thought this was kinda funny...

I was on Otura-6 mining. We were ready to leave so I send shuttles 1-4 to pick up the drones..one of the shuttles did the old..skid along the ground thing so I ordered it to halt and sent a shuttle that had returned to tow it back...at the same time I sent another that had returned to pick up the drone the towed shuttle had failed to extract. When the shuttle got there it just circled around and around the waypoint. I was steaming at this point..we had been there all night..and was way low on reactor juice. So I order the circling shuttle back in and head to the shuttle bay to go and extract the drone myself. On the way..I go to the tactical computer to send all the marines that had piloted the shuttles back to there stations. Well when I looked at the screen there was no marine in the shuttle that was circling...I looked again..I know I put marine in there..but nope there all acounted for. Some how...a medic got in that shuttle and I guess he had no idea how to go about extracting that mining drone. When I put marine in same shuttle, he had no problem extracting the drone.

Ya, just recently, I pissed off a bunch of raiders by blowing their Sentry up in Pluto orbit. After I figured Pluto region was safe, I headed over to Mars. Nothing happening. Then a bunch of raider cruisers and carriers pop in the system and before I know it there's raiders EVERYWHERE. It was an intense battle, expecially when the raiders sent a nice, brand-new Firestorm after my MKIII.

Let me tell you, after that battle, I had the Mars Starstation engineers cleaning Space Marine parts off of every nook and cranny in my ship. I musta hit like a dozen of them during that battle.

It reminded me of when me and my family would go on long road-trips through some old countryside in the middle of summer and every two seconds you'd hear a crack on the windshield and see a nice, green splotch there....yeah...it was kinda like that.

I don't know whether some bit of behavior got tweaked with RC9, or my pilots simply suddenly were touched by the hand of Shiva, but I like the results either way.

About two minutes after first launching, Sol/Earth was suddenly awash with Fal military types and Val raiders--they entered initially fighting each other, then I think they made a quick truce when they saw me jumping towards them. My fighters were in standard dual-escort, which was set up much more quickly than before (the new support units targeting option is a good thing). I put them into it and forgot about them.

A minute or two later, FC-1 had 3 kills and was working on more. FC-3 lagged a bit behind with only 2, and then took a nasty hit; I quickly reeled him back in with an RTB order, sent the slightly banged-up pilots to medibay. We don't have any medals on board, but I figure I'll autograph them each a nutripack. I hope they make this kind of showing a habit.

good lord. You got the savants!

What is the AI and DF skills of the pilot with 3 kills?

My pilots cant find their own ass with their 2 hands if I told them where it was.

They weren't anything remarkable. AI 18 or so, but I don't recall what his dogfight was at. Nothing that stood out at me, in any case.

I deleted out that game, though, because I somehow managed to lose an ATV which was driving laps on Earth. The zoom-to-support-craft menu showed nothing, mouse-hovering over its TLM entry claimed it was right there by the waypoints I'd left it at. I think the marines buried it--and themselves.

Captain's log stardate 12-06-2001.

After a collecting my mine drones and selling of the minerals, I have acquired enough credits to purchase a Linear S/IV shield upgrade from Pixan.

I had directed my Sunflash starship to park near Lennen's moon orbit and gave the orders to my 5 inexperienced flight engineers to start upgrading my starship's shield.

Thinking to save cost I had switch off my starship's engines and ordered my entire crew to take a break with the exception of the Chief Engineer and the flight engineers. 2 minutes into the upgrading, I felt a shockwave impacting my starship. Immediately, I had systems damages throguhout my entire starship all my flight engineers were lost. I rushed to switch my engines on and raise my shields. As my engines powered up I saw a Warmonger on my tacops screen together with 2 FC attacking me.

Before I could do anything else. The bloody sobs blew me out of space.

The morale of this story never ever park your self in orbit with your engines down. Will try to land on planet instead next time. God darn all those credits wasted!!!!

Messed around walking on the spaceship today.

Learned a couple things, and had a bit of fun.

