PRIME FLEET members, read!

Recommended Posts

Ummm... OK just one more idea, and then I promise to be quiet and wait to hear if I've been promoted. wink.gif

Each fleet currently has a station, ORION, ISS, WRAITH, and SPECTRE all have a station at their disposal.

Prime has three stations. I vote that until we get some info on additional stations, we assign our wings to those stations, perhaps as follows:

Alpha and Beta Wings: Galcom HQ

Gamma Wing: Genesis Station

Delta and Epsilon Wings: Starpath Station

With BC:M comes more stations, so we can spread out more once that's been released.

"we have to take into account the actual number of participants there are likely to be for multiplayer encounters.

Every fleet in the game has hundreds of members, but only really has a handful of participating members within. When BC:M comes along, this will change but the numbers of players being able to participate on a given server are going to be limited."

That's right, thats why a 5-ship squadron sounds great... you can have 2 teams and 6 non-aligned (read:traders, raiders, etc) players. When a fleet does an operation at the squadron level, it will be the Squadron Commanders that decide the strategy of their own teams. If there are to be no non-aligned players then the teams can decide to have 8 players on each side.. with the extra 3 players per squadron being reinforcments from another squadron. The imagination is the limit.

Once again, I refer back to my old Longbow 2 squadron.. the game allowed 8 players max but in reality it was only 4 (unless all players had cable modems). So each time opposing entities (say, the 101st Airborne Division and the Wolf Mercenary Inc.) decided to duke it out, they would send 2 of their pilots to fight it out against 2 from the other team. Winner took a pic of the end score board and showed it as proof.

As far as Time Zones and schedules, that problem takes care of itself... players will band together in a Squadron composed of others with compatible schedules.

One thing though: Fleet Commanders, do not assume you can control your fleet. The real leaders will be the Squadron Leaders, as they will be the ones to set up the times when their squadron meets and how they play. Wing Commanders would be responsible for maintaining the comunication between the squadrons under them as well as assigning missions (read: what other team they fight against or with), Division Cmdrs (if ever introduced) would be in charge of Training people (and keeping the scores of the battles waged), and the Fleet Commander should be the one to make fleet-wide decisions as to who may join the fleet and where to put them and/or kick them out if neccesary as well as setting out the guidelines for the fleet and their modus operandi.

Hey Chief!! First time's a charm eh? *wicked grin*

Yes, assigning wings to stations is a good idea.

There are new stations in BCM but I'm not releasing any information at this time.

Only problem is, we only have nine or so members in the ISS, and combining them all into one squadron would be difficult because there are two broad areas of speciality in the ISS.

Certainly we could have two squadrons made up of 4-5 members each.

Does this present a problem?

Reporting.

I think we'd need to wait until we have at least a thousand Prime members before we divide it into divisions (as you'd see below).

My ideas for wing/squadron structure:

--------------------------------------------------

General wing/squadron structure:

First, you have the wing. Each squadron within the wing would be given a "primary role" (reserve, reconnaissance, etc.). The number of squadrons per wing is dependent on how many primary roles there are. The number of members per squadron is also dependent on how many "sub roles" there are. For example, let's say that the primary role for a squadron is reconnaissance. One sub role would be info gathering, and another sub role would be info transmitting (say between the info gatherer and the fleet headquarters). I don't know how many primary roles there are so the total number of units per wing could vary greatly.

--------------------------------------------------

Wing/Squadron names:

As for the names of wings and squadrons you could have:

's reserve squadron

--------------------------------------------------

Wing/Squadron personnel structure:

Wing/Command squadron leader

The signature:

Cmdr Gordon Striker

GCV-

Cmdr: Omega Wing's Command Squadron

Prime Fleet

Vice wing/command squadron leader

The signature:

Cmdr Mark Karynia

GCV-

Vice cmdr: Omega Wing's Command Squadron

Prime Fleet

Squadron leader

The signature:

Cmdr Ross Bane

GCV-

Cmdr: Omega Wing's Reconnaissance Squadron

Prime Fleet

Vice squadron leader

The signature:

Cmdr Dane Murdock

GCV-

Vice cmdr: Omega Wing's Reconnaissance Squadron

Prime Fleet

Squadron member

The signature:

Cmdr Travis Thorson

GCV-

Omega Wing's Reconnaissance Squadron

Prime Fleet

--------------------------------------------------

Wing/Squadron development structure:

Since only about 3% of all Prime members are "active", we can't just create nine wings, assign all 440 members to them, and expect ALL of them to be dependable. In order to start a wing, you'd need a full size command squadron, e.g., 1 Wing/Command squadron leader, 1 Vice Wing/Command squadron leader, 1 Squadron leader and Vice squadron leader for each primary role (except the squadron command role), and at least 1 other member within each of those squadrons. So the max. amount of members allowed in the command squadron would also be the min.

