  1. Hey, saw a couple clips today. I'm of mixed opinion. Too WWF? Too slow? I'm not going to critique before I've seen the final result, but I'm thinking that the hallmark of both of these films was the stealthy aspect that built tension until it was released in the action scenes of the movie. If this ends up basically being a slugfest, I think I'll feel that one of the primary components of what made both of these characters cool has been underused.
  2. This is interesting, has anyone considered that it's a capacitor? Maybe the reason we're not seeing it is because the conditions whereby we would see the extra power are not present until you don't have the primary reactor helping you out.
  3. Hi Gammulan Imperial types. As the other fleets ramp up for multiplayer games and interfleet smack talk, I've not heard much from you guys lately. Is the Gammulan War Council planning some kind of secret offensive? Have the Gammulans finally succumbed to GALCOM's mediocre television programming and a diet including too many fattening snacks? Weren't you guys supposed to be the scourge of the universe? All I know is that in the SP game world, you guys own a lot more real estate than I think you could hold if we challenged you for it, so what are you going to do to get back on top?
  4. Something to consider when selecting a fleet is not just the availability of training for that fleet, but also the mission for that fleet. Wraith includes special operations, ISS includes CIOPS (espionage), and EarthCOM includes SCID, a special counter-Insurgent force. For that matter, the Devil's Hand raiders are sacking and pillaging where they may, and the Insurgents are GALCOM's number one threat. If you want to take on a rehabilitation project, consider joining the Gammulans, they're really underhanded right now. Any fleet will have senior members who can train you in multiplayer if nothing else, but I have to hand it to Prime that they are the ones who have to date done the best with their cadets because of all the fleets, they have been the most organized all around.
  5. Hey, who's out there from ISS? It's August now, Sound off!
  6. Well, in fairness, I threw in a few structural components of my own, but it was for clarity and simplicity. Did you have comments on the structural parts (victory conditions, objectives, etc.)?
  7. I've created documentation for the scenarios that Prime Fleet has been designing and for others who may want a format to design fleet scenarios in. I've created three documents. The first document is a general set of scenario rules which, for practical reasons related to the way the game works, are required for all scenarios. This document also includes scoring based on asset class which is at the time of this writing an ad hoc scoring system that seems to fit our needs. You may download the General Fleet Scenario Rules here. The second document is a template for designing scenarios that includes places for all the necessary information. Replace bracketed text with scenario details. Download the Fleet Scenario Template here. The third document is an example of the second document created with Prime's recently tested MP scenario, Operation Shuttle Strike. You can download it here. There are only a couple changes I would suggest. First, that variations on each scenario (Shuttle Strike has two) be detailed in separate documents with separate names for the sake of clarity. Second, that accomplishing the fleet objective adds experience to all of that fleet's commanders, and failing the objective subtracts experience from the fleet commanders. This encourages participation towards the overall goal and means that a commander can't slay four enemy ships, lose the fleet objective, and consider it was a good day. Conversely, a fleet might suffer some losses in the successful pursuit of its objective and count it a minor victory.
  8. Quite useful, good to finally meet everyone in person.
  9. Hey Guys, quick reminder, we need to come to a conclusion on this point so I can finish our website. Read the earlier posts on this thread, check out the images and sound off. Then I can put our logo up.
  10. Two comments: Firstly, regarding Remo's suggestion. I have for a while thought this would be the best option because right now we have a four fleets and we're kind of locked in a vicious cycle because people who join Prime because its academy will train them are going to stay in Prime, and as long as the other four fleets aren't getting that kind of recruiting, then there's no way for them to establish their own academies--so yes, I'm fully in favor of the idea you suggest Remo. Marvin, I realize that people are going to continue to ask, but I think that part of the reason people ask here as much as they do is because they have to conduct an entire search process to find the answers they want to what are essentially simple questions. What the FAQ (as you've seen it earlier) would do would essentially help people to get to that same information faster, and hopefully this will be a more efficient and user-friendly way of getting that information. Yes, they may ask after that, but I think fewer will ask, which is why I'm doing it.
  11. Yeah, I always thought that looked kind of cartoony though. This may be immaterial however since the CIOPS logo depends on what the fleet logo looks like. Once that matter is settled, then I can design the CIOPS logo appropriately.
  12. Hey Cedric, I don't see you in the fleet database. Are you listed there? I don't think we've cleaned it out since you left, but what wing were you in?
  13. You know, if they buy that license, they had better make a ZARKING GOOD GAME with it! I've had my frustrations with this game like any other newb-turned-addict, but for heaven's sake, it's like a DS-hating cult! If they actually managed to get the license and didn't turn out a better game than 3000AD, I'd be hacked off for no better reason than that their actions had been motivated by hatred rather than a desire for a better game.
  14. Glad to hear you found it. So I want to create a FAQ that locates those gazillion or so little things we all learned by executing searches through the forums here. The idea is to help newbs and trainees over the initial hump when it comes to game operations, and I figure that a FAQ like the one you've seen would be one of the easiest ways to do this. Also, I imagine we could create material there for training purposes, and I'm thinking of using (with your permission) Prime's training missions to create a self-paced Command Training curriculum based on a pass/fail model for any commanders who wanted to use it and gain some kind of "official" certification. Let me know what you think.
