Fleet Structures

This is inspired by Charles' Balor announcement. As everyone knows, the Insurgency is 4 different fleets now. Splitting was (is) a mild pain because our structure was pretty much hammered out. I think now is a good time to start hammering out the structures for each of the 4 fleets.

Believe me when I say this - LOTS of new people are joining this community as a result of the beta. And I mean LOTS. Which, in turn, means that we've got fresh commanders to brainwash recruit. And when they finally come to their senses and join our cause, I believe it'd be best to have a place to put them, rather than make one up (thus screwing with the existing structures) everytime someone joins.

An example of a structure I've had in mind for Spectre Fleet (no doubt other fleets' structures will vary just as their purposes):

In Spectre, I'd like to have 4 wings to cover the scope of the fleet's mission: Strike Wing, Intel Wing, Ground Wing, and Support (Logistics) Wing. Spectre Station would host both the Strike and Support Wings; Destiny, Intel; and Motley Fools, Ground Ops.

Each wing would have a commander (obviously), and in the case of Destiny (Intel) and Motley Fools (Ground Ops), the commander would have charge of the station/base as well. Spectre Starstation, however, can only have one commanding officer, and that person would have control of the Support Wing. I'd prefer my main strike guy remain mobile (i.e., not tied down to any station as commander).

The idea here is simple: I have wings to accomodate the Insurgent modes of play in BCM, and when I recruit is considering, he'll know what's available to him.

Any thoughts?

Having the wings will be a good idea, but let's make sure that we can man them before we commission them. Ok?

With you both here. While we don't have wings yet there is already a definite separation of duties in Balor fleet. The first is supply,support/transport and the second is defense/escort. As we grow those will expand as well into wings.

I should have put this into the announcement thread but the DB just happens to put list people in the order they signed up. I'm not going to forget the "Charter" members of Balor. We have room to grow. smile.gif

Edit in: just noticed this. You want a supply wing. That is Balor's job. biggrin.gif Unless your guys rendenvous with my guys that is a duplication of effort. But Darn it, until we get BCM it's all conjecture.

Yeah, Charles. A supply wing is important. First off, the description of our fleet is basically all-purpose. Second, if Balor Fleet is engaged (or, in BCM, not part of the scenario), we don't want to be ragged.

I think what he mean is the Balor fleet is the Primary suppply station. He is thinking of a back up plan if we are cut out, can not get the supplyout at the time they need some thing or they have get it else where due to blockade or attack.

Actually, I was more thinking about the limited number of players before BCM. It probably won't be feesible to have multiple fleets from a single alliance engaged against another fleet - there would simply be too many players. Inasmuch, each fleet is going to need someone internal to run their supplies.

The way I see it, for RP purposes, Balor Fleet mainly defends our large stockpiles and gets them to the fleets' individual stockpiles. Then, each fleet takes control.

That's the way I see it in order to accomodate the limited players in BCM MP (bring on GCO).

Also (while I'm on my soapbox), I think it would be plausible to set up an RP campaign in BCM. Granted, all fleets can't engage at once, but we could make it so that the actions of one fleet would impact the circumstances of another.

For example, if Balor Fleet were to take a beating (not likely: it's Insurgent and headed by Charles) the remaining fleets would be hard pressed to find supplies beyond their standard stores.

Just raving right now, trying to pass the time until MP. smile.gif

I think wing assignments would be a good way to train recruits...or newbies to the game universe.

hmm what's with the one liners smile.gif

well wings..it's ok to be assigned a fleet, but you could do anything in that fleet. But if your in a wing, under command by a leader of that wing, you go with him you fly with him. You stay together...makes for easy training of new comers by oldies, so they aren't overwhelmed they're paired properly with a seasoned player.

Cruis In does have a point. BCM or even BCO wouldn't be as frustrating for a newbie if you had this. In fact, it'd make a much more enjoyable time for the newbie.

We're working on wings, just waiting until we have enough people to create them. Check the first post in this thread.
