Planetside Commands

Hello everyone. I searched the forums for a bit and couldn't find any info so I'll see if you fellow commanders might help.

I'm trying to deploy 5 marines and my AE to the earth's surface so I can do some "training". Not sure what training entails but I've heard it mentioned so I figure it will be fun!

So I land my CC Solnar planetside. Load my troops in the transporter and try and deploy from tacops. No dice. So I launch and fly in the atmosphere and try. No good. It still won't let me select deploy. So I return to space and it finally lets me use the transporter. So Im guessing the transporter can only be used from space?

I am beamed to the planet and I only see two other marines. Ok, thats strange. Well I might as well train the marines that are here. So I try and issue commands with hotkeys in the manual. Shift+; Follow me

Shift+' Hold Position

So I issue the order, "Follow me", and nothing happens. Do the marines give you a cue of some sort to verify the order?

So after trying to figure that out I gave up and went to TACOPS. I issued the command "Escort: AE."

Now I notice that the marines look at me when I issue this order. Ok good. I run away. They just stand there. I have to fly my jet pack quite a distance away, almost out of visual range to get them to start moving "with" me. Am I missing something?

So by this point I've had enough and decide to teleport back to the CC. I arrive and check perscan to see the status of my missing transported marines. DEAD. Did they get beamed into a rock or something? Is Resnig sharing whatever he's smoking with the rest of my crew!?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom on the situation commanders.

Over and out.

hi

I know what the dissapearing marine problem is, well its not really a problem. if you check perscan, you will notice that some of the marines (depending on your ship) are in space suits. you can not beam marines in space suits to a planet, well as sc explained, they are not designed for planet operations. so it makes sense. apparantly the idea is that the suits deteriorate upon entering the enviroment, killing the marine.

As for the follow order, theres no real solution.. the ai is clueless until they gain at least an ai rating of 70. and even then they're not too bright... the best way to attack a base is using your best asset... you. You will find that once you get your OC in their base, they cant do a damn thing to stop you.

I find theres little to be gained from blowing up the bases on a planet.. aside from a change of scenery it just gets you away from your best mate, your CC... from what i have heard, UC is the one for planetary engagements. anyway good luck.

Yeah, pay attention not to put Space Force Marines (SFM usually found at the bottom of your marine list) in the transporter or to deploy them on the surface of a planet or they'll be dead instanctly.

Yes, you can! But make sure that the atmosphere isn't hostile to your CC. Some planets and moons have an atmosphere that will be harmful to your CC, fighters, or AE. Shuttles have an easier time surviving these atmospheric conditions.

As for making sure the atmosphere isn't hostile? Hmmm, I'd like some help on that. Is there a computer system that tells you the hostility of an environment? I've noticed when I ise Tacops and observe a planet or moon, sometimes there are decriptions along the meridians such "normal", and others. Does anyone have an idea of what these mean to me and the integrity of my ship?

Man, now I understand why Resnig get ripped on so much. This guy is a total moron. It seems he doesn't like taking orders, like RTB, or ESCORT, or.....ANYTHING! Thats the last time I make him commander of the away team. On a lighter note(sort of), we totally detroyed a INS marine base on earth, with only a CAV. Winning the fight for earth one base at a time! ...That was until the INS fighters came. Quick, back to the CC! ...Resnig...I said back to the CC! RESNIG!!!!

Oh well, he's not listening, I'll just beam his ass up later.

Back at the CC. Good. Now to order the flight engineers to start CALS and get us to saftey. Enemy fighters closing fast, and I'm not at the bridge yet. Flight engineers, attack the enemy fighters! Hey.....you know that moutain looks a little close.....pull up...guys....hel---BOOM!

Commander Vans Tiderion has been killed in action.

Doh! ....Stupid Resnig.

Those are the various climate zones on that planet. It varies with the planet type.

bleargh. Fellas, It's called a Bugnor. Well then again you need 8 million galcreds for one. Its kinda fun taking out their no.1 base on the gammulan homeworld with the push of a button. Actually i suggest you use bugnor's for profit, and buy a tanix to use while you're at it. Just make sure all the idiots (one idiot) is locked somewhere safe, so whomever (he) can't stuff up the nuclear missle launch. would be BAD to have it turn back towards you.
