I've never faulted others for not believing as I do, the problem that I have is when they try to fault me for not believing as they do. You may not have, but the endless wars around the middle east and other places are testament to the fact that many others do.

OK, isn't that what the Big Bang Theory says? So what's the difference? I believe that God created the Universe out of nothing. You believe that the Universe Created itself out of nothing. Which sounds dumber to you? They both pretty sound dumb to me. I never said I believed in either. No one knows what really happened in either case. That's exactly why I like Sagan's quote so much. It's amazing to me that people will have so much problem accepting that which is so plainly obvious, yet, so readily believe in the non-explanation, that everything just appeared from nothing. I've had it suggested to me that all the fossils were burried all over the planet by God as a trick to test our faith in him. ok... My favorite Carl Sagan quote comes to mind... "Those afraid of the universe as it really is, those who pretend to non-existent knowledge and envision a Cosmos centered on human beings will prefer the fleeting comforts of superstition. They avoid rather than confront the world. But those with the courage to explore the weave and structure of the Cosmos, even where it differs profoundly from their wishes and prejudices, will penetrate its deepest mysteries." -Carl Sagan
  4. Very cool info from NASA today. http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/03/02/m...ings/index.html Scientists have concluded the part of Mars that NASA's Opportunity rover is exploring was soaking wet in the past. Evidence the rover found in a rock outcrop led scientists to the conclusion. Clues from the rocks' composition, such as the presence of sulfates, and the rocks' physical appearance, such as niches where crystals grew, helped make the case for a watery history. "Liquid water once flowed through these rocks. It changed their texture, and it changed their chemistry," said Dr. Steve Squyres of Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., principal investigator for the science instruments on Opportunity and its twin, Spirit. "We've been able to read the tell-tale clues the water left behind, giving us confidence in that conclusion."
  5. I guess this is the origin of those weird Quisnos ads. http://www.breel.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/rath...ke_the_moon.swf Pretty funny!
  6. You can start the upgrade in space and then quickly dock at a station and complete the uprades as a repair at the station.

Even before they finish the jump Galcom defenses are obliterationg the ship without mercy and if its a slow ship it does not get any chance to move, and if i recall correctly the SC said he would revise this for (BCG) UC. Use your cloaking system and station capture is much easier.
  8. Nothing is wrong. GalcomHQ happens to be in orbit over the south Pacific. Fly around to the other side of the planet to see the continents, or fly away and look back. I think Galcom is secretly siphoning off all the earth's water. [ 02-08-2004, 07:28 PM: Message edited by: Andergum ]

Taking some getting used to, using w,s,a,d....granted that is what the majority of the fps games use. Put me down as a vote for the old system. I absolutely hate w-a-s-d. So much so that I haven't played Starwars KOTOR until they allowed the arrow keys to be mapped to movement (latest patch fixes that.) First impressions are... WOW! Many, many subtle changes and everything looks so polished now. Really digging it! The few keyboard mapping changes have really thrown me for a loop though and I feel like a newbie again! After years of knowing the BC keys by heart it tough to unlearn old habits. My solution so far has been to map a bunch of commands to my joystick. BTW, using the in game mapping for the joystick buttons doesn't work so well. Not that they don't map correctly, but they are REALLY sensitive. Pushing a button mapped to "cycle" targets results in the tragets whizzing by, much too fast. Again my solution was to map the corresponding keyboard commands to my stick using a MS joystick profile. now I just have to come up with a good mapping for all the commands. So many commands and so few buttons.... I really, really miss using the ships afterburners. This is going to take some getting used too. [ 02-06-2004, 03:30 PM: Message edited by: Andergum ]
  10. Derek, I just received a shipping confirmation from EB Games that my Universal Combat order has shipped. I thought I had cancelled the order but in my anger I must have clicked away from the confirmation screen too soon. I called EBgames and asked how much I was charged and he said $39.99. When I asked him why I was charged that much when his website has it listed for $19.99 he immediately offered me a $20 refund or the option to have them mail me a return envelope. Just thought you should know that it is indeed shipping from EB Games.

  12. This totally sucks. Is there any way to buy the game directly from you?? Perhaps a pay for support situation??? I'd much rather give the $$$ to you than have to give any to a-holes like Dreamcatcher.

  15. quote: Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Anyway, FWIW, I liked what little I played of X2 but until they address the joystick controls issue and revise the AI dogfighting somewhat, I'm probably not touching it again. I can't imagine how they could possibly botch something as important in a sim, as flight controls. Boggles the mind really. I haven't tried the 1.2 patch yet. The latest patch has fixed most joystick issues but the combat AI is still the same. Since I'm fighting from cap ships most of the time now it doesn't bother me as much. I also found it inexcusable that they botched the joystick support so badly. Hard to imagine that no one tested that portion of the game.
  16. I've been playing alot of X2 lately as well. Its a great game but does require much micro-management. Especially when you have over 260 ships and 30 stations to keep track of. There is no hyperdrive but there is a jump drive which can take your ship accross multiple sectors as long as you have enough energy crystals onboard. As far as instant action goes, once you have enough ships to mess around with all you need to do is attack a base or cap ship and they will launch defenses to retaliate, so you can pretty much create your own instant action situations. The carriers are really cool. They can hold as many as 150 ships in their docking bays!!Anything from the smallest fighters to transports and mining ships. I was disappointed with the storyline as it was very short. (I did wait to start the missions until I had a pretty huge fleet, so that did contribute to the shortness.) Also, after the scripted missions are completed, the enemy ships are still around and they keep randomly popping in and out of sectors where you have stations and ships located. It becomes a real pain in the butt to keep your assets safe from attacks and pretty much requires a cruiser class ship in each sector where you have stations or ships operating. Over all I've enjoyed playing X2 but I'm a bit burned out on it now. Guess I'm ready for Universal Combat!

Its stupid crap like this which takes away from legitimate problems.

Of course the preorder I made with Egosoft way back in May is nowhere to be seen.
  19. Got mine over the weekend. Pretty much its Xtension with a massive graphics overhaul, which is a good thing. Visuals are awesome, trading is good, ships, stations and sector effects look NICE, combat AI is weak and joystick sensitivity is a huge issue. Ever since I got hooked on BCMG's stick setup I've been flying my sims with the rudder & left/right axis switched. Can't do it in this game because the rudder is so insanly sensitive. I think I got a mouse set-up working ok so maybe combat will be improved. So far I'm liking it alot, even with the wonky combat. Hopefully they will release a patch to fix the controller issues.

However I heard recently that you can't use an ATI card on an ASUS motherboard as it uses a different power setting and will fry your board. Anyone else heard anything about this? There may be an issue with using AGP 8x video cards on an older motherboard that only supports AGP 2X. I'm runnning an ATI 9800XT on an Asus A7n8x(nforce2)mobo with absolutely no problems at all. You may want to check your power supply before upgrading though. I'd recommend at least a 400 watt power supply with any of the latest video cards. They are very power hungry!!
  21. Hey guys, my old insurgent page is here http://geocities.com/andergums/ Needless to say it hasn't been updated in a lloooonnnggg time but it does still contain most of the core information that Rattler, myself and others put together way back when. Feel free to use any or all of the info you want.
  22. I'm here as always. Lurking in the shadows
  23. Just got back from T3. Totally awesome movie. Great car/truck/terminator chase scenes and quite a bit of humor. It had me going from hanging on to the edge of my seat to laughing and back constantly. Best Terminator so far IMO.