If you wanted to start a second wing, then the first wing would need to be "full". You (the administrators and fleet commanders) would have to transfer the members (that want to start the second wing) from the first wing to the second wing. If there are not enough people, you'd have to ask other people if they want to join that second wing or wait for more people to register.

--------------------------------------------------

Well, those are my ideas about wing/squadron structure.

De Sylva: Once MP is out, the fleets will beef up like a suicidal cow that wants to be sent to the slaughterhouse. (dont ask me where I got that expression).

Active players will make it their priority to find other active players within the fleet and they will want to be put in the same squadron. The ISS will become huuuuuge I betcha!

Well, our Fleet Commander says we're going with 9 ship squadrons, so let's go with that.

My vote is to keep the number of squadrons per wing at one until we have at least three wings; one for each station. That means we need 27 active ships to be at full strength. So far, 10 Commanders have reported in, plus the Fleet Commander, and the Supreme Commander.

Once each of the Wings has one full squadron, we can assign more squadrons to them as enrollment permits.

I agree that the wing commanders should assign certain squadrons as specialist squadrons, but not all of them. Most of our squadrons will probably have the job of patrolling set areas.

I think our first priority should be to get Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Wings up to their full one squadron strength of 9 ships each.

Let's get this show on the road! > LetLet's...

*Ahem*

Sorry, got a bit carried away.

DeSylva: As Tac stated - MP will sort the entire mess out; active/inactive members.

Tac: You really sure about that "... real leaders will be Squadron Leaders ..." (aka Wing Leaders for some Fleet(s) wink.gif

This is just one idea, for the whole concept is open to discussion. For numbering reasons it would be best not to make them bigger than 9 ships. But if tactics (or too few players) ask for smaller squads for special purposes, that should be no problem.

Btw., I am sorry that I did not find the time to post the concept yet. Yesterday was my 30th birthday and therefore, I did not have that much time the last few evenings (and I am still tired this exact moment, heheh). wink.gif

On last thing: IMHO we should differ between the roleplaying aspects of the fleets (where all the surrounding actions are planned, and played in the "make-belive" way) and the squad like play of BC:M and the following titles. We have to wait until Battlecruiser Online to play the full scale Fleet game (with player all over the world living in different time zones, ack).

At this point, I'll only volunteer for a Staff slot, as I'm not as active as I'd like (I'll have V2.09 by the end of the month, as soon as I find a shop that has it in.)

Here now the roleplaying version of the Prime Fleet Structure (to be discussed) - sorry it took somewhat longer:

SQUADRONS

Attack Squadron (up to 9 ships), example:

2 Reconnaisance

2 Flanks

3 Attack

1 Command, carrying Squadron Commander (denoted x6) aboard

1 Reserve (defends Command), carrying 2nd Squadron Commander aboard

Defense: three tasks

(a) Guarding (observe): 2 Reconnaisance / Patrol

(B) Secure: stationed, i.e. not mobile, including mine fields

© (active) Defense: at least half the attacker ships

Note: we need at least one squadron (9 ships) for each "jump point" to fulfill jobs (a) and (B). Mine fields must be defended, otherwise they are useless.

(RPG note: the Squadron Commanders would be called 16 to 86 within their wing. For BC:M purposes, we need at least one full squadron at any time!)

WINGS

A Wing consists of eight squadrons. Altogehter 72 ships plus Staff:

Sx1 Personnel

Sx2 Security / Intelligence

Sx3 Tactics (XO)

Sx4 Logistics

Sx5 Staff Chief (2nd in Command)

Sx6 Wing Commander

The "x" denotes the number of the Wing, depending on its task. For ex.: alpha 1, beta 2, and so on. This way the Alpha Wing Commander would be called S16.

S1 and S4 work together. S2 and S3 work together. Those roles can be combined in times of low personnel.

Note: eight squadrons means seven squadrons plus one reserve squadron. The Wing Staff resides on one of the ships in the reserve.

(RPG note: at least four people are needed for one Wing Staff)

FLEET

The Prime Fleet consists of five wings. Altogether 360 ships plus Staff (plus some extra squadrons, around 400 ships total):

G1 Personnel

G2 Security / Intelligence

G3 Tactics (XO)

G4 Logistics

G5 Public Relations

-- Staff Chief (2nd in Command)

G6 Fleet Commander

As in the wings, G1 and G4 work together. G2 and G3 work together.

Those roles can be combined in times of low personnel.

Also, G5 and the Staff Chief are two jobs who can be done by one person.

OTOH the Fleet Commander and the Staff Chief must be never together in one location (or ship).

Note: again five means four wings plus one reserve wing. This way the whole Fleet can operate in four areas, and there is still a complete wing available.

