  1. I will do that tonight when I get home from work SC! Thanks for the reply!
  2. I am getting CTDs everytime I hit Alt-E to exit a ship in space. The details: Location: Jupiter off of Europa Moon and deeper into space between Jupiter and the moon. Ship: Both the Command Craft and a fighter. Save game status: Once with a saved game and once with a "fresh" start ROAM mode game. In one of the CTDs I was just going out sightseeing, slowed the fighter to a Halt, went to Orders menu and ordered a Halt so craft would not leave me as soon as I stepped out! Hit Alt-E and immediate CTD. The other one, I pulled my CC close to my disabled shuttle so that I could jump out and take command of the shuttle. Again immediate CTD. This is unlike the other CC CTD that I posted earlier. It is hard to explain but this CTD happens "faster" than the other one. With the other one I had, I would hit ALT-E, get a sec lag like I was going to exit the craft, then black screen, then CTD. This one as soon as I hit ALT-E I get CTD, almost like I hit ALT-F4 or something. Thanks SC!
  3. Well, I should be classified as a Noob. I played BCM, but I am not as sure of myself as some of you fools! Someone lemme know when I enter vet status, will ya?
  4. I am thinking of becoming a Raider in UC. I normally play Military in BCM, so just kinda looking for a change. So, here is my question: How does XP work for Raiders? How do you get negative XP, or can you? I did a search and found the question asked before but for some reason never answered, so I was hoping I could clear it up. Also any tips for the Raider class would be helpful! Thanks in advance!
  5. Okay, this was posted in the Gone Gold Forum and I do not know the answer to it! Any help? Is there anyway at all to assign new waypoint orders when your not in the CC? Specifically, I took a marine detachment down to a planet to attack an enemy base. I was there first with a couple escorts to scout it out and decide where to attack. (Mostly just for kicks ), however once I decided what to do, I went to the tacops screen, but the waypoint button was red and I couldn't use it. The result was, I had a shuttle full of marines that was to be the main force, but try and I might I couldn't get them to land. I could get the shuttle to fly nearby, but there was no option I could find to deploy the troops, and I couldn't get to the waypoint menu to give the craft orders to drop the troops. So, point being... if I can't access the waypoints, how do I tell my shuttle to drop troops? [ 02-13-2004, 06:18 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  6. Ahhhh, I want one of those SC!!! Hey, I did do the Manual Appendix .pdf conversion thingy afterall!!
  7. SC, would you mind if I link this thread to the GOne Gold forums? Guys there could sure use it and it would give them a better idea of the depth of the universe you have created!
  8. No problem SC!! If anyone wants that Kinko's file just lemme know or you can go here, and download the tool to convert it for free. BTW, just as an aside, it ELric not Eric, got me name from the Michael Moorcock books (a good read if ya have a chance!)!
  9. Did you download it from Gamer's Hell? I did at first and got the same error. I tried the 3D Gamers download and it installed fine. Looks like the Gamer's Hell download is corrupt or something. Theirs is zipped while the 3D Gamer's one is not, so that could be it!
  10. Ok, I sent the .pdf over to Derek tonight. Sorry it took so long, I had to work late this evening. Hopefully, he will look at it and approve it and post it for you guys later! Having it in .pdf format and a printed version is great!!
  11. Hey, Fox, will your Yahoo account take a file this size?? Remember it is 10 and 18 megs respectively! Most won't hold this much!
  12. BTW, after bringing it to Kinko's I found that the print in B&W will cost about $21 bound and double sided. If you try to do it color it jumps WAY, WAY up! To about $220 to be exact!
  13. Well, I now have it in both .pdf format as well as Kinkos File Prep format. The Kinkos one allows you to take it straight to Kinko's and have it printed without any conversion. The .pdf is about 10mbs and the Kinkos is about 18 mbs. Just tell me how ya want me to send them and I will be happy to! ************EDITED FOR SPELLING BY SLOAN********** [ 02-09-2004, 12:01 AM: Message edited by: Elric_Sloan ]
  14. Well, so far it has only happened to me as a Commander. I step out of my CC in space and CTD. I have landed on a planet and used ALT-E to leave my craft and not had a CTD.
  15. Sorry, SC! Here are some specifics: Craft: Firestorm as well as a coupla others, all military craft, have not tried another ship. Area: Earth Orbit. I tried as soon as I spawned in. Cut engines back to VTOL, and immedieatley hit the exit craft keys. Immediate CTD, everytime with multiple CCs. Everytime I have tried it was on immediately starting a ROAM game. I have not flown anywhere else to try it there, but I will do so now. Thanks!
  16. This is easily reprodcible for me. I enter the game (no save game file) slow the CC down to VTOL and hit Alt-E to exit craft. I immediatley CTD. I have tried this with 3 different CCs and as far as I know am doing nothing wrong. Anyone else getting this problem? Thanks!
