  1. Holy $h!t! You o/ced to 2.4ghz?!? That's amazing...those Mobile chips must have a lot of headroom.
  2. Like they say do a search. Do yourself a favour, and follow the S/Cs "suggestion" to download the manual appendix, addendum, and VCF from the downloads page. Also, patch up to the latest patch. Trust me, this all makes more sense if you're patched to the latest level and have read ALL the doicumentation - many changes were made after the manual was printed.
  3. This looks like one kick-ass card, from all appearances that fixed all the problems that caused the FX series to not live up to the promise of their high bandwidth specs. I don't know if I want to spend cdn$750 on a video adapter though. On the bright side, they should be discounting the FX5950 shortly after it gets released to market.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Fox__Trot: if its a radeon 9200 card it's basicly as fast as the g4 ti4200 (I think) with newer features and dx 9 support The GF4200 is about 60% faster than the R9200. The R9200 is on about the same level as the FX5200 (non-ultra), my FX5200 (Ultra) is about halfway between the GF4200 and the R9200. Still, the price on the 9200 is very reasonable.
  5. StarRider, if you're criticizing my criticism I'm not comparing anything, just making a statement. My first thought was it was hard to discriminate targets from the background especially at a distance - that's the essence of my "graphics could be better". From what I've seen of the space-combat scenes, this isn't nearly as much of a criticism but in the cluttered terrain of a planet, especially when dealing with an AI as sharp as the one in UC, you don't need confusion due to the graphics. To enumerate: 1) Perspective is a little too artificial, for lack of a better word. It's hard to judge range, and everything gets blocky at distant ranges. (the aformentioned tag doesn't help) 1a) The hud radar display clusters all targets on a plane which you view from it's edge. This compounds the problem above. (A more conventional top-down display that shows the targets around you and their ranges would be less confusing) 2) More high res textures would improve the look tremendously. Again, not a criticism just a comment - I know why Derek doesn't go for the "flash". 3) It's hard to pick up items off the ground because they blend in too well. (I noticed when I was using the gunship, that dead marines appeared to drop things like rocket launchers, but I was unable to confirm this because I could never find anything despite occasionally seeing them displayed on the hud. I don't know if you actually can pick things up at this point)
  6. If no public servers are online, you have to start your own. (UC manual, p.91)
  7. So far I've played three IA's, and I'm having a blast! Finally an AI that challenges you, rather than boring you. Graphics could be better, but I fully understand the reason behind the design decision. Mostly, I've been playing in FPS mode - reasoning that this would be simpler than trying to grab the bull by the tail and control it was frustrated quite a bit b/c "G" to designate targets didn't seem to work (I'm running RC7) and I didn't find out about the TOM or the PLV until I discovered them in the manual addendum. N00bs take note: When the S/C says to read ALL of the material, manuals, addendums, appendixes, and thr VCF - he's not just whistling dixie: these four together are an amazingly concise reference for the game. Most of my questions about playing the game are answered there. One comment about FPS mode: approaching the supply station, the AE would automatically stoop to crouch mode and I would have to back off and jump to stand again. Not a show-stopper, but vaguely annoying. Also, the tags in the hud over each marine/OC in your view in many cases obscure the target making it difficult to target using the rifle; imo it would be better if this was placed over the head of the marine, instead of across the model. Once I have the TOM and TACOPS figured out, I'm going to have a blast with this! Looking forward to roam as a commander... Oh, and on that note; here's the video card to plan on buying for UC:E2E: NVidia 6800
  8. First thing I did when I registered here was download the VCF, appendix, and the RC7 patch, SC.
  9. Have mercy on a n00b. I've just bought UC about 4 days ago, and I've been interested in BC3K for years. In fact, I played the very first demo DS released many years ago - exactly once. However, the opportunity to buy never really presented itself until recently. I'm glad I did, the ai is impressive, and I know I'll enjoy it just from reading many of the posts here. I gather from what I've read here it's still worthwhile buying BCMG? I'm pretty sure the same place I bought UC has a copy, and I just might cough up for that too, if it is a sufficiently different game. (especially since it looks like modding for UC is stillborn, and BCMG has GBS II) Anyways, I'm only halfway through the manual and I've only played a couple of instant actions to familiarize myself with the controls so I'll likely be quiet a bit longer while I scarf up the contents of these very insightful forums. Until next time...