  15. Nice Report Reed! CIOPS has now opened a file on traitorous Vesperons and will continue to monitor this situation closely
  16. Nick's on vacation right now, are you caught up on your ISS Fleet Forum reading here? Good to have you back Cedric, where you been lately?
  17. To explain the torch: CIOPS is an intelligence gathering agency. We do stuff that's more like what you'd see in a movie like the Bourne Identity than like what you saw in Clear and Present Danger (with the infiltration team). The latter is what Wraith fleet does. The Torch is an emblem of knowledge, and also represents a night watchman since CIOPS operates in shadows and darkness to protect GALCOM. If it looks goofy then I'll go for a different torch graphic I think, but if you think the torch doesn't works at the level of a metaphor for the intel work, then I'm open to suggestions for another kind of emblem as long as it captures something about intelligence work (see the CIA shield for another example).
  18. That's an interesting thought, but this thread is getting off track, so back to the original question to my fellow fleet members. What designs do we want to use for our fleet emblems? I intentionally didn't create a defense wing logo since I'm not the wing leader for that wing, but if anyone wanted the graphic elements I used to create the other logos, I could send them (pm me if so).
  19. Doesn't go anywhere? That's wierd, I just checked it. Did it get you to the ISS Fleet HQ site? If it did, you should see a link called "Command Craft Operations" which would be one of perhaps several categories of FAQ answers. If you can't see the link or the site for some reason, please let me know. If you do, then have a look at the questions under the CC Ops, and you'll see kind of what I was shooting for. Thanks for giving us access to some of your academy materials. Part of what I'm doing right now with CIOPS is just getting information organized for GALCOM and ISS people, and that is a task that requires interested help, so if you have people in your fleet who are interested in doing intel work, then if you're interested in retasking them our door is open. If you have guys who aren't interested in participating, then I'm afraid I can't use them any more than you can. Thanks again for the feedback, ZM
  20. I've been operating under the assumption that while GALCOM has a suite of medals to cover various aspects of outstanding service, it doesn't seem beyond the pale for a fleet to design some commendations for its soldiers that are awarded and recognized only by those within that fleet. They might not be as "high" as the former kind, but it's something I think we're interested in for the purpose of adding special merits for outstanding performance in ISS-specific roles (e.g., a "special intelligence medal" or some such). Of course if we WERE to design images for existing game medals (I don't know if those designs already exist since I haven't gotten one yet in the game ), we would of course expect to submit them to SC and the fleets at large.
  21. Actually Medievh, I may have put too fine a point on it. Essentially as Ben and I have been emailing one another (and Nick's been in on these conversations excepting of course the last couple while he's been on vacation) our discussion has come to a fork in the road and we thought it best to submit both the existing and the recently submitted designs to the fleet to see what everyone liked. The idea now is that the fleet members weigh in and give us their two cents worth on which of the designs they prefer. Once this is settled, we can finish some of the graphics parts of the website, which otherwise is getting close to being finished.
  22. That's good for actual training when I have recruits, but as yet I have none. Since we're talking recruiting and I know you boys at Prime have them coming out your ears, have you thought about perhaps having your academy feed the other fleets in the interests of spreading our staffing out (if the cadets are so inclined)? You guys are doing the best job of training and procedures I've seen, and even if you didn't feed us any recruits, I'm sure I'd like to steal/adapt some of your documents for use in a FAQ and/or even an ISS version of the dash-1 manual you guys used. Let me know what you think. ZM out. p.s., you can see an example of what I'm thinking of for the FAQ here. [ 07-29-2004, 02:05 AM: Message edited by: Zane Marlowe ]
  23. Hey TinJaw, PM me your email address so I can send you a draft of a printer-friendly manual that I've been working on but have not as yet finished. It's about halfway done I think and it's in word document form with a table of contents, section and page breaks, etc. (i.e., it's a well-formatted doc.) I might be able to save you some time. ZM out.
  24. Hey friends. Ben Z. and I have been discussing some concepts for fleet images, and after some discussion we agreed to put some options out for alternate fleet imagery and see what you guys think. Thus far I've done a couple versions of the ISS Fleet Logo, and only one version of the CIOPS logo. All these have versions scaled to the size of the forums, and would be suitable for use on fleet documents and the fleet HQ website. First ISS Logo, with forum scale version. Second ISS Logo with forum scale version. CIOPS Logo with forum scale version. So the idea is to let us know what you think. Ben and I have been discussing the relative merits of the existing fleet logos (in the prior posts in this thread) versus some of these new concepts, and we ultimately agreed to put it to the fleet at large. Let us know what you think and we'll go forward from there. All the best, ZM out.
  25. Gentlemen of the fleets and interested players: CIOPS, GALCOM's premier intelligence service, has the following taskings that require staffing. 1. Compiling of a FAQ that will be used to answer common newb questions, and collect some of the most common strategies of UC gameplay. 2. Compiling data for online and offline versions of the appendix that can be searched and accessed in a hopefully superior form to the current appendix. Currently CIOPS has two members (including myself), and I want to see that grow. In addition to the listed taskings, which pertain to CIOPS non-classified objectives, there are additional classified taskings available for GALCOM members temporarily attached to CIOPS, or recruited CIOPS agents who are in for the duration. The shadow wars are preparing, join up now while the lines are still clear--tomorrow you may not know your friends from your enemies. ZM out.
