The longest game I played was a ter/mil garid with the 1.04 patch, and it lasted for about 15 days before I met a spectacular end.

I took the long, slow rought through stable hyperjumps. Taking my time, I destroyed any raider or insergant space station on the way. All resistance I encountered was easily eliminated.

My luck changed when I entered cyron. The valkerie took little notice of me when I worped over to thier station and destroyed it. Although my enemies did not persue me, they would remember my deeds in the future.

After trashing some gamulian ships in Regulus, I made the jump to Omega Centaur. Static ripled across my screens, but I plaid little attention to that at the time. I failed to notice that tail tell clue as I made my way to Otura-6. My final mistake was approaching the station orbiting the planet.

The valkerie remembered me. On my approach to the station, fighters began to appear. Fighters were still being launched as I consentrated my fire on the station. I failed to take note of the fighters appearing out of no where. What I did notice, was the wall of missles unleashed on me, and the wave of beam fire following me like a deathly stage light.

I counted 20 fighters before they converged on me. The fighters seemed like they were all working together, attacking in unison and scattering when I came about. A river of missles were flowing at me.

I tried to escape by making planet fall. The fighters followed me, doging me with every turn I made. My shields failed, and ion bolts made stripes on my hull. Systems started failing, crew started screaming, and then an explosion in the bridge blew me out into the corrider.

I remember my vision blury, trying to clear the blood and smoke out of my eyes. My ears were ringing, but I know I heard the electronic voice of the ship's computer talking about the reactor going bad. Evacuation sirens were wailing, but there was no way I could get off the ship. I saw Resign make a dash down the corrider, dissapearing off into the smoke. I smiled, I knew the bastard would die before he got to what was left of the launch bay.

I picked myself up off the floor and crawled to a port window. Through the smear of smoke and my own blood, I got a look at the ground rushing up to me. The engines were still runing and on full throtle.

My last thought as commander of my ship, was about how large my crater would be.

My game's not going so good:

After upgrading to Windows XP, I've lost the ability to use a 'profiler' for my joystick. Hence, I can no longer 'swap axis's' to be able to make my stick work the way I'm used to in flight sims.

Try as I might, (3 days trying), I cannot get used to the 'reversed yaw/roll' combination this game uses.

Much to my dismay, my upgrade to XP, done for this game in particular, has made this game unplayable.

BCM is the best game I currently own, but it'll be gathering dust on my shelf, until I either find a solve for this problem, or just plain give up over the frustration.

For the record, after showing off the game to a pair of gaming friends, they decided not to buy the game after seeing how the stick functions. Their quoted opinion: "Very strange way to set up the stick. Too bad there are no options to set the stick up as like."

I'd consider dropping back to Win98SE, if it didn't cost me so much to buy XP.

Bye folks, it's been fun while it lasted.

Here are some possible solutions to your problem:

1: Download system commander and set up a dual boot. Now you have win98SE.

2: Buy a new joystick. If you paid for winXP, you can pay the extra $30 for a joystick with programable axis.

2: Grin and bere it. While your whining about a stipid joystick, there are dozens of people playing on minimum spec computers that crash every 15 minutes and they won't stop playing for anything.

Dual boot could be a way: But I upgraded to XP specifically to (hopefully) fix a set of problems with this game.

I'd consider a new stick, but my new MS Sidewinder Force Feedback isn't just a 30$ stick, and replacing it with an equal would cost just as much.

Grinned and bore it as much as I could. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the hang of the reversed controls. (I suspect 15+ years of hard flight simming, and my age, have something to do with that).

As for whining, guess I am, a little. My real whine is with Microsoft, who say they don't intend to make a profiler for XP for the hardware they still sell as new today. Nice way to support their new spiffy OS.

Bye for now.

Well Duncan,

That sounds like a challenge to me...perhaps all gamers ,especially those with the sidewinder series, should send some E-mails to Microsoft and let then know what we think about this policy. It would seem that maybe game developers and publishers would have a vested interest on this issue also.

Well, I dunno what to tell you. If you upgraded to XP and you're still having problems, then you might just want to consider scrubbing the system. I mean, if you did an upgrade, rather than a new install, then proceeded with the same drivers etc etc, you're still going to inherit problems. So far, I have yet to see a single person complain about game problems under WIN2K/XP. So, your assertion is quite puzzling. Further, I don't see any recent tech support postings regarding problems you are having; even though I recently setup a new thread etc.

As for the stick, well then, the stick in BCM operates as designed. I do NOT plan on changing it. If you can learn how to play a different game, you should very well adapt to the controls of that game. BCM has space and planetary environments, along with joystick controls for different crafts in both environments. The default stick mappings are quite adequate for all cases. If you don't like it, thats just too bad.

And if MS say they're not doing profiles for their stick, well, go ***** at them, please. I do NOT see what ANY of this has to do with BCM.

And I don't give flying crap about your friends. If some person decides not to buy a game (which they have YET to play) because they can't change the control scheme, well then, their loss ain't it?

Now, please get OUT of this thread so that it can go back on topic. When I come back, I'm deleting EVERY off-topic post in here. This is NOT a tech support thread, nor is it a thread to lament about what you can and cannot do in BCM. If you are NOT in the game, then you CAN'T post about How well your gaming is going. As such, ANYTHING short of that notion, is OFF TOPIC. Didn't I recently restrict your posting for just THAT?

