  1. I could imagine, game engines all having real life physics stats incorporated into them. The designer just plugs in what material type his/her models are made of, and the rest is calculated. The physics are already there, no need to (redesign) them. Objects in game could be realy open to interaction, and behave so much more like the real thing.
  2. I love my apartment. It is in the middle of town, but has a nice creek behind it, lots of trees and wildlife. My miniature padio/balconie, 4x7, is my thinkin spot. I have crammed it with many plants. Wheat grass, Rye grass, Bamboo, Sage brush, Yellow sage, Vine maple, Cannibu... um never mind. And my shiny brass tank shell where i put my ciggarettes. I would imagine it is the only one in the city. Others,, -My rabbit -My fossil and artifact collection -My design studio -My thoughts
  3. RgR, I see. But think of this. I can find center of gavity of any of my solid models. If you plug in a material density say plastic versus steel, you can have that object act accordingly. Or in other words, you can have real accurate physics. Say you fire a shot and it hits a model, a predetermined chunk of that model blows apart. Like an artillery shell hitting a road. Now you have an altered model. Just plug in some kinda algorithm, to determine a range of sizes of chunks to come apart. And that rubble is still left sitting around. And you could pick up one of the chunks and throw it, and it still feels and flys like a chunk of the origonal rubble. I guess what im saying, without knowing game programming to well, is that i think that solid models would be easier to mess around with than surfaces. Less things to keep track of, and you can plug in real physics quite easy. Another thing is, accuracy. I can make the solid models accurate down to .0005 of an inch if need be. Model an M1 tank, and that model is real damn true to life. [ 05-03-2004, 06:03 PM: Message edited by: Stimpson ]
  4. Hi, im curious. I just came across something on gaming news, can't remember where, but breifly scanning it, it was talking about solid models being used in games instead of just surface models. Now bear with me. I do CADD and lots of solid modeling. Im just out of school and i dont have tremendous knowledge of gaming, but im wondering if infact solid modeling will be the next step in computer gaming, if not already. I use Autocadd and inventor, and the dxf format is kinda the standard file type that speaks to all of them. Would this possibly be a usefull skill if i wanted to get into the gaming industry in the future? I also sketch alot, and put those ideas into CADD models quite often. Any thoughts on this from you experts?
  5. Yes i upgraded memory to 360 something Cuz i do intense CADD solid modeling. (Thats RAM) I will look for the nvidia 32 meg variety. I think the upgrade should help my CADD as well. Thank very much.
  6. Its a Dell Dimension L667r from the year 2000. You are free to email me if this is too much to put on this forum.
  7. Its a pentium 3 and something like 641 mghz i believe. Im not too knowledgable in this department however. Not sure how or if i could upgrade this.
  8. Eh?? There is hope?? Im in Salem Oregon. There is a EB store here. What do you suggest i get? By the way, i downloaded the latest driver for my intell graphics card, and i do have nice graphics now, however, the game still crashes
  9. Well, that isnt an option. I dont make enough money to spend 300 bucks on graphics cards. Oh well. Take it easy.
  10. "If you have an Intel i810 video board : Get rid of it. Rule of thumb: Older on-board video/audio chipsets are not likely to work" I see that mine is a IntellĀ® 82810E graphics controller. Memory Size 4MB Could this be my problem?
  11. Ok, First im going to read this part of the forum thoroughly, then im going to reinstall my game. Then, im going to reinstall the 1.09.01 patch into the (Battlecruiser Millenium) folder and activate it. Then Im going to try to dig up all the stats on my pc that i can think of. I was just not sure which version i had. Lemmie try this again. Only then will i post again if i have not found the answer. Thanks guys!
  12. This is Battlecruiser Millennium. The blue cover. I open a notepad folder(bcsetup) in the game folder and it says version 1.00.00 up there. Actually now that i put the patch in its says version 1.09.01 Otherwise, i dont know how to find what version this is. I believe i posted as many stats as i could find about my pc when i got signed up here, so if you identify another reason why this game crashes please tell me. Im sorry if this topic has been covered before, but i have spent much time looking for reasons why the game crashes before asking for help. Im realy itching to play this game and get involved here, but if (my version is not supported anymore), id like to know what version is the latest greatest, and where to get it. My local EBstore doesnt carry it, so i would like to order it from you if i can, that is if my pc is not too outdated. Thanks so much for your help. After putting in the patch. It still crashes to desktop. Ive even lowered the graphics settings in the game, still no solution. Please dont kick me off, i just need a little direction.
  13. Hi, ive done a considerable amount of looking and reading before posting this, and i did a forum search for (version 1.00.00) I believe i have this version. Is this one that is unsupported here? Am i SOL on this one? I tried to get patched from those sites, and that took a long time to get one to give it up. Finally i went ahead and down loaded the 1.09 and still my game crashes straight to desktop. I have directx9.ob and a sufficient PC, no other games give me problems, so im trying to weed out the possibillities. Please help me. Is there a newer version of this game available in my area? I'm at a loss. I tried getting my drivers updated and believe they are as updated as they are gonna get.
  14. Hello everyone. This is my very first post. I am 32. Born and raised in Montana. Fled that oppressive state at age 21 and set up shop here in Oregon. Currently 90% finished with my mechanical design degree, however, i walked away from that school in total disgust. Looking for work, and teaching myself what the slacker profs. couldnt. I also study industrial design, and currently am working on several products to be manufactured and sold in the western states. That consumes most of my time basically, so i dont do much else. I do a lot of solid modeling with CADD, create blueprints, contact suppliers and manufacturers, design calculations etc. If i find time, i enjoy, archeology excursions to the eastern oregon desert, and nature trips to the western oregon rain forests. I hike, fish, shoot, scuba, listen to industrial and electronic music as well as metal, classic rock, and reggae. And when im not doing all of that im flirting with my woman.
