Area 51).... S-2 is supposed to be south of the main base at Area 51 and is nothing more than some doors in the side of a mountain. Some aeronautical engineer (Bob Lazar) said he worked out there and saw several "alien" craft. I think Revel released a model UFO based on his testimony. But there is a model kit out there. The only problem is that in all the annuals of the school Bob went to that anyone can find (alumnai copies and the school archives), he's not in there. So his story has been discounted as a hoax. Or is this the Illuminati at it again? FNORD!
  17. I am a Defender-ship. I am fiercely protective of my friends and loved ones, and unforgiving of any who would hurt them. Speed and foresight are my strengths, at the cost of a little clumsiness. I'm most comfortable with a few friends, but sometimes particularly enjoy spending time in larger groups. What Video Game Character Are You?
  18. CONGRATS JAG!!!! Well, look at the bright side, you'll have someone who can lift heavy objects, kick the sister's BFs bums when they do silly things, and if he keeps up with the height thing, retrieve objects from high shelves.... I'm 6'2" and a good 6" above my dad and almost a foot over my mom. "Could you get that for me son" isn't a question anymore. It's an order. >.<
  19. Well considering I've just about ditched E&B for BCM SINGLE PLAYER.......... just a few points comparing the two. 1. One-click combat. ew. (BCO +1) 2. Can NOT change ships after starting game. ew. (BCO +1) 3. Can only exit onto stations. ew. (BCO +1) 4. NO... repeat NO PVP... even though they give us more than a few reasons to really hate eachother. ew. (BCO +1) 5. Freewarp, no need for waypoints or warp targets if you so choose. (EB +1) I know the model in BC series is based apon engines and not distances, but being able to warp past fast moving objects (disabled fighters and such with no destination) to try and tractor them would be nice. 6. Economy Model, overall.... (BCO +1) 7. Galaxy size (BCO +1) 8. A warp speed that actually does go faster than the speed of light. (BCO +1) 9. Number of Players in one region. (BCO +1) When the nick name for Somerled becomes SomerLAG because just 100-200 players are there, that's a prob. 10. Bigger ships. (BCO +1) when do I get a cap ship in EB anyway? Oh... NEVER? I'm stuck with a frigate? More like a sloop actually. Hmmm... 9-1... maybe you're right. It is unfair to compare the two... unfair for E&B
  20. I do believe that the reservist pilots get the same training as the frontline pilots. I remember being told about reservists at the Red Flag exercises (tee hee... the name is a throw back to the cold war... during the frist gulf war, it was called "Desert Flag".) As far as having actual combat experience, it's a moot point. Most of the pilots that were around during the gulf war are now getting pretty old. The Red Flag exercises are as close as they can get. There aren't many places where we can send In the terms of self defense for a pilot, AAA fire at +2-3000 feet AGL isn't much of a threat. They didn't have any radars so his RWR wasn't going to be beeping away at him. I'm sure he was briefed that the OPFOR didn't have any shoulder launched IR missles. The pilot was in an area that could have contained friendlies and he didn't bother to check. There was a whole series of checks he could have done, which are a part of ANY PILOTS BASIC TRAINING. He chose to ignore it and kill several people. Friendly Fire isn't.
  21. Careful... in those underground bunkers, they hide...... THEIR LIPS......
  22. I agree that those pilots were dummies. Some facts about myself: 1. I live in Las Vegas, NV. 2. I have many friends in the AF. 3. Militaria is a big hobby of mine. 4. Nellis AFB is home to "Red Flag", the AF version of "Top Gun" 5. I get to hear a lot of stories from the base. There have been several accidents over the years on that base. Several come to mind: 1. An F-111 Aardvark was trying to evade a simulated missile and flew into a ridge, killing both crewmen during a training exercise. 2. During a simulated dogfight, one F-15 was accidentally loaded with a live AIM-120 missile and shot down another F-15. The Wing Commander survived. He was shot down by the newb Lt. 3. During regular maintinence, an F-16 engine block was not properly secured to the test bed. Only 1/2 of the tie downs were used. When ramped up to full power, it slid off the test bed and fell 4' to the ground. 4. During the re-installation of another F-16 engine, the control cable was not calibrated properly. Although the throttle was in "idle", the engine was running at full Mil (full power, no ABs). When the plane was started on the tarmac, it jumped the blocks and rolled off the end of the runway. The pilot ejected saftely while the aircraft went into the nice desert dirt and sucked up lots of rocks and destroyed the engine. The point? In not one of these cases was someone held criminally responsible. I'm glad that someone finally put these people up to stand trial for what they have done. As an American I'm offended that this kind of negligence, ESPECIALLY with live ordanace happened. Several good men are dead that didn't need to be. They CLEARLY did not bother with protocols and the ROE in identifying their targets. Let the Canadians hang em high I say. My two pesos.
  23. I'm sure if you ask nicely, someone will be more than happy to provide you with a EULA for the Xbox. 1. Kicking Hackers There is NO GOOD REASON to mod the Xbox and MS knows it. The latest fad seems to be just to be able to watch DVDs from other regions in violation of trade/copyright laws. If you attempt this kind of illegal activity, you sure as heck aren't going to get a ticket to ride the Xbox LIVE train, I'll tell you that much. 2. Owning what you buy. You read the EULAs for your games yes? MANY EULAs carry small passages about not disassembleing, de-compiling, modifying, or altering anything. On many products, as soon as you even crack the case open, all your warranties go out the window. You can't modify your car outside the boundries of the law. Try and alter your cable box that you bought and see what the cable company thinks of that. My 2 sheckels
  24. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: How convenient. Are you one of those who bought the game, installed it, cracked it, then returned it? Anyway, you can pick up a copy of BCM from EB for $9.99 now. Buy a new copy if you want the manual and keyboard.Oh yeah... like your infinitely powerful hacking skills couldn't pick that up... I've been around a while ya know. I remember the discussion on how you detect that kind of stuff. Hmmm... maybe I'll get my friend to buy it so I can steal his manual... he's got MY SELF PRINTED manuals for Flanker 2.5 and Sub Command (200+ pages each) THANK YOU SC FOR GIVING US A PRINTED MANUAL!!!! PDFs suck....