There is one squadron assigned to the Fleet. Its main task is to protect the Fleet Staff ship(s). Some other squadrons are to be assigned to protect the support fleet (under command of the G4).

(RPG note: at least four people are needed for the Fleet Staff. Those people should not be Wing or even Squadron Commanders, but should have their own Ship. They use it as "guests" in case of need.)

I want to discuss this with you people before we start to assign Commanders to certain positions...

Regards.

Looks great!

Since we can't be both, I'll state my preference as Wing Commander, but I'll do any job you've got for me.

Question:

Will you be creating all five Wings immediately, or one at a time as we have active members to fill them?

Badgerius,

as mentioned somewhere above, all the real fun is with the squadron leaders, heh.

Nevertheless, there are a lot of opportunities for you:

-> G5 Staff Chief and Public Relations: you can manage them both.

-> G2/G3 Security/Intelligence and/or Tactics (XO) - IMHO the most difficult job of all!

-> S16 Alpha Wing Commander

-> G4/G1 Logistics and/or Personnel

Just tell me your favorite. This goes for all the other volunteers as well (!), please tell me your favorite position, and we will work something out. As usual: if I do not hear from you (who already have volunteered), you will be assigned to a position by me. smile.gif

Btw., I would like to set up one Wing, and one Squadron first, filling the rest as we get more active people. But if you guys all would like a Wing Commander assignment, who am I to deny it? wink.gif

Tom, you need to take into account the other GALCOM forces, such as the orbital battalion etc. Work these into your structure because they are under Prime Fleet command.

Huh, I thought both the 15th Space Marine Battalion, and the 7th Orbital Marine Battalion were under ISS Fleet command. Well, nevertheless, all the Prime Fleet Ground Forces together build either a Brigade, or a Division (or even greater). Thus it should be no problem for the existing forces to be included. smile.gif

I would be interested in either the Sx1 (Personnel) or the Sx3 (Tactics) staff positions.

Wouldn't it make a little more sense to use Sxx for the squadron flag staff, Wxx for the Wing flag staff and Fxx for the Fleet staff?

There are no Squad Staffs, look at the structure again. The letters Sxy and Gxy are not from me - they are from the military. I just borrowed their structure. wink.gif

If you really want to be part of a Wing Staff, and not the Fleet Staff, please wait a few days. I want to assign people top down, and it is up to the Wing Commanders to assign their Wing Staffs. OTOH the G1/G4 position(s) is available, if you want it.

Sure, following positions are assigned until further notice:

S36 Commander, Gamma Wing - Cmdr. Badgerius

G1 Personnel (and G4 Logistics) - Cmdr. Robertson (a.k.a. Neath Southern Skies)

G2 Security/Intelligence, and G3 Tactics - Cmdr. Maxamillian (MAX)

The following commanders have reported in (in the GALCOM role call thread, or here) and are yet unsassigned, in no special order:

Cmdr. Tarsus Wren (a.k.a. kwasi)

Cmdr. Mark Giao (a.k.a. SpcFX)

Cmdr. Robert Martin (a.k.a. Rm)

Cmdr. Paul Slade

Cmdr. Lynx Pherret

Cmdr. Rico 'V_ger' Jansen

Cmdr. Parker (a.k.a. Firehawk)

Cmdr. Kirk Stryker

Cmdr. Jason Cloud (a.k.a. Papi)

Cmdr. Kurt Meyer

Cmdr. Mark Sharmen

Cmdr. Hugo Pinheiro

Total: 15 Commanders.

Gentlemen, I expect you to tell me your favorite position until the end of this month (Feb.)! Otherwise you will find yourself assigned, as Fleet Staff sees fit. Cmdr. Robertson (G1), any proposals from your office?

Btw., the Staff Chief position, i.e. 2nd in Fleet Command, is still free! wink.gif

As proposed by Cmdr. Badgerius, our five Wings are "stationed" as follows:

Galcom HQ: Alpha Wing, Beta Wing

Genesis: Gamma Wing

Starpath: Delta Wing, Epsilon Wing

Noone wanted to discuss the Fleet Structure (or had any objectives, that is, heheh), therefore the next project will be the Prime Fleet Web Site. I try to set up a rough outline, and fill in some information. The project, once up and running, will then go to the G5 Public Relations Office... wink.gif

I've had a thought concerning the squadron sizes.

As it stands now, we have a squadron size of 9. This is just fine and dandy for the RPing end of it, but it kind of messes with the actual Multiplayer parts. BC:M has a maximum number of players per server of 16, which means, if we are playing against anyone, we'll only have 8 slots per game. So, one person per squadron will be left out.

So, I propose we change to 8 ships per squadron, including the squadron commander. That way, we can put two full squadrons into an MP game of BC:M.

What do you think?
