Badgerius
I've opened this thread so we can keep track of news related specifically to Prime Fleet's Gamma Wing.Well boys and girls, it's time to get down to business. I've been given command of Prime Fleet's first operational wing, and I have need of every able bodied commander I can get my hands on.A little background on what Gamma Wing is: As a wing under the direct command of Prime Fleet, Gamma Wing is a generalist wing. We do everything: patrols, exploration, diplomatic escorts, raids, invasions, defence, recon, sabre rattling, and showing the flag. Members of Gamma Wing will be called upon to do everything from mining to minelaying. Also, because our home station is Genesis in lunar orbit, rather than GalcomHQ, there is a little less brass around. That means that there'll be a little less spit and polish, and a bit more elbow grease. So SIGN UP with Gamma Wing!!! This is your chance to have fun and see some combat with a team of trusted comrades at your back to back you up. The emphasis will be on teamwork at the squadron level, and having a good time in the process. The following positions are currently open in Gamma Wing. As these fill up, I will open up other positions. All are welcome: veterans, newbies, and lurkers alike.Gamma Wing Head of Intel and Security: Head of my intelligence group. You will be able to command a small group of intelligence gatherers. More details available upon acceptance of the position2nd Squadron members: Just want to play games with a team and have fun? Want to kick Gammulan and Insurgent butt without the mantle of responsibility of a squadron command or staff position? This is for you. I'd like to get at least three commanders in here before opening up a second squadron. That's four (4) ships per squadron to start.Note: As these positions fill up, I will make other positions available. If you are already in a position, and wish to change, no problem! Simply find a replacement to take over your position and I will grant the transfer. So Join up with Gamma Wing today! ------------------ Commander S. EricR
I believe that I am assigned to your Wing. Unfortunately, I don't have very much spare time (wife, baby, wife, and wife), so I doubt I would be a good squadron commander. I also hope that I won't be court martialed for being AWOL during an important mission. Please use your discretion in assigning me a position. How about Prime Fleet General Counsel? That way if we get attacked by Rattler, I can file a lawsuit for trespass. If a ship gets destroyed, we'll sue for wrongfull death and emotional distress. If the judgment is high enough, we'll foreclose on New America. We might not even have to fire a shot Eric

Badgerius
LOL!Welcome aboard, Eric. I know what you mean about spare time, so don't worry about that. I'd like to get some chat sessions, and eventually, some MP games going, so if you let me know your time zone, I'll try and schedule things so that there's a chance you'll be up. You are formally assigned as a member of Gamma Wing, 1st squadron. See Rico Jansen's posts as an example of how to format your sig. ------------------ Commander S. Guest Remo Williams
I was ordered to report here to Commander Badgerius for assighnment. I would be honored to serve as a member of 1st Squadron. If a position is still availible. Badgerius
Well, the SC is talking about having wing logos, and I thought I'd post my idea for a logo here first to get some feedback. Let me know what you think. www.geocities.com/badgerius/gammawinglogo.gif Cmdr Williams, there are two positions available in 1st Squadron: a member position, and a Squadron Commander's position. Take your pick. OK, we've got enough people, let's try and get together. I'll start the ball rolling by suggesting Saturdays at 6:00 pm (1800 hours) GMT. That's 10am PST, 1pm EST, and 7pm for Rico. We'd meet in the Galcom world in Active Worlds. How is this time for you guys?------------------ Commander S. Rico Jansen
Hmmm, that logo? Doesn't it look a bit like NATO? I mean, I don't really have a better idea, so I ought to keep my mouth shut. But I'm not really into mosaic logo's. Doesn't really say anything to me. ... Hmm? ... We're stationed at station Genesis at the Moon. We're Gamma wing, Prime fleet. .... Well, I guess you're right. Kinda difficult to find a common denominator symbol for that. Well, just my two cents.BTW? Do we have any special tasks for our wing or squadron? Maybe that could help us find a logo (and maybe motto). As for chat at 6pm GMT. Sound good, I guess. But I'll have to reserve the comp for it. But that usually is not a problem. And Activeworlds shouldn't really prevent it either. But their support dep. and me are in the process of solving a problem with AW on my system. I can chat and move all over like anyone else. But I don't see the nice buildings yet. Texture and stuff doesnt get send over somehow. Just the centerpoint of the objects and the chat text. But no buildings are ignorable, I'm sure.------------------ Cmdr. Badgerius
Oops, that does look a lot like the NATO logo, doesn't it? I'm afraid that Gamma Wing is a generalist Wing, so that doesn't help us to find a logo. If there are any artists in the Wing who wish to put forward a logo, post it here.------------------ Commander S. Guest Remo Williams
Commander Bagerius I think that I will choose to just be a member of 1st Squadron at this time until I get a little more exp. under my belt. I've only been at bc3k for about a year and there is still alot for me to learn before I take on a command postion. The chat session at Galcom World sounds great and I,ll be there at the appointed time.------------------ Remo Williams GCV-Lexington Prime Fleet
