  1. the modding tools are kind of odd.

    PTEStudio documentation says:

"PTEstudio is the tool used to create and edit planetary mission zones, scenes

    etc. "

Then at the end it says:

"DO NOT!! mess around with the map editors in the Editor menu. If you do, you WILL

screw up the INI files and invalidate the game environment!!"

So you can use it to explore the planets And it works pretty well for this. But if you try to use it as a modding tool to edit planets you will change the INI files and break the game. The INI files in the /data directory are all locked in a way that the game will crash if changed. So even using the editing tools that come with the game will break it? Sadly I haven't had much time to work on this puzzle.

  2. I know you can't edit the files in the data directory of the game. Unfortunately that's the information I would like to.

I tried copying the files to the mods directory and editing them there to see if the game would read those and accept those edits but had no luck.

My next attempt will be to read more about mission/campaign scripting to see if it's possible to change any of that information there (for that campaign only).

Modifications I would like to make would be to:

Edit or create new gear load outs for the AE in First person mode. Like a heavy combat Commander load out and other ideas I had.

Edit first person weapon stats. Some seem odd (I think I saw an assault rifle with more range than a sniper rifle). Also, I'd like to experiment with all around range reduction to make combat more close quarters. say limit max range to 1000 for snipers, 500 for assault rifles and go down from there (rocket launchers seemed about right though).

I haven't messed around in space enough to know what I'd like to play with in that area yet.

Someone kill my dreams if I can't do this stuff or throw me a bone if they know what direction I should go in. Otherwise I'll keep at it and report any results.

  3. I'm finally getting the basics down and getting a hang of things in the game. It's definitely more simulation than game! To answer my own questions:

    1. All the electronic documents are in the game install directory. There is a lot of useful information and I've probably only read a third of it so far. The manual and game commands sheet that come with the boxed game are pretty much required reading/reference material. If there's a quick reference sheet with all the acronyms like DIE,TLM,NID,etc. and what they do, I need it! Trying to figure out one in the manual requires already understanding the other two or three used to explain it.

    2. In order to get started I made a Roam campaign and figured out the basic commands. Then figured out how to move my AE to a shuttle, launch it and land the shuttle on a planet to mess with first person mode. After that I jumped into a couple Instant Action games and finally started to have fun. I think I'd recommend new players just jump right into Instant Action and just pause to use the manual as a reference while trying to figure something out.

So far the game is growing on me.

  4. Hello,

I'm trying to update my game to this patch version and having difficulties. I installed the game off the DVD and ran the updater. The updater says "error file not found, no updates found on server" when I run it. So I downloaded patches v1.00.03.01 through v1.00.04.01 and manually installed them in order from the game directory (as described on the website).

The game successfully patched up to v1.00.04. Unfortunately I get an error when I try to run the v1.00.04.01 patch. "NSIS Error: The installer you are trying to run is corrupted or incomplete...." I've downloaded this patch from the 3000AD website and several mirrors. All get the same error and all are 12.3 MB in size.

Not sure why the updater isn't working (I made sure it wasn't blocked by my firewall).

Not sure whether the patch file is corrupt or if there's any other problem on my end. I'm guessing if it wasn't on my end I wouldn't be the only person asking stupid questions here :)

Thanks in advance for any help.

  5. ditto. Looks like a lot of interesting mods on here are no longer available. Would someone who still has this (Grizzle, if you're still around) be willing to put this up on another file share service and give us a link? This sounds interesting.

    thanks,

    Moonracer

  6. As a soon to be new player here and avid tweaker/modder of games I play, I am curious as to what can (and should/shouldn't) be done to the UC game world.

    1. Is there any sort of exchange of mods/scripts for the game elsewhere? I noticed a few interesting looking mods in this forum but all seem to be over a year old and no longer available on the file share services they were hosted on. If not, would players who've made mods and are still active here mind putting stuff they've made back up for us new recruits :lol2:

    2. will mods/scripts from older game builds work with UCCE okay or should I only use ones built for that version? Assuming I find any.

    3. Are there any mods/tweaks to the game that experienced players would recommend I make? (even just for fun)

    4. Are there any helpful modding tutorials on the web for this game? I saw a couple scripting tips in this forum which will help get me started.

Thank you for any information. I hope to soon be an active and supportive member of this community.

  7. I just ordered UCCE and have been lurking through the forum and 300AD website looking for information while waiting for the game to arrive in the mail. I thought I'd ask a couple questions here and hopefully other new players could get the answers here as well.

    1. I read that there are some online documents for the game but I have not found them. In particular I heard about a lengthly FAQ, which seems like a terrific place for me to start. Is that available on the web or is it included on the game disk? Same goes for any other documents. If they aren't on the disk, where might I find them?

    2. For a new player, what would be the best recommended way to jump into the game and get used to the main features? I'm guessing the free Roam game will allow the most flexibility to experiment with different aspects of the game. Would people recommend the campaigns or scenarios more?

    3. How hard are the Campaigns? Am I going to have to know every element of the game first or can I learn as I go along and make mistakes?

I'm really excited about finally getting to play this game! I'm glad to see that it is still around and improvements have been made over the years. I hope that word gets out about the Collectors edition (I admittedly found it by accident). I'm sure there are others like myself who held off buying the first release because of bad reviews and forgot about the game but are willing to give it a chance now.