Number one: I was floating around my PTA turret when an enemy came into range. My PTA gun fired - straight through me while I was in FP flying around it. Knocked my health down to 60% and scared the hell out of me before I could get out of the way.

Number two: Found a way to get into the BC Mk3 docking bay and walked around inside of it before getting my ship toasted by an enemy. I was able to take a screenshot of it though. I'll probably put it on my site later.

The linear/IV shield system has got to be god's gift to spacefarers. Complete with guardian angel. I just wiped out three startations and didn't get scratched. The last one featured a cloaked stormcarrier in waiting too.

I miss the BC3000 days when taking out a station involved taking the day off work and scratching away at it, then limping back to GALCOM because it was the only place you could afford all the repairs. Now those were startations.

I agree. So far my only real complaint with the game is that it's too easy. I routinely blow away dozens of enemies without taking any damage at all. The only times I've been killed have all been due to my own stupidity.

But maybe after I've played a single game for a week or two the AI will start getting good enough to give me a challenge. Maybe an option to set the starting average computer AI level would be usefull.

Can't. Its dynamic and is updated over time.

I wasn't complaining. Just a bit of nostalgia for the old days.... which for me, who is relativle new, weren't that long ago.

I think if you want more of a challenge, just don't upgrade your shield or armor. I got holes blown in me all the time when I was sporting titanium/I and Spectrum/a

Fired up my old p2 300 that still had BC3K v2.09 on it, started a new game (gawd I MISS the bridge view!) and realized Galcom's amazing twist from a competent crew of pilots that in their first mission can do their stuff to the bunch of potheaded retards I get in BC:M. And the "old" school guys had much lower AI.

Its the education system I tell you... *nods head*

In today's news:

GCV BONEHEAD EXPRESS, a Megaron carrier was lost in action against a raider light fighter. Sole survivor, Marine #2 who was piloting Shuttle 1 on cargosweep remembers the action:

"Tah kumandehr told I to go pik up boxes full of goodie goodies. So I go and pu'hl nice box in with magic blue light beam. Me return to sheep and I see Raider *grumble* Aleeneex fiter blow one of our fihtars... I hear pretty lady on radio screaming *snork* *snork*. Me try to get to big ship ta go in but big ship kept moving and I culdntt dock. Me keep trying , keep hearing screams ovah radio, I theenk dat when the last of our fiters got popped I hear kumander sobbing like me li'l sister after I punch her lights out. I culdnt lahnd, big sheep blow up in front of me eyes. *grumble*. Do I get candy now?"

Hmm sounds like my little problem in my MKII after wasteing Pixan---

Heres the story..

I was flying back to earth and I happend to jump into the region with pixan--- Well I felt like it was time to blow it outta orbit.. Of course I went in and -- blew it up-- Its PTA got my shields down to %50 (im flying with no upgrades).. Well shields hit %100 again-- There wasnt much left in the region except 2 fighters-- Well, I decided this is the perfect time to give my pilots some training-- I send them all out-- ..

Of course I think everythings fine-- 2 minutes later-- the enemy fighters are still there-

What the?! I look and see that my guys have been following the hostiles around and havent even taken down their shields-- I even filled em up with missiles! So I decided-- Well, the pilots have had a hard day.. Ill give em a break--

So at that I went after an enemy in my BC-- Knowing this isnt BC3K I let my PTA system do its job-- Well, the PTA system didnt hit em ONCE .. I hit the fighter with 2 msl's...

By then my pilots were dead or dying (serves them right).. Besides that those 2 fighters tore engineering a new one-- The officers were yelling and screaming saying stuff like 'life support is critical on deck 2' 'operations has taken damage' blah blah-- But from that one thing stood out--- It was from the CE-- All I heard was Reactor, Overheating, Critical, Surge-- I think it went in that order..

