  1. Heh, 'pretty cool'? Here's what I used to do in BCMG. I'd take a fighter pilot down to a planet and come in low, appoaching an enemy base. I'd land on top of a hill where I had a good view of the base. I'd get out, and using tacops, I'd create waypoints for my shuttles to fly down from orbit and land around the base, deploy their ground vehicles, and then RTB. Then I'd give the orders and wait. It's so cool to watch the shuttles drop in from orbit, fly down to their waypoint just as the base's defense systems start to wake up. Then zoom in with my scope as they land and deploy the vehicle. It's fun plotting my own invasion of a city from the safety of my hilltop. I prefer to do it that way than from space, kind of like in those movies about wars where the commanders would watch and orchistrate the battle from the top of a hill. Uh oh, my HAVs are getting heat from the fighters the bases deployed. Time to call in my fighters as reinforcements. If the battle doesn't go my way, I'll return to the GCV-Dauntless and either fly down and unleash my PTA system on them, or have my troops retreat and just hit 'em with an OTS if the situation is bad enough.
  2. I wouldn't have thought of that one. Another buggy bites the dust Thanks
  3. I'm suprised I can run it with my ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro card (32mb card, and becoming more and more dated). Earth looks like a gaint blue marble though. Guess I'll buy a ATI 9600 or something.
  4. I'm having the same problem. I start a new game. Ter/Mil, Battlecruiser Mk III. I launch, assign my AE to OC-1, and a marine to SC-1. I fly down to earth. I land the shuttle. I deploy the GV and drive around. Press Alt+E to get out and CTD.
  5. In addition to what others said... Dont expect it to land everywhere perfectly. Earth can be pretty rocky. I try to find a mostly flat area, get in close, and then use CALS. Trying to land on the side of a mountain is not good. Remember that, for a while it was debated whether a CC should even be able to establish planetfall-- and there were some good reasons why they shouldn't. Ultimately, you can still take them planetside, but you have to remember that CCs are friggen big, so you have to take more care in how you use them. You cant trust the A/P to do everything right. My suggestion is, find a nice flat area to land on first, and CALS should work every time. In the end, things like this, coupled with your own imagination, help make the game more fun in my eyes.
  6. Okay, I haven't read this whole thread yet, so... I was discussing this with my friends earlier... I would have gladly paid $40 for the game and had lots of new features added in through patches just like with the previous titles-- but now that dreamcatcher decided to screw things up, 3000ad may not be ABLE to do the kinds of feature enhancements and such like they planned. I've read before about how indie developers get shafted out of nearly all the money a game makes. They get shafted when the game sells for $39.99... now they're going to get it even worse when the game sells for $20. It makes me mad because in the end, it's us gamers who suffer. I'd support any of the plans like a direct paypal donation, or selling add-ons for extra. Course, some things may simply not be viable. The idea of selling add-ons would be cool, but then 3000AD is stuck supporting two versions of the game or more. Etc. Anyway, I dont know what will work best in the end, but I dont think the $20 price is fair. Not fair to the people at 3000AD who spent countless hours on the game, or to the gamers who buy it and play it. Boycotting the game will only hurt 3000AD. Buy the game, enjoy it. Hopefully SC can sue Dreamcatcher for damages afterwards.
  7. About the widescreen issue. I'm using a widescreen monitor right now, and the D3D games I've played (which are a few) supported widescreen at 1920x1200 resolution. Those games were Deus Ex, and Medal of Honor. Though I dont expect all games to support such a near rediculous resolution, it's cool when they do. It adds to the immersion factor when the games fills up all the 24 inch widescreen goodness my monitor offers. Though, I said "widescreen issue". It's actually not an issue at all. Few people have widescreen monitors, and widescreen support does not make a game more fun. On another note, I drove 20 miles out to the only gamestop in my area that had the game to buy it tonight, and when I got there I couldn't get it because their credit card machine was down and I only had a $20 bill (not enough to cover the tax).
  8. About the sig image. I wasn't sure myself, perhaps it's my big monitor making it look small. I'll scale down the image.
  9. Hmm, after some consideration, I think I should have posted that over in the Tips forum. I'd delete my post but is seems the time for me to do so has expired. Oops.
  10. I know people hate repition of information here, but I'm in a position to help so I will. Perhaps it wont help this guy, but maybe some other newbie? I found the easy thing to do is immediatly tractor that diplomat soon as he launches. Then fly to Majoris yourself and let 'em loose. The disadvantage here is your shields will be down the whole time, and you can expect to run into some baddies along the way. If you're in a slow moving cruiser this can be dangerous. Setting your shuttle to tow the diplomat, and then tell it to escourt you might work better. This way you can fly to Majoris at your own pace, with shields, and if you run into some heat you can deal with 'em and they'll probably leave the diplomat alone if they're busy focusing on you. Also, if the shuttle blows up, the diplomat will just continue to majoris and you can still offer protection.
  11. Any review by GCM isn't even worth the bits they're stored on. Any fair, balanced, DECENT reviewer knows that there are different games for different people. The reviewer didn't like the game, thats fine. But he cant even see past that and look at other qualities of the game that might appeal to other gamers with different tastes. This reveals to me that the reviewer simply wanted to bash a game for the sake of bashing and making funny witticisms. GCM is junk.
  12. I think the problem here is this Kasey guy, and probably a lot of other people, aren't really taking the time to master the controls and learn to use the information that is provided to it's fullest. When you start playing BC, you simply have to concern yourself with the basics. To try to do more would cause your brain to explode. After you play like this for a while you have to step up and study that manual a little more and learn to use those things you've been skipping over. Every time I play BC (I'm quite capable in the game but nowhere near mastered) I find out how some feature really does help a lot and I find out how to use it right. For example, I used to use the , and . keys exclusivly to cycle through targets. In fights this turned out to be very cumbersome to try to target an attacker using this method. Then I remembered seeing a "Nearest target in my line of sight" key and tried it out. Sure helps a lot obviously. BCM is a lot easier to use than it's predecessors. The pick up and play aspect has really improved. Yet the game is still a SIMULATION and requires you to think if you expect to get better. Just my .02 creds.
  13. Got mine a few days ago! Been playin with BC in some form or another for a while, glad to finally OWN it. Previously I had played BC3K demo and the free BC3K v2. I have to say again, that was cool as hell for SC to release BC3K v2 to the public for free. I think that was the moment when I decided, I have to buy BCM when it came out. Course, things came up and I only got around to buying BCMG just now. BCG is going to rock!
  14. My current ship name is Dauntless, which means "Incapable of being intimidated or discouraged; fearless." I like that one a lot. Another one I like is Peerless, "Being such as to have no match; incomparable." Used to my ship name was the GCV-Chaoticmass, and still is on occasion.