...and your sys info profile isn't even updated. It still shows your older stats, though you claim to have upgraded to winXP. C'mon Duncan, I'm running OUT of patience here. I truly am. I mean, I know you're an age old gamer and all (assuming your profile is not a load of bollocks), but you've really got to keep up.

Mining the planet near Erindi in order to buy all artifacts while training my crew for a strike on Galcom HQ and Earth with a RANDOM. Halfway there. My crew is getting smart, even that Combat Officer guy. Already captured New America for the Gammulan Empire (although I only got 300 XP for it) Death to the Terrans!

*This was brought to you by the Death to Terrans Fan Club*

(Gets back to helping his officers learn what a R...A...N...D...O...M is)

Every station hostile to Gammulan Military ships in a straight path between Erindi and Earth have been captured, including but not limited to New America, Galacom HQ, Orion Station, and Genesis. All artifacts have been bought and/or installed, multiple Empirian Stormcarriers, Megarons, and Violins have been destroyed. All ODS in Earth and Moon have been destroyed. All missile silos loaded with Questors and Ralix missiles. Over 10 million credits extra are in my possession. Over 1000 Plutonium and Radine on board, and over 200 iridium. Ship has enough power to cloak for about 30 minutes, be shielded for over a few hours, maybe a day, and enough radine to stay powered for multiple years. All systems for all craft at 100%. Only damage incurred throughout my entire mission so far has been to OC1 which must have been damaged VERY LIGHTLY in an intruder battle. Ships from Generis and GALCOM HQ are now escorting me. Crew is currently doing research on the RANDOM in order to gain 100 AI to destroy the Moon and Earth. Rank is Strategic Commander with FC&C. Long live the Gammulan Empire!

************ NEWS FLASH **************

04/10/3010

Today, Tacops Commander Brion McGregor was named Supreme Commander of Galcom Miltary Forces in a small ceremony held on the newly captured PARIX Starstation which orbits LV115 in the Gammula system. Attending the ceremony were elements of the newly constituted "Dragons Fangs" Task Force, which is comprised of ships captured during Operation "Highland Fury", McGregors blitzkrieg-like attack into Gammulan Space.

McGregor's success in this unanticipated drive for the Gammulan homeworld is most certainly the reason for this unprecedented promotion.

Sources close to McGregor say that upon hearing the news, The new Supreme Commander immediatly sent a communique to Galcom HQ inquiring about his predecessor, To which the reply was,"Derek who?".

As this report was being written,We've also just recieved word that shortly after the ceremony Supreme Commander McGregor lauched another attack. This time on the Huge GAMMULA Starstation in near-orbit around Gammula 2, and that he has been victorius once again, capturing the station and securing the local space around Gammula 2.

We intend on keeping a close eye on the new Supreme Commander and will be sending you up to date reports as events unfold here at the front.

Supreme Commanders Log

04/10/3010 10:05

It's kinda weird being Supreme Commander. Words I've never used before like "Sheesh" and "Siddown" have crept into my vocabulary. Not to mention phrases like " It'll be ready when it's ready,..and it ain't ready" and "You have been warned", to name a few.

Probably the worst part is all this E-mail and letters from these barely coherent commanders who obviously need help removing their heads from their "third point of contact". Sheesh!! Then , they slip up to me and try to tell me how to run this campaign!!! Like Shermans March to the Sea, I've left a flaming trail of death and destruction across the Gammulan Quadrant and the STORMDRAGON now sits in orbit around the Gammulan Homeworld raining nuclear ruin down upon our Foe, and they have the gall to want to give me tactical tips!

--------------------------------------------------

Let's see, How Well is my Game Going

Asset : Megaron GCV-STORMDRAGON

Date : 04/10/3010 10:05

Rank : Supreme Commander

Violations : 0

Finances : 332,643,625

Inventory : 61,355,625

( this inventory doesn't appear to count the 481 OTS missiles that I have in my Cargo Pod...The real total of my inventory + Finances would be somewhere around 1.2 BILLION Galactic Credits)

Experience : 311,861

Medals :

Star of Merit = 1

Commanders Shield = 1

Order of the Wraith = 1

Combat Shield = 9

OTS launches : Around 35+

Neat stuff

What do you know, the Gammulans left 4 bright shiny new STORMCARRIERS at the Gammula station for me to play with.

IT is SO cool to see this on your tactical crew screen!

SUPREME COMMANDER...............ON STATION

Derek, Thank You once again, I'm having a blast.

* BTW no cheats were used in this game *

LMAO!!!

What?? No shots!??!! C'mon, we need a shot or something.

And I noticed no RANDOM weapon use is logged? What!? Don't tell me an SCMDR in GALCOM is taking the moral high ground.

I've got shots...already converted to jpegs and everything....I just haven't gotten around to making a homepage to host them on....

No, It's not anything like that....I just don't have the AI to launch a RANDOM yet......I started my run with 523 OTS missiles onboard....I thought that would make up for the lack of the RANDOM

You might want to consider what that other almost-court-martialed commander did in that other thread (to his prisoners). Launch a couple of drones and have your officers escort the drones. And just before they are about to drop dead from exhaustion, bring them back to the ship, let them rest and send them back out. In no time, you should have high AI officers.

This post in no way condones the mistreatment of NPCs. So, YMMV

Thats how it was supposed to look like. Until I ran into problems with removing and replacing the planet (ala destroyed station). I'll probably do that for XP1 and just replace the planet texture with some burned out one. Not sure yet. The effect is still in the engine, I just have it disabled.

Also, the final version would have been aligned along the X axis so that it looks like that opening sequence to Armageddon movie.
