That's a way to get an idea where everyone is going. Like supplying screenshots from the tradcom infopage through email or something. Or just through chat/comm channel.

Now, that's a very good idea about the mail/chat. Ever considered a career change?

Thanks for the idea.

I've been updating the intercorp webpage again, but now have some questions about the contents.

I've been looking at the other pages (earthcom, iss, etc) and they all have bc3000 copyright lines in it. Now, I've included that in the frontpage as well but do any rules about building a 'bc3000' website exist?

I've looked into the forums, but other than joining the webring and an email address for information about the webring, I couldn't find much.

Anyone?

Rico, while on the subject of this website; I want to include some kind of trading-for-beginners section. I've read your posts about trading and would like to include them in the website.

Do yuo have any objections about that (ofcourse credits where credits are due... )

Seems to me that everybody is on vacation

Rico,s comment about the corp. needing members kind of haunted me, so here it goes:

Just to remind everyone. "Members" as used below are indies that completely have their fate in their own hands. The are free to do whatever they want and merely have choosen to associate themselves to the corporation and make themselves available to assignments that are offered by the corporation (and which they are free to refuse).

Why does the corporation need members?

The corporation needs members so that services can be offered to either members of other divisions or clients that are not part of the organisation (e.g. fleets).

The primary stimulus here is trusting the member that will carry out the contract. As people correctly commented: "why trust someone? It's easier to do it by someone we already trust". Now, that's all true, but these persons are not always readily available.

Now, suppose that the corporation has divisions, each with a pool of members that potentially could carry out the task required. Further, suppose that all divisions have a ranking system. Members would not climb in rank unless they have proven trustworthy. They would have to carry out a number of contracts successfully and discreetly in order to climb. Based on their actions the division can establish whether or not to trust a member.

Clients can require someone of a particular rank to carry out a contract. This gives the client some degree of security/discreetness.

Basically this system is still a bit of a gamble for a client. Nobody can guaranty that a member is trustworthy or not. It is the member's history that will have to convince the client. The corporation is no more than the recording instrument.

Now, this is not the only reason why the corporation wants members, but I will eleborate on the other reasons in another post.

What's in it for the members then?

Well, they would establish a reputation for himself. Now that would happen anyway, but in this case the corporation is activily promoting it (provided that it is a positive reputation). The ranking system of one of the divisions would clearly map the member of that division to a particular status.

Moreover, the divisions aim to provide several advantages to their members. E.g. The trader division will share sensitive (and profitable) information with members and possibly give discounts, etc... to their members (note: I'm not too much in favour of discounts, but that is not withing the scope of this post).

A further reason for joining is a proper training for newbies. New commanders get to be introduced to the bc3k universe, its do's and don't, and the finesses of their particular trade (how to assassinate somebody, or how to trade, or how to escort vessels as a merc, etc...)

Well, quite a bit of text again. As always, I'm open to comments or suggestions.

Guess that goes for all of us. Start of the year (at far as univerities go) is always extremely busy, so I browse the forum, but do not reply much.

BTW: Epsilon 5, if you're reading this; I'm sorry that I had to leave so sudden. Like it _very_ much, but had a client coming in

Yes. But it's not going to happen. I want my character to bite spacedust first. And perhaps I'll become a UCV affiliated to Primefleet. Or something of a fleet support role if that ever comes up from the ground. Not sure.

Sure go ahead, I'm honored. (The following only makes sense if you have read my very first trade post (= lost)) ... The sound of credits are music to Ferengie lobbes.

I will need next week to check that member part you described. Only skimmed it. Looks ok, but that doesn't mean much. I'm in college now, can't be online earlier than monday or tuesday. Oh well, no hurries.

Thanks, I'll start working on it beginning next week. Err, about those Ferengies, no, didn't read your first trade posts, I'm a newbie

Not in a hurry at all. Just glad you take the time to 'flesh it out'.

hehe, its a corporation so it should be businesslike...

No really, I'm a web programmer, not a web designer, but it will do.

Any input/suggestions/help is appreciated

Err, about those Ferengies,...