Anyway after I heard 'surge' I knew I was going to explode any second now-- I checked perscan and saw the CE and anybody in engineering was dead or about to be. My engines were shot, my last ditch effort to escape by sending a shuttle to tow me was cut off-- (you see I had to cut power to comms to bring up launch control since my reactor was shooting out nuclear fire and not produceing very much power and well, I saw everything say 'malfunction' on the bridge-- then everything cut back on and power was put from launch control TO comms AND i couldnt divert power because logisticx(SP) was destroyed!!)..

So then seeing the rain of laser fire below my ship move up and start putting holes in my ship. (unlike the naval units and their poor aim enemy fighters seem to be pretty good at blowing up helpless BC's) A second later everyone was dead as the reactor gave up..

here's one that i just experienced. proves you don't need a huge ship to destroy other ships!

me, just leaving Earth's atmosphere and simply flying around, spotted a Firestorm suddenl pop out of the radar. and this firestorm had ME targeted and had engaged it's hyperdrive.

me deciding not to go it in alone, luanched my fighters on SAD designations.

i simply moved my ship forward toward's the firestorm(it was right infront of me even though it was still a while away).

as soon as it came out of hyperspace. SURPRISE! it had missed it's target by a huge amount.

with the firestorm in my line of sight(i had my IOD % at 30 BTW) i fired away(no missiles included) at the firestorm.

the ship tokk it's damage, immediately penetrating it's shields and bringing it's hull down.

the firestorm is tough and it's hull continue to go down.

me being cocky and all simply moved forwards with my ship, wiaitng the inevitable explosion of the ship. suddenly, it launches it's fighters at me but they all decide to go at FC-2. i was quite amazed at first, i thought they were going to head for me.

as i cloesd in on the firestorm i turned off my EMD and targeted the ship with missiles.

a few moments later i see the firestorm(it's shape, size, design etc.)and notice i have a misisle lock.

me still being bold and cocky and etc. move in for the kill. seems the firestorm has it's PTA busy shooting at my fighters(as i made my way to the firestorm my PTA shot at the enemy fighters).

so i grin evilly and fire a whole blodly salvo of missiles at the darn thing and fire my cannons at it to make sure i was right there when it blew.

i must've been a few inches from the firestorm(i could see it's engines and a few PTA cannons) and then BOOM! it blew it my face! at that split second i took a snapshot and grinned more evilly!!

suddenly my computer crashed too the destop(it always does anyway). but i still remember destroying that firestorm that was in my face!

Tonight's lesson learned was the importance of situational awareness, and not missing some very important trees for the forest.

I had taken orbit above a remote moon of Saturn, far off from shipping lanes, in order to put the crew through some paces. Interceptors escorting each other chasing waypoints, all four OC's on the surface running laps. Occasionally I'd beam down to the OC-racetrack, avoiding getting run over by the slightly-dumber-than-a-box-of-dumb-things marines driving, and breathing the hard vacuum secure in my SEP field. Meanwhile, the systems engineering team was hard at work putting in new top-of-the-line upgrades all around. The medics roamed, occasionally patching up the SE's when they did things like weld their feet to bulkheads.

The last scheduled upgrade, my BC Mk3's new Linear-Spec/IV shield system, went into place. The SE's went for a nap, I watched racing OC's for a time, then sent the shuttles back to retrieve them. My mining drones were soon to be full; my long-range plan was to return to Saturn, from there sweep through Mars, and thence back to Earth to collect minerals, sell, and restock.

Engines online with a powerful thrum as the shuttles re-docked with OC's and marines safe and sound--and even a tiny little bit less stupid in a couple of the more abject cases. The interceptors jumped back and redocked, and I set FE's to work re-prepping them. I had a fully-upgraded ship, as powerful as it would ever be until such time in the distant future when my RE got more brains, a slightly-better trained group of pilots and marines, and a purpose. Hyperspace, and into Saturn we went.

All was empty, and another jump took us to the Mars jump node, when the alarm klaxon sounded. An Insurgent vessel appeared, clear on the other side of the sector, and a Droidan Raider followed--they were clearly having a disagreement. Curious, I gave the order to halt, waiting to see who would survive that little tussle. Turned out to be the raider, who immediately set his sights on myself.

