Do I have to download Episode 1 to download and play Episode 2? Or are they two seperate demos?

Demo 2 doesn't require Demo 1. They are completely seperate.

Episode 1 did have the pilot sound FX that episode 2 didn't have. If you wanted that you needed to copy that folder

While you don't require the E2 demo to play the E1, they are different in a lot of ways and have different missions. So, you should get both, but install them at different locations!!!
