  1. Thanks guys Cougar_DK, I used Video Vegas 4 to edit it. I could have gone further with some of the effects but didn't want it to look too weird. UC has so many elements it's a dream to use for this kind of thing. It actually fills a role as a kinda film directors software sandbox. 'Cut!! Resnig, get out of the frame!'
  2. quote:Originally posted by Grizzle: Great Job Banquet!! Lotsa real nice transitions and such. Now I'm either going to impress you or look like a fool, Music by The Stranglers? Grizzle, Thanks Yep, it's the stranglers (I'm impressed!) Couldn't find half my cd's so the song I wanted didn't make it, but I thought that sounded kinda apt in a strange way
  3. quote:Originally posted by Grizzle: I was working on one with BCMG, but decided to wait until UC was out. Been thinking about it lately and I think you just sparked me to it. DL'ing as I type it's, purty slow. Sorry man, sounds like my web provider ain't so great at this. Nakaleen, You're vid sounds good. I'll d/l it tomorrow and take a look. I used fraps to capture screens for this. I only used 15fps but it still took 18 gig to get the scenes for the vid. I don't think my card has svideo out. That would be the perfect solution tho!
  4. Hi Guys, I spent yesterday evening and the better part of today making a 4 minute video, taken from UC. It's a practise attempt really. I want to do another one that hopefully will be better all round. It was good fun though, and shows some of UC's great features.. If anyone's interested they can download it from the link below; http://www.deep-puddle.com/ I hope it works. The file is 28 meg zipped. I've never hosted a file before so if something goes wrong, put it down to me being an idiot. edit: it's in windows media format Cheers
  5. Well, I read it. What can I say, there are people who wouldn't know a good game if it slapped them in the face. I hope DC do something about the few people who are stirring it up. Just serves to remind me, that for all the people who ***** about THIS forum being having strict posting rules.. it's actually a nice place to come and chat, compared to the flame war bollocks that are allowed on other sites. If some people prefer that, good riddance to em.
  6. Good luck, and thanks for looking into it
  7. I tried going back to the 52.16 drivers. No improvement with the clouds unfortunately. I'll try those beta drivers too.. although it could take a while cause I seem to have cained my hd - it only boots properly about 1 in 10 times. I ain't that bothered about the clouds, although it is intriguing what's happened and why it's only happening for some people. Like Gol_Stoan, I also have a Geforce 4 ti 4400
  8. Yes, I'll try going back to an older set and let u know what happens
  9. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: OK, go to OPTIONS and turn off the cloud plane. Tell me what happens. You would have to save your settings, then quit all the way to the OS, before restarting the game, otherwise the cloud plane will not be disabled. I just tried this. I turned off the cloud plane.. the clouds disappeared and the sky looked fine. I saved settings and quit to OS and went back in. Still no clouds, sky looked fine. Put the clouds back and they look dark. I might be wrong, but it seems the clouds are still 'light' but rather the gaps are black. I can't see the sky through the gaps. cheers
  10. Fox__Trot, you're not giving up on Cruis. In, eh! Anyway, this is me; I work for the Inland Revenue in England (and, at a party, that's as far as I get before people start wandering off) I'm 36, living with my long term girlfriend of 17 years (she's not 17, unfortunately! ) No Kids yet. Err.. and my name is John, and I'm a BC aholic. It's been a long time now since I've had this addiction.. I thought I could handle it at first but I'm here to admit I have a problem. Ooh, sorry.. wrong topic
  11. Hey Jaguar, happy birthday man And what better birthday pressie than being able to play UC
  12. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Shingen: Is nullspace still in UC? I'd always go there if I needed to repair or whatnot. It's as quiet as the grave there. Yeah, but it is highly unlikely that a n00b can find their way around the system, let alone how to get to null space. Now that you've brought it up - and they [n00bs far and wide] have seen it, you might as well tell them how to get there. The ROAM/ACM universe in UC is the same as in BCM/G quote:Originally posted by Bandus: Derek, did you code AI with mercy? :grins: No, not really Just finished reading that.. great stuff
  13. Earth already looks like earth.. your on the Pacific side, that's all. Select earth in TACOPS and rotate around it. It actually looks great
  14. Cool, got the patch installed The clouds seem different now. Much darker.. almost like a negative image. Anyone else getting that? Maybe I've just had bad weather wherever I've been so far. The list of bug fixes and enhancements is really cool Edit, also I installed the new 53.03 nvidia drivers yesterday, could be that affecting the clouds [ 02-10-2004, 03:33 PM: Message edited by: Banquet ]
  15. I can't get the patch from either.. just get a maze of popups and the annoying internet optimiser screen at the final page. Will keep trying.