I smirked and waited, engaged as he emerged from hyperspace by me, dispatched the woefully-outmatched fighter without a problem. More raider vessels appeared, and I focused on the nearest. PTA fire carved its shields steadily, and it began returning fire. Ha, with my new shield, it doesn't stand a chance before...

thud. thud thud thud. Kendrick announcing a stream of things that all ended in "...damaged." The heck? The offending raider fighter went boom, and I looked over to the shield indicator...

...and realized it was off. I had never turned it back on before leaving that quiet little sub-region. I corrected that, dispatched the last couple raiders with a bit less speed--I must not be too badly messed up, got lucky, I thought. All was quiet again, so I decided to survey the damage. I'll just fire up logistix and...

"Logistix computer is destroyed."

Oh...kay. I'm not as lucky as that. Let's just jump to the nearest friendly station and...

"Unable to engage hyperdrive." Fair enough, my top speed was halved, the engine was obviously in a bad place. I'll just get a marine back in a shuttle to tow me...

"Tactical computer is destroyed."

At this point, I nodded calmly, and engaged the autodestruct sequence, ignoring the crew's pleas for calling a commercial tow service.

Moral of the story: never just assume your shields are up. They're rather important.

I got really POed once. Ordered my CC to attack some little fighter. It was basically a one on one. The weirdest fight I ever had. Fighter flys straight at my CC and my CC straight at him. At about 15k they slow down to a crawl (about 200) closure rate and continue shooting at each other (all while flying head on), then when they come to about 8k they just stop and sit there shooting their guns at each other. I am sitting there and thinking, "this pilot has nerves of titanium" my shields are starting to drop to about 20% so I am starting to worry. Then my shileds drop to about 10%, by that time I am very POed. Then my crew gets some brains and starts turning and accelereting, about 15 seconds later I blew the fighter appart. That was the weirdest fight I ever had and lasted about 3 minutes.

Captain's log stardate 12-10-2001

After getting enough credits to upgrade my engines, nuclear reactor, shield and armor, I decided to pick a fight to test out my new systems. As my launch base was Pixan, Lennen, I decided to go buzz Spectre.

Once in the system, I started my EMD and jumped towards Spectre while putting 6 vagrants on FATAL designation. Once I came out of hyper, I immediately started my patented Malaysian Laser Fire Dance on Spectre. Spectre accidentaly destroyed one of its own Violon, at which time I switched off EMD. 30 secs later Spectre blew .

I started chasing the other Violon and managed to disable it. Then I thought what the heck brought down a Violon and a Starbase without even a scratch and made a beeline towards the Pyron ODS. FATAL it with 2 Perseus with EMD up to prevent any lock ons. Sorry Insurgents forgot to switch off my PTA.

Just as I was within 100 km from the ODS my systems I lowered EMD, grinning in anticipation. Immediately I started taking damage without warning and there were like at least 10 intruders on board against my 5 marines.

Needless to say I started to make a beeline back to base. Unfortunately everything was down to 0%, radiation leaks everywhere, all computer systems down, shuttle 2 was destroyed, together with my flight engineer on board, 3 marines down.

Luckily I had launched shuttle 1 for cargosweep before I started attacking and I immediately ordered it to tow me to Pixan. In the tow orders->priority list I noticed that there were 3 stormcarriers out there. And my TO didn't even say anything out about it. That broad will get her upcoming as soon as my transporter comes back online.

Anyway my trusty shuttle towed me to Pixan and I managed to repair the nuclear reactor, its core and the cooling systems. Bearing in mind of something I read about not staying in a station for more than 2 minutes. I immediately launched just in time to see Pixan blow up.

Again I ordered my trusty shuttle to tow me to Wraith. The bugger couldn't RTB as the shuttle launch bay was 0%. And I arrived near Wraith just in time to see it blow as well. Talk about bad luck or shall i say good luck.

Right now I'm repairing all my systems in Velari with the Red Condition: Evacuate sign hanging over my head.

Next time I'll get those SOB stormcarriers after I get rid of my TO first.