Nothing special really. Just that my first topic with explanation of the bc3k price calculations I made was titled "My bc3k rules of acquisition". And now you mention that credits where credits are due. So, get me interested by firing up the bribe-ing machine.

But I allready said yes, so it doesn't matter. Just kidding.

Well, Zandvoort is only a one hour drive (err, off-season that is ), I'm sure that something can be arranged.

Nah, seriously, I'll start working on a first version tonight (yeah! frantic period at work is more or less over, so I actually have some time left).

Tx, but I feel that I've already got quite a few things to do. It's definitly coming and i've got a few ideas in that direction, so when I'm ready to step foot in that direction I'll let you know.

Currently I'm busy with the website, incorporating content based on Rico's earlier posts on trading.

Unfortunately that brought me on other ideas as well, so I'm trying to incorporate that as well.

It's a mix of 'how to trade' and 'how to behave' in the bc3k universe. Kind of what you do in your role as 'welcome wagon'. Might save you a bit of typing if a newbie is interested in becoming a newbie

Moreover, I want to send some stuff I made to tacops (like the charter), but I better cordinate that with Jeffery. Unfortunately he's probably very busy in RL right now (as a lot of us are I guess), so I haven't heard from him in a while.

I'll certainly have a look at it later

Anyway Riga, I feel for you. School has been killing me........

hehe, my customers are all universities and colleges. I'm making timetabling software and guess _when_ they need it the most (and simultaneously I might add )

Grin, typo (making himself very small in the corner, using the remote controlled keyboard to correct himself)

Riga, traffic shouldn't be much of a problem with this lousy wheater these days. But nevermind, I'm quite generous of nature.

Don't forget that what I wrote is only about bc3k. BCM will most surely be quite different. First there will be something of a marketprice-sentiment among traders in multiplayer. Second as NPCs and player will influence the prices by supply and demand itself. Also, I can't remember having seen anything about (starting) inflation values on stations in the BCM 'unofficial official' docs. So I don't know how trade techniques have changed. But I have only skimmed those docs. Maybe that's why.

BC3K is a start, just don't rely on it too much. (Saves newbie questions, I hope)

Especially in this lousy weather, everybody takes the car!

Absolutely right, but since bc3k is now free I expect that the demand will remain.

I've been thinking about that in the last few days, and I intend to setup two parts/sections, one for bc3k and one for bcm

Just have to make it very clear which section is for what BC version.

May I see your BCM Pre-order Sir?. Aha, please follow me. (leading him toward the left hand door.

May I see your BCM Pre-order Sir?. No?, hmm... this way. (looking sad while leading yet another bc3k player to the right hand door).

[/rp]

(blessed are we that preordered )

Well, I've got my work cut out for me I guess... Progress is slow, but progress is progress

I've posted Intercorp's charter some time ago and except for Rico's comment's nobody seemed to have a problem with it.

I'll wait until next tuesday, and then intent to send it to tacops.

Not that this will put intercorp on the map yet, but I'm interested in their feedback.

Greetings Guys & Gals,

I'm back.

First off, let my start by giving my sincere condolences to any commander that may have a missing friend or relative in both the NY and Washington attacks. I understand the feeling as I have a brother working over there in Alabama, and when I first heard of the attack, I was worried sick.

Secondly, I apologize for my lack of response especially to Riga. As you said I'm being really busy in RL as I just got married Yes, I've tied the knot with a very beautiful and understanding woman and am just getting used to sharing my life with another person (p.s. parents don't count ) And I've just returned from 3 weeks of honeymoon. So when I get some time I start posting!!! BTW Riga glad you sent the charter to tacops.

Till then, I'm heading home for some snookie if you know what I mean

Heya my man, congrat's, also to your wife!

No problem, I've been real busy as well, so I know the feeling, I'm just very fortunate to have a webbrowser on the background so that I can press the 'refresh button' on a regular basis.

Yeah, have sent the charter, but since the game is going gold soon, I've been asked to remind him later. That's ok, could expect that I guess

Anyway, glad you're back again.

BTW: visit the intercorp site, it have been expanding a bit.