  16. Actually that's not a bad idea.. an atlas or travel brochure of the universe I think I'll look into it!
  17. Another thing that I really like, that seems to be different from BCMG (unless it's my imagination) is that not only does the terrain have the nice fauna and wildlife, but it seems more varied and less generic in UC. I was a passenger in a shuttle flight last night, across some 1000 miles of terrain and noticed there are some real high mountains ranges and interesting topology. Certainly adds to feel of exploring. Something that would be neat for a saddo like me would be a feature to add notes to the planetary maps.. you could name features.. i.e Banquet's folly for the mountain peak I eventually crashed into cause I was too busy admiring the view and forgot I'd taken autopilot off for a quick jolly.
  18. Ok, well one way to do it is to use tacops. Observe the planets and zoom into the terrain a few times. Then use the mouse to rotate the view around so you can see if it's day or night. If it's dark, zoom back out to the whole planet view and try somewhere else on the opposite side on the planet. When you've found a suitable spot set some landing waypoints and go in on AP. edit: blinkin eck.. pipped to the post [ 02-09-2004, 02:35 PM: Message edited by: Banquet ]
  19. I've only ever played roam mode as a commander (i.e carrier, cruiser, armed or unarmed transport) Believe me, there's plenty to do. Infact just getting from point A to point B without being stripped of your major systems (and self dignity) is quite a challenge! The way I play is usually starts like this; Take command of the biggest (super) carrier available. Use Tacops to assign deploy drone waypoints to all shuttles (after I assigned 1 marine and 1 sys engineer to each shuttle) Kit up about a dozen marines to prep for combat Assign another dozen marines to searching detail Assign any co-pilots to piloting duties on any unassigned fighters Launch 2 fighters to patrol and 2 to escort carrier Crew training exercise.. when shuttle 1 returns from drone deployment, me and half a dozen marines go planetside for some training Cut power to launch control (pesky boarders!) Tell Resnig to go find the nearest KFC Wait for all mining drones to complete ops Collect drones Depart planet Dock at nearest space station Sell minerals collected by drones Feel temporarily rich Realise I'm not rich when I see the price of replacement parts Spend money on parts, armour, shields, power resources Feel quite good, go out and explore Die in a really cool battle Restore game, plan ever more complicated ways of dying in battle
  20. rp/ Come on lad, you're a starship captain! Years of training have led to you being entrusted with a major asset of the fleet. Your orders are clear.. protect your allies, distrupt your enemies! If you need orders, son, maybe you'd be better off on one of our PTA stations.. no Captain should ever be asking for orders in a universe as tumultous as ours!! rp/
  21. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: That all got nixed once Dreamcatcher decided to refocus the game - which saw me making things more idiot proof, redesigning and refocuing entire game engines (e.g. the fp mode) just to cope. As a result, a plethora of features (23 in all), such as the new galaxy, persistent server support, the ability to capture starbases, the ability to build your own bases in space/planets, the ability to upgrade your CC etc etc. I could go on, but you folks would just get depressed. Too late! Man, an add on with all that stuff would be so cool. I hate DC. How about a 'mini', downloadable add on with maybe the extra universe and the base building for 15-20 bucks?
  22. Ben's link is to a UK shop, not a US one
  23. Shriver, There's a freeware sim called Orbiter which has accurate physics and interplanetary space travel. It's great. There's no combat of course and I think if you played it you'd realise why UC doesn't use real physics.. it'd be a bloody nightmare. Just landing on a planet with retro burns and all would take ages to master and would result in more crashes than success.. the whole thing is too much for a combat game. I can't speak for others, but when I mentioned the size of planets I was speaking about the terrain graphics. Morrowind has hand placed graphics that (to my mind) look beautiful. You are limited, though, to a rather small island. Flight Sim 2004 has the whole planet earth, but uses generic tiles and autogen buildings and trees to cover it. UC has 250 whole planets, so obviously no one is expecting things to be hand placed.. It's the sort of game where you could be wandering around in FPS hankering after a bit more eye candy.. but what if you fly down 40 marines to the planet, 4 shuttles, 8 fighters, 8 ground craft with the cc firing off OTS weapons from above, and the enemy base respond with similar numbers.. suddenly the onscreen poly count is massive! UC is unlike any other space game out there. It gives you choices no other game can give. Hopefully when you play the game more you will see this and enjoy it for what it is. When trying to plan a base attack by bringing in teams of personnel from your ship, placing your assets for attack, the last thing you want to worry about it orbital mechanics and escape velocities! If you play it for 10 minutes I guess you could think it's a 20 quid game, but take my word for it, it ain't. It's worth a hell of a lot more
  24. Hi mfh I'm no expert but I haven't yet found a way to save the game without also exiting from it. I put this down to being a quirk of the game. I die a lot too and would surely appreciate a quick save option
