XOR
has anyone gotten all of their crew to 100% AI? if so does it make things easier or harder to control??? ppl have complained about this resnig fellow but to be honest he has never given me a problem (the only time was my own fault because i forgot to put him back on duty and an invader came in my ship and took out my research officer) so i was wondering if its because he had a High AI and there was some bugs with him or something??? at any rate I havent been around for a while because my comp has been acting strangely by gradually going slower and slower untill windows no longer loads and i am forced to reformat so i basically gotta start from scratch
Bandus
There aren't any bugs with Resnig. He is just generally the whipping boy because, well, he just is. No matter what his AI it always seems he is screwing things up. (That and the commanders never admit it's their fault so it defaults to Resnig). As far as your slowdown is concerned I recommend checking for spyware. That's the death of many computers these days and people don't realize to even check for it. It can be extraordinarily damaging to a system.
XOR
hmmm interesting... well i have been useing adaware ever since ive learned of spyware but strangely I still got hit by the train (5 times) it usually lasts about 2 weeks b4 it dies again, i dunno if it's an attack or what doesnt make any sense
Bandus
I find that using AdAware in combination with another program called Spybot - Search & Destroy usually works pretty well. Both can be acquired from www.download.com AdAware will pickup on stuff that Spybot won't and vica versa. Also, be sure that your updating your spyware definition files in both programs. Since your running WinXP that pretty much rules out memory leaks. Very odd issue you have though.

XOR
BAH it happened AGAIN !!! apparently it has nothing to do with spyware bucause I deleted all of them today and my comp still slowed down.... what else could this be!? I must get to the bottom of this! do you know what it is like to build everything up just to lose it all and start over again??

weegee_101
My roommate had a similar problem. Update everything on Windows Update. I don't know what it was that fixed it, but one of the updates fixed all of his problems. Try this, then tell us what your status is.
Gol_Stoan
My suggestion would be to get more ram, other than that check your AGP apature (I know, my spelling sucks) size in the BIOS. My system acts screwy if I have it set higher than 64mb.
XOR
alright ill try that but ill have to wait about a month to know it made a difference =/
Charles Lindsey
quote:Originally posted by XOR: so i was wondering if its because he had a High AI and there was some bugs with him or something??? Try this old thread. This is OLD, OLD stuff. Like not even on this forum stuff. Like on the previous forum stuff. Resnig would override your orders. ALWAYS!!! It was very aggravating and we "bugged" Derek to death till he changed it. Let's say you had assigned your first marine in the list to guard medibay. The marine goes to medibay and all is fine and dandy UNTIL intruders board. Resnig would then take the first ten marines and asign them to search duty. EVEN THE ONE you had PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED to medibay. At which point the injured intruder would trek his happy butt up to medibay and heal himself. All sorts of odd things would happen with this. Let's say your first five marines were dead. You get intruders. Resnig assigned the first ten marines IN THE LIST to search duty. Well five are dead so now you only have five marines searching. That's the way I remember it at least. Therefore Resnig became the butt of many jokes back then and to this very day. He's not perfect. But what would be the fun in that? If you watch closely the medical officer will pull some of the same stunts Resnig does.
XOR
ok i see lol well i would always let them do that stuff by themselves, guess i got lucky and had marines start with a high Ai but i cant tell now becuase I lost that save a while back oh well
IceCold
Windows ME had about a 4 month life cycle before it became unusually slow. I could extend this by not using BCM but oh well, I think much of the problem had to do with the infinite loop problem in the load screen. This happened to me quite often and forced me to hard reset. What OS do you use? IceCold
Kalshion
quote:Originally posted by DeepFreeze: Stop downloading porn. If you don't have something to contribute to this thread then please do not post -- I had a similer problem like this before. At first I thought it was a problem with my computer, however it was a file in the game itself Make sure all your files are up-to-date, make sure you have the latest patch to. As for spyware, keep on checking it can still crawl in your system even IF you have Ad-aware or spybot, there are some spyware out there that CAN NOT be picked up by those two programs. The only way to reconize these other adware programs is by there size and if they continue to ask for internet connection (IE If you have Zone Alarm) If you don't have ZA GET IT! it helps a lot in proventing other adware from getting on your system, not much, but at least its a small step
XOR
quote: What OS do you use? Windows XP quote: My suggestion would be to get more ram, lol I heard if u put too much ram it will actually make things worse, i already have 1.5gigs hehe I was talking to a guy in SWG today about it and he told me that it might have to do with a virus in my MBR, so if it happens to slow down again I'll have to check that and if the conventional memory is below 639k I should format it, he also told me doing that wouldn't harm my files... can anyone confirm this? (to see this reboot your comp into safemode with command prompt only and type "mem" without the quotation marks) btw I looked at my conventional memory today and it was 655k(which is healthy) but then again when I reformated the entire comp it also gave me the option to format my MBR so ill just have to wait and see what happens next
Splad
if he's been reformatting, i don't see how it could be a software thing
Splad
wait, nevermind, i've got that backwords, if reformatting fixes it, then it must be software. whatever it is, you must be installing it every time you reformat. i don't want to imply anything, but if you have your os or any of your basic software that you install every time on a burned cd (as in you're not sure where the files came from) you might wanna try installing from a different cd just to make sure there isn't anything imbedded in a ms office installer (for instance) that could be doing it. XOR
nope its the CDs that came with the comp but then again you gotta realize that it had to happen before I reformatted the first time so i dont think its the recovery disk

XOR
quote:Check the Admin logs for any consistant errors, report what you find. you mean the stuff in administration tools right? i looked at the event log and there seems to be several system errors every day but I think those are the ones I get when something crashes to desktop like a game or the internet browser (all errors happen within the time span of a second) there are also security audit failures every day for a policy change... i dont have any idea what that means though