Badgerius
Welcome, Cmdr Williams. Please adjust your sig to reflect your assignment to 1st squadron. The Current Gamma Wing roster is as follows:Gamma Wing Cmdr: Badgerius Chief of Staff: Kirk Stryker Head of Security/Intel: Available1st Squadron Commander: Available 1st Squadron Members: Rico Jansen Cmdr. Eric Remo WilliamsIf we get another person requesting to be in 1st squadron, I'll give the four of you a week to pick which one is the squadron commander. The squadron commander can then choose a name for the squadron. If you haven't chosen a Squadron Commander after a week, I will assign one of you to the position. For the chat session this Saturday, I'd like to find out if there is an MP game that we all own, so that 1st squadron can begin training as a team. (Let's face it guys, we're outnumbered by the Insurgents almost 3-2, we're going to need to work together) So for the chat, have a list of MP capable game you own handy.Reminder: the chat session is at the Galcom World, not at the Commander's village on Mars. I prefer the uniforms in Galcom world to the tacky tourist Avatar of Mars.------------------ Commander S. Guest Kirk Stryker
Okay, I've thought this through and, although I've already said that I will take these responsibilities, my (rather irregular) schedule says otherwise. To take my place, I recommend Commander Mark Sharmen. As for my new position, I'd like to move all the way down the command chain to the bottom: a member of Gamma Wing's first squadron. That is the position that I'm most comfortable with, and where I think that my talents and skills can be used most effectively.Kirk [This message has been edited by Kirk Stryker (edited 03-02-2000).]
Badgerius
Kirk, your re-assignment will be confirmed upon Commander Sharmen's reporting in.As soon as that happens, the members of 1st squadron will have one week to choose a Squadron Commander from among them.Cmdr. Sharmen, please report in here with your acceptance of the Chief of Staff position and your time zone.------------------ Commander S. Guest Ron Wallin
Badgerius, the use of in game names is illegal. Specifically, Kirk Stryker, is an example. Stryker is a name you should all know of from the manual.Kirk, you will have to create a new online profile. To ensure this, i've removed your abillity to post. An email has been sent to the address in your profile. Badgerius, he's in your command, i suggest you contact him as well.------------------ Cmdr. Badgerius
Now, hold on here a second, Ron.There is a Fleet Commander Mark Stryker in the Manual. I see no reason why a person with a different first name AND of a different rank cannot exist within the bc3000 organization. Kirk's full name is user name, so there is no confusion there. If we can we the GCV-Blackstar and the GCV-Black Star, or the Galactea and the Galactae, why can't we have a Fleet Commander Mark Stryker and a Commander Kirk Stryker?------------------ Commander S. Guest Ron Wallin
Badgerius, the question is NOT up for discussion. Derek ruled that NO name from the game (that means STRYKER) can be used by players. quote:Derek Smart: Didn't I tell you folks that you cannot use any character names from the game?It has been and always will be an unchangable rule. Kirk needs to come up with a different last name. His position within your fleet stays the same.[This message has been edited by Ron Wallin (edited 03-03-2000).]
Badgerius
Understood.Kirk, I guess you are going to come up with a new last name. How about Stroika? (You can almost pronounce it the same as Stryker)DREADA, those shots of Titan base, and the buried ship, were created by one James Wilson (ie ME). I made them on COREL's Dream3D renderer. The model of the spacecraft came with Corel, so I can't take credit for that, though.------------------ Commander S. Badgerius
Today at 1800 GMT, Gamma Wing held its first get-together in the Galcom World of Active Worlds. In attendance were myself, Cmdr. Rico Jansen, and Cmdr. Remo Williams. A good turnout for the first meeting!Other than to talk and have a good time, the purpose of the get-together was to find a MP game we can play together until BCM comes out. It was decided that the demo versions of Quake 1 and Xwing versus Tie Fighter will be used, because they have multiplayer and are downloads of less than 10 Megs each. Both of these game demos are available for download at www.happypuppy.com. These games will get the squadrons working as teams, and give us valuable MP practice so that we can be a Wing to be feared when BCM comes out. My goal is to play together at least once every two weeks to start. So, let's try to get even more people to next week's gathering!! I'll post a discussion topic later in the week.Kirk, I can't find any reference to a Cmdr. Mark Sharmen. Could you post or Email me his Email or ICQ, or just let him know he's been promoted, and have him report in here, please.------------------ Commander S. Thomas Siemens
Badgerious, I have just sent the final Structure file, including Personnel (as a jpeg file) to Derek. Made two important changes, because time was running out: * Cmdr. Rico 'V_ger' Jansen is now (acting) Squadron Leader, and * Cmdr. Kirk Stryker has been "renamed" to Cmdr. Kirk Stroiker (only in my Structure, he still has to reregister), as proposed by you.Regards.------------------ Fleet Cmdr.
