Guest LeMaster
I am running verion 2.09 and keep running up against a serious problem. My first mission is to escort a Diplomat to Alpha Majoris from Earth..by the time I reach Alpha Major my Radine(sp?) energy crystal are down below 50%, and by the I arrive at Tulon station and remove some enemies during the second mission my stores get depleted and I get waxxed from existence due to my reactor getting shut down. The crystals are dreadfully expensive at over 1000 a pop at Galcom. Was energy consumption changed since the 1.x verions (last time I played). I do not remember having this much problem with energy crystals running out so quickly.
Gallion
yep, energy consumption has changed dramatically since v1.x days. Sell some stuff before ye launch and buy more Radine. Use Rattler's scavenger hunting (search the forum for this Tip) technique to generate some income.TTFN

Guest LeMaster
Thanks alot for the help...didn't find anything specific on scavenger hunting but did find a post by Rattler about towing the diplomat all the way to Majoris using the Tractor. Rattler
That would be the one Commander! grab the stuff from the debris field, run to Majoris and sell it. Of course, jeteson the illegal stuff before docking though. Buy upgrades and all the plutonium and stuff that you can afford. From there, you are on your own! ------------------ Rattler, Insurgent One Commander-In-Chief, InsurgencyOfficial Tester,Battlecruiser Series [email protected] ICQ 12894104"Still Kickin' after all these years!" Guest LeMaster
I must have the IQ of a rock. I hypered out to the Pluto bound jump gate, since that is where the Dip appears, but cannot get him caught in my tractor beam... My square never gets small enuff to superimpose on the target, i've tried about 10 times with no success to capture sucker!.. Tried the debris field just for the heck of it to get the hang of working with the shuttles.. No sooner did I show up then 'friends' showed up to taking me precious goods. Eclipse
There are "ways" to remove their cargo. Do a search, see what comes up. ------------------ Cmdr. Guest aramike01
Hmmm, that's interesting. Never had the problem and I usually fly at about 10 times the recommended tractoring speed when making an "aquisition". Are you sure you're not catching the cargo? Are you trying with a shuttle or your BC? ------------------ Cmdr. Eclipse
hehe, me I usually end up holding down afterburner and playing chicken with the other ships captain. I gotten more than my share of scratched paint and large dents, but I usually always have the sucker on a leash. 8D Mike: I thought he was refering to other ships taking cargo pods from the same debris field he was in. ------------------ Cmdr. Papi
Hi LeMaster! If I understood right you are trying to tow the diplomat ship to Majoris with your BC, right? If so, don't do it! Shield of your BC go down when you tow a ship, so you are very vulnerable to any hostile attacks. Why don't you just escort the dip ship to Majoris? Or if you must tow another ship use shutles. Just order shuttle to tow a ship you want and then order it to take jump by jump to region you want. And when it's in the region you want just switch to shuttle and fly to station and ask for docking clearence and deliver the ship. And what comes to cargo pods and depris fields, I've noticed that it takes some time before cargo pods "are ready" in depris field, so if you just order your shuttle to fly to depris field and give order to cargosweep, it won't work since the shuttle leaves the depris field before cargo pods "develop". I usually switch to shuttle and fly in autopilot with order to "fly to" depris field and wait till asteroids (or what ever they are) begin to to show up that's the time when you propably will find cargo pods too. Then just order the shuttle to "cargo sweep" and before you wink your eye you'll have lots of stuff to sell. I hope this was any help to you.------------------ Cmdr Jason Cloud GCV Silver Lining Prime fleet Gamma Wing, 26 Commander 2nd squadron "No quarter" "They hold no quarter, they ask no quarter"
Rattler
You guys missed the entire point of my post on this subject. The entire reason for towing that Diplomat to Majoris is saving time. Time that you will use in collecting cargo from that debris field. To collect that cargo, all one has to do is order your BC to fly to the debris field. Watch it's progress in Tacops. When it's inside the debris field, order it to halt. Next zoom all the way in on tacops until the blue lines are visible. Then go to the bridge and scan the radar presentation. See all those blue objects? Send your shuttles out to collect them. Just that simple. BTW, once your shuttles have collected them down to about one or two left, go back to Tacops, then back to the bridge and the pods will have been replaced. ------------------ Rattler, Insurgent One Commander-In-Chief, InsurgencyOfficial Tester,Battlecruiser Series [email protected] ICQ 12894104"Still Kickin' after all these years!" Guest LeMaster
That is exactly what I am trying to do Rattler, but can't get the Diplomat's ship caught in the tracort beam. My tractor square never gets small enuff to superimpose on the diplomats ship. No matter what profile I approach from.
Gallion
Ye has to get real bloody close w/ BC to Dip to tractor. Most times I bump it some w/o major damge to either vessel.Tractor will lock onto target (any target) once it is w/in .25km. Which is squat for a shuttle craft but real tight for a BC. Keep trying and remember the VTOL controls also. There are more available axis of movement than left, right forward, and reverse; up and down. VTOL controls work in space also though response is sluggish.TTFN
Guest LeMaster
This is getting just plain aggrivating. I have even bumped this diplomat in space several times and the tractor has been a nogo each time. Last time I did this, it showed on my target screen that the diplomat was a tractored object so I started jumping, but NO diplomat followed me, and he got waxxed in the Tulon area. Bah..i'll about ready to assign a few IC's to his butt for defense duty and head off to Majoris myself and wait to see what happens.
Gallion
Launch a shuttle and give it orders to TOW Diplomat1. After SH has Dip1 in tractor, give SH orders to escort BC - careful in Arima though. Things get hairly at the Xylan JP.TTFN
Rattler
Gentlemen, anybody ever hear of issueing your BC orders? At first sight of that diplomat, target him and quickly order your BC to tow that baby. Guest LeMaster
Rattler..this is EXACTLY what i'm doing when I try to tow the Diplomat. I go out to the Pluto gate since that is where the diplomat first appears. As soon as I see his blue blip on the screen I traget his butt with the tractor beam and close in to capture, and all that happens is I collide with him, tractor beam never locks, and he enters the gate to Pluto. I've tried doing this free style, with AutoPilot Direct, and Autopilot AI, and for some reason I can never get a lock on the diplotmat before he enters the jump gate to Pluto. Should the diplomat be apprearing on the screen just a few seconds from the Pluto jumpgate? In the multitude of times iv'e done this scenario he has never launched from Galcom, just appears at the jumpgate and jumps about 10 seconds later, short of firing him out of the sky 10 to 15 seconds is usually all the time I have to capture him before he makes his first jump. Rattler
Ok, takes experience I guess Try just targetting him, jump to his location, Hit the "T" key and manually fly your BC right up his tailpipes. Keep him centered inside that blue square. It'll lock onto him. You just have to be quick and, if necessary, use Afterburners to close the distance once you are close enough to him. Tractors have to be very close. I think it's less than 3K's. Forget the exact numbers, but it works. Done it many times just to demonstrate it to friends. ------------------ Rattler, Insurgent One Commander-In-Chief, InsurgencyOfficial Tester,Battlecruiser Series [email protected] ICQ 12894104"Still Kickin' after all these years!"[This message has been edited by Rattler (edited 06-19-2000).]
Charles Lindsey
I watched him do it. I listened to him explain it. I still couldn't do it. Oh well, takes a knack I guess. But so long as you complete the mission everything is ok right.?
Gallion
If ye miss Dip1 at Pluto JP, then jump to Pluto and Tractor Dip1 before it enters wormhole. This is where I tractor Dip1 99.9% of the time.TTFN