  17. That is definite, the forum is a great tool, but I like to sit down at luch from work and read and this would be a great game to read about! BTW, I converted the appendix to a .PDF format and was thinking of taking it down to Kinko's and having it printed. Is that ok? I am sure you can do it at home on your own printer, but I wasn't sure about having it printed at Kinko's? I dont wanna infringe on any copyrights!!
  18. If the game had been released at the proper price of 39.99, the possibility existed that we may have seen an actual Strategy Guide for the game. Most A-List titles (of which this is certainly one!), have a good strat guide and this game is begging for one! Heck, just the info in the Appendix would make one hell of a Strategy Guide! Its too bad DC decided to go this course, because they really have a winner on their hands!
  19. Come on Shriver! Just PLAY the game! That is all there is to it, forget your math and physics for a moment and have fun! I agree with Hellbinder about the graphics, they are perfect for this massive universe and I am more than happy with them!
  20. BTW, Derek, shouldnt you be in bed? We need that patch and tutorials tomorrow! Need ya well rested!!
  21. quote:Personally I would expect someone who is supposed to be a Programmer, Physics major or whatever to grasp the depth of this game pretty Quickly.. I am a little Suprised at your comments. There is no need to get insulting... I'm 19 years old and I have been attending Embry-Riddle University since I was 17. My specialized field of physics is flight dynamics and unstable airframe designs. I do enjoy games like Independence war and Terminus and their Newtonian flight models in varying degrees of realisim and I was hoping for something similiar. I was one of the many disappointed in EVE online with the "skunked" models and ignorant ship flight characterisitics. They have Zero understanding of acceleration and gravitational constants in non frictional enviornments. That being said, UC seems to have similar problems with general physics that any first semester physics class would bring into play. I can only imagine programming them into a game would be a rather collosall task at best for a large staff, let alone an independent development company. User Interfaces have a huge pyschology behind their developement. High performance Aircraft use simplified displays, controls and instrumentation to prevent pilot overload. There are two forms of UI, Positive and Negative Interfaces. The F-22 Raptor has a positive interface, with much of the Aircraft's "house keeping" in the hands of the Airdata Computer, leaving tactical and fight handling to the pilot. A perfect Example of Negative UI is in the A-6 Intruder. A pilot spent most of the time "Running the pattern" in the cockpit's instrumentation, to the point that I can only wonder how they ever had time to actually make a bomb run. UC seem's to have a Negative Interface, for reasons that I can not fathom. Graphically speaking, EVE has it beat hands down. Sorry but that is the case. It is rather difficult to find something that UC is comparable too. But keeping in mind the purported number of algorithms and processes running at any given time, I could state flatly that they are along the same lines as "Tribes". That is with all things considered. I have seen a number of things that indicate to me that the code could use a bit of tightening. The system seems to be running constantly an FDN rather than as a minimal. That is to say, it is trying to do everything at once, which as any Discrete math student can attest, is not possible or necessary. Principles of uncertainity and issues within the limitation of computability indicate that one is not warranted and another is not possible. Prinicples of uncertainity indicate that within dynamic environments, specific values can not be know simulatneously. The FDN is trying to do just that, when a Minimal would be more than sufficient to do the task. I see a number of people commenting about the size of planets in the game. Size is immaterial to scale. What is more important is minimal unit of measurment. A Planet measured in meters comes back with a very impressive number. Earth has a Mean Radius of 6.37 x 10^6 or 6,370,000 meters from the center to the surface. Jupiter has a radius of 11.2245 earth radii and doesn't seem to impressive. This is a simple matter for a math engine to handle. My T-89 seems to deal with both rather quickly. And how far is too far. From an engineering point of view, there are few instance where it is necessary to go below a 100th of a Radian. Is it necessary for the math engine to compute below a meter? Now, that being said... it is just a game. Some games are way overprices for what they charge, others are undervalued. I think I got skinned on Terminus, and my money's worth with I-War. EVE online was a bad Star Trek episode. Afer all that has been said and done. UC is a Twenty Dollar game out of the box. Ummmm....ok?!? You are totally ripping the physics and THEN admit that it is "just a game"? Very strange! I do not care if the physics are completely "right" as long as the game is fun, and, for me, it is. I do not care about the "math" involved, nor the "mean radius" of the Earth, I just wanna see the missile I just fired obliterate the city from Orbit! Relax, and play the game! You will find that there is so much to do, that you will forget about the physics and math of it and just have FUN!! It is "just a game" afterall!!
  22. Ok, I have been perusing the appendix trying to decide what Carrier or Cruiser I am going to start out with. I am stuck, so I thought I would get a few opinions! What is the best to take out? And what exactly are the primary differences between the Carrier and Cruiser classes? To let you know I plan to be a Military type Trader/explorer! Thanks and sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, I used the search and found several topics but nothing that I felt completely helped me out!
