  1. Will the need to insert the original CD itself for UC ever be disabled in upcoming patches? Just curious.
  2. I'm looking for Single player game advice. Basically wondering if there is a way that when I deploy the away team, that 1: I am deployed with them at the same time, and 2: I can start issuing orders at that time without targeting them 1 by 1 or adding them to the PLV, seems like there is something I am missing.
  3. The E5150 intro to Mob Rules is some of the best lead up music....loved it in the Heavy Metal Movie too!! [ 03-10-2004, 06:16 PM: Message edited by: Darkken Nightshade ]
  4. Before starting this topic I did search the board for this question/answer. I read thru the thread but the thread's final answer seems tedious and perhaps there is a better way, so feel free to burn me but I would prefer the experienced answer. I put myself and 4 marines into the transporter. We beam down planetside. Thru the TOM menu I cannot issue them orders unless I go to TACOPS and tell each one to escort me first. Is there a faster way to acocmplish this? I put myself into the same AWAY team as 4 other marines and we deployed from the shuttle. I was suprised that being on the same away team did not have me able to issue them orders until I used TACOPS again. TOM said I could not until I did the escort steps again. (I am also pretty sure that even though I was in the SC1 away team, deploying the away team did not take me also outside the shuttle, I had to manually exit myself...perhaps therein lies the issue?) Now I would really like to get a SC1 max team of 12 together and go into hostile territoty. Surely I am missing a step that would make it so the second we touch ground I could deploy the away team and issue orders to my troops?? Please tell me I am a dope and missed something simple
  5. TD Rules! Soundtrack to one of my favorite movies...Near Dark.
  6. SC thanks! I honestly wasn't expecting you to take anytime out to answer these trivial questions, looks like I missed something in question 2/3 that I should have known already, I'll go thru the VCF and other docs again. Pretty please let me tow a carrier I promise to only take it to the desert and take a picture! BTW: Something really strange happened today. I set my carrier in VTOL mode at about 2000+ feet over the naval group. I sent my AE to the shuttle 1, and then I launched SC1. As soon as SC1 was in the air, the CC hit the water nose first. So I guess there was something I was supposed to do before I launched? See bonehead pic http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/bonehead.jpg Then the CC shifted in the water and basically collided with the carrier and knocked it high in the air. Then the carrier "righted" itself and pushed my CC deeper into the sea. I had landed my shuttle on a near by ship, got out and watched the spectacle. Man, while sad, it was kinda cool. I guess I should have been a Red Star Line captain http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/Carriertoss1.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/Carriertoss2.jpg Anyway, all this sillyness is just that, but it is what I enjoy about the open-ended aspect of the game, that you can go out there and mess-around, and then other times kick intersteller butt! Regards!
  7. I have been messing around with the naval group mission zones in both friendly and hostile races to mine. I have some questions: 1: When I complete planet fall and enter the zone of the naval group, I hear what sounds like large explosions off in the distance. About 2-3 SFX. I have tried to target and switch over to the naval group to see what is going on. Sometimes I see a gunship floating off and slowly sinking. Is there something going on that I am not quick enough to catch? 2: I seem to be able to fly right upto an enmeny group and they don't defend themselves. 3: Why are there all those spaceships floating in the water under the carrier? 4: Is there a way to tow one of these ships? Not the aircraft, I have already done that. Anyway, I'm hoping to gain some shared experiences as well in this thread related to naval mission zones. Some of my doings in the the navy zones: Stealing a helo: http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/hangontight.jpg You called my Momma a What??? http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/ucalledmymommawhat.jpg Bring it on! http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/knocknock.jpg Take that (I shot them with my antigravity ray!) http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/levitatetrick1.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/levitatetrick2.jpg Okay okay, who messed with the antimatter coordinates! http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/fusion1.jpg Hey, you scratched my anchor! http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/fusion2.jpg Thanks
  8. I towed this gunship into space with me, and as long as I stay near the planet, even after i released the tractor and put up my shields, the gunship kept flying near me, it felt like he was "magnetized". Every once in a while he'd bump into me and go shooting off, but he'd always come back. http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/littlebuddy.jpg Hey! Close that door, it's COLD in here!! http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/littlebuddy2.jpg
  9. SC: "Actually its a camera illusion. You are the one bobbing up/down. That naval carrier is not moving. You took that shot in between frames it looks like." Not sure if you are reffering to when I landed on the peak? that's when I got the "see-saw" effect, which was absolutely outstanding, it was the right physics for that scene, but it you are reffering to the naval craft sitting ontop of me...read here: The way it happened: I was lowering myself over the carrier, I wanted to make it look like I landed on it's deck ...I got too close and suddenly was underwater on the sea floor, and then I started to ascend when I touched the carrier from underneath it, it "bounced" way up in the air, and then it slowly floated down until you see the it coming to rest over the nose of my ship..." whatever the reason...it was pretty darn cool!! This is what I love about this "game" just being able to tool around and do stuff!! Next time I am going to try to deploy some of my troops to the deck of the carrier first. I have some questions about towing and what happened in different circumstances, and I'll post that later in newbies. I have some interesting observations.
  10. You called my Momma a What??? http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/ucalledmymommawhat.jpg Bring it on you navy p***ies http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/knocknock.jpg Take that (I shot them with my antigravity ray!) http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/levitatetrick1.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/levitatetrick2.jpg Okay okay, who messed with the antimatter coordinates! http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/fusion1.jpg Hey, you scratched my anchor! http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/fusion2.jpg
  11. More fun: Now I know this is a space shot but look at it any you'll see why it still has something to do with ground stuff: http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/heloinspace.jpg some funny observations: I towed this helo off the planet. Right after coming into space again, I put up my shields and the helo started to just float off on its own at about speed of 20. Then I towed it again and hyperspaced to Galcom HQ. I love how what you are towing stays behind until you finish your HD trip and then like a big rubberband.....stretchhhhhhhhh wam! its right next to you again, so then I raise sheilds and break the tow....3...2...1 booom the helo explodes. I just love the contract in scale when you bring your cruiser/carrier planetside. What this shot doesn't tell you is that while parked like this, the ship actual and slowly rocked like a seesaw back and forth...so cool. http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/peakparking.jpg I think I will continue to try the un-expected shots as long as folks are still interested.
  12. I have been having some fun stealing aircrafts and ships from the naval groups. I am going to see if I can get some NPC's to enter a blackghost and then go tow it and turn it upside down to see if anyone falls out... http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/hangontight.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/bottomofthelake.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~s.beaudrot/waterygrave.jpg So I was hoping to drop the blackghost and watch it bounce on the deck of the carrier, but as soon as I turn on my shields to break the tractor beam, they instantly hit sea floor. There are 2 aircraft on the bottom of the sea, and one is only showing the roof so it gives a nice effect of an "old wreck". I was originally trying to recreate a scene from close encounters, I wanted to tow a carrier and drop it in the middle of the dessert. I guess there is either a weight limit to what you can tow, or some objects are simply not allowed to be towed. If there is an easy way to edit an ini file let me know as I still wish to recreate the CCOTK scene that I described. I towed a scape worthy ship and when I dropped it, it gracefully floats do to the sea surface, so the game treats the objects different over water. This was my first attempt at messing around with these screen shots.
  13. The first time I added a posted here was when RC3/4 were out, now I have RC7. I must say that the "roleplaying" factor has really increased with the addition of the escorts. Playing a trader now seems like something I'd like to do. Getting a couple of guys on your team whether in space or on the ground really spices things up. The Afterburner/Retro and 1-9/0 keys are the perfect balance from old to new style. The 2 ways to play Roam are also welcome! I am looking forward to all the RC#'s that are coming as each blows away numerous issues, and strengthen a great foundation. Please keep the new elements coming in additon to the fixes! I finally setup my own website so I can start to add some interesting screen shots to the "postcards" section. Wife and kids are beginning to wonder why I am getting bags under my eyes from staying up late and playing.
  14. "...and the lack of training mode blows me away." err,,,what the heck did she think that Instant Action was for? [ 03-04-2004, 10:28 AM: Message edited by: Darkken Nightshade ]
  15. Technical: No problems. Technical Score: 50/100 Okay. So apparently her perfect score is a 50. Since this area with no problems only scored a 50 of 100. So I conclude that her overall score of 51 says that UC is beyond perfect and must actually be the best game she ever played!!
  16. I was going to get my map tatooed to my backside (insert joke about a planet starting with the letter "U" here) :0
  17. Maybe one way to do it is like some other programs that make you check the "I agree" box before the install/update will proceed. So a simple message pops up: "Your configuration may play this game but its unsupported for the following reason...etc." they check I agree, and then everything proceeds. This of course doesn't help when people still don't read, and it will cost many hours of effort to add that into the update or install process, but maybe you can kick the tires on thinking about it....
  18. I thought in the past that PC Gamer had a strict policy of reviewing games "as is" out of the retail box. I was just curious since I have not seen the review whether or not they mention if they applied any of the patches that came out so soon after they had their copy? Because if that remaining 25% is missing for issues related to things which were rectified so quickly, that tells us something about what their score could have been. I have seen them re-review games later in the "extended play" section if a patch comes out that make substantial changes...and i think they did this with BCM. Anyway just curious.
  19. i edited it, boy it was either pretty late or i was hitting the scotch myself. basicly there is a way to take any picture and tell your printer to make a poster out of it as big as you like.
  20. Almost any good printer will do a posterize print for you, I have never tried it but there is usually an advanced printing option buried in your driver (seen on HP's very often) and then you just say # x # of sheets and it will scale any jpg across that number. Some scotch tape and you are all set. If you don't have this, then forget the tape and just drink the scotch. In about an hour you won't care anymore [ 03-01-2004, 06:22 PM: Message edited by: Darkken Nightshade ]
  21. Has anyome ever created say a sightseeing list or guide to the galaxy? For instance I only sought out New America Base becuase I noticed it in a screenshot and said...hey where the heck is that? This post cards thread made me think that a great places to visit document would be awesome. Just a thought, inspired by those SC shots.
  22. I can't belive he actually admits to "not" reading the manual first and then complains that he doesn't know how to do anything. I am getting tired of the "steep learing curve" phrase. This game does has an intuitive interface that is less complicated then finding the admin tools in windows XP, I mean really give me a break. What's their baseline? every FPS that uses the sames exact keys for everything?? There are only 3 MFD's in this game and they are the same in every thing you can control yet you get no credit for that. Anyway, I guess he's entitles to his viewpoint, I just wish is had something more substantial in it.
  23. Give that guy a free copy of something!
