Oh let's see. Server 4. I jumped into proconz. MArvin was hugging the station as usual but a syr/cri was attacking the ODS. I used the TLM menu to attack and killed the syrcri. Then someone else attacked me; shields went down quick but I used the menus to make him enemy and took him down as well. MArvin saw the whole thing. But his last fighter got me just after I got him.

Was fun though!

Later (server two) Shingen and I went to Castrin and had a fighter joust. I had my fighters "Fly To" Somaris jumpgate and Shingen had his fighters attack mine. They turned out to be very evenly matched. I was hoping that I would have that one pilot with killer AI but it was not to be.

Still fun though.

Is server banning enabled yet?

An oddly cool thing happened early tonight ... before the chaotic free-for-all.

Right after launching to Server 4, I got a distress call from a GCV ship in need of help. I answered back and asked where he was stuck. "Procon," he replied but I couldn't see anyone on my Tac scope. So I directed him to send out a distress call. I still couldn't see him.

After he explained that he was planetside, I went into TacOps, found him beaming out an SOS, and set waypoints.

Before I could jump, an ICV player popped into the area and targeted me. Well, I figured I had better things to do so I continued down to the planet. But, before breaching the atomosphere, I warned the poor guy on the surface that he would probably experience lag ... affecting who-knows-what.

Unbeknownst to me, the insurgent somehow second-guessed my intentions. Not more than a few seconds after I spit out below the clouds and locked on to the distressed ship, I got the klaxton.

What surprised me is not so much that the insurgent showed up but that we were on the planet and seeing each other with zero lag. I spotted the stranded GCV right away and, at the same time, he called out a talley on me. When the ICV entered, we picked him up right away ... the GalCom commander thereupon demanded immediate rescue.

And targeting was perfect. Not only did the insurgent get a proper faceful and flee the scene but the tow worked like a charm. If, after hauling him into space, the pilot hadn't accidently hit Alt+E, he would've survived to fight another day.

Your fighters were jumping around in TacOps. My ICs could never get a weapons lock on any of yours.

I think some missles hit, but my ICs were firing into empty space, and your ICs were jumping all over.

Isn't there a way to script pilot AI in MP? They all really need to be 30+ to be of any use.

Yes, but only on the debug server. You just click on the person in the map and use the menu to kick him. I didn't finish it, thats why its not in the release build.

My plan is to put in a client voting system, otherwise only the server op would be able to ban people. The IP address of the banned person would be recorded in a ban list and they will never be able to join that server again (as long as that log file exists).

Why? Was someone being an ass on the server?

v2.00.08 contains some tweaking I've been doing to the packets, but its still not quite where I want it to be yet, thats why its not documented in the VCF. I hope to go back and finish that once I'm done with the recent critical issues.

Doesn't that give a warning if you are a pilot and attempt to do that while not landed? If not, I need to put that back in.

Hey, Chavik.

If you're on this evening, we can try the following:

1. Enter Castrin from Tapestran gate and hold. I'll enter from Procon and hold.

2. In turn, fill six cargo pods and launch them into space. Put all your shield fuel in one of them and all your cloaking fuel in a second. In the other four, put anything else you'd like ... just as long as it has one item in it.

3. Leave all other power and manning options as they were when you entered the game.

4. On the signal, scramble your shuttles to retrieve as many pods, yours and mine, as possible ... while I do the same.

See if one of us ends up with a major tactical advantage.

Our good buddy wolf57. Logging in as insurgent then killing me. I'll jut have to watch my back more closely. Perhaps he'll calm down.

I'm not sure if I should be shocked that an incompetent and new player could that to you - an experienced player or if I should be pissed just because its Thursday.

...he's still in your XFire friends list

Nope, deleted him.

One doesn't expect someone friendly to turn and fire. I was fine when he was Galcom.

I REALLY hated that Empirian/Raider that killed me. Green dots all around and suddenly I'm taking damage. By the time I cycle thru targets and figure out who it is I'm toast. Hehe.

ah, you were both on the same side. Well, there are griefers like him all over the place. Next time I see him on the server, he's in a shock.

Very cool time on Server 4 tonight!

It all began after I had logged onto the server and was readying the Aries for a deployement by taking on supplies from Farpoint.

Admiral Chavik then logged on and decided to take the Phoenix on an exploratory mission to go as far as he could. I bid him a safe journey as he headed off towards the Castrin jump gate. By the time Chavik reached Foron, the Aries was ready to deploy.

I then set course with the Aries to the Castrin jump gate with the purpose of conducting battle maneuvers in Castrin. I noticed at that time that Khan and TSCavalier had logged onto the server.

I then noticed that TSCavalier and his ship, the GCV-Agamemnon had just jumped into Tapestran as I was coming out of hyperspace to enter the Tapestran-Castrin jump gate. Knowing that more than likely, TSCavalier was going to engage me, I put Aries on halt and brought her about to face the Agamemnon. TSCavalier than hyperjumped to me and I ordered my tactical officer to lock all weapons onto the Agamemnon. As he came out of his hyperjump, the Aries left loose a volley of weapons fire and the Agamemnon also engaged. In the end, the Aries turned TSCavalier's ship into an exploding inferno. By luck, the Aries didn't have a scratch of damage.

At that time, Chavik contacted me that Khan damaged his ship very badly in Raleon. I told him to sit tight and I'd bring the Aries to his position and give him a tow back to Farpoint to repair his damage.

My alarm klaxon went off again and I noticed that TSCavalier was back in Tapestran again with the Agamemnon. He again was targeting the Aries and moving toward us. I shook my head and though, "Geez, doesn't he give up?" I again targeted the Agamemnon and once again, when he exited from his hyperjump, a full volley of weapons fire from the Aries destroyed his ship.

I ordered my crew to stand down and set course through the Castrin jump gate. Once in Castrin, I set course for Foron. At about that time, I received a transmission from Chavik stating to me to halt for him just outside of the Foron-Raleon wormhole. The Aries went through the wormhole and waited. In a few minutes, the Phoenix, limping slowly with its damage, approached. I then had the tractor beam engaged and locked onto Phoenix and initiated the jump back through the Foron-Castrin wormhole.

As the Aries came through the wormhole into the Castrin system with the Phoenix firmly in tow. I noted that Kyle Antilles had just logged on. I told him the situation and asked him to please come to the Castrin system and escort us back to Tapestran. He replied he was enroute.

It was then that my alarm klaxons went off and I noticed two Terran military fighters approaching to engage me. In the flurry of excitement that followed, my PTAs were valiantly trying to fight off the fighters. Also, a cloaked vessel was detected nearby. Between the fighters and the cloaked vessels, the Aries began to suffer much damage. In fact so much damage so quickly, that before we knew it we were destroyed..along with the Phoenix.

Now that was a very good time I had! I only wish that I could have completed the mission and returned the Phoenix back to Farpoint safely. I'm sure Chavik can fill in the details on what transpired on his side.

Yup, wanderlust struck. I went sightseeing. I saw Laststop and found the Gams. The ShoHashi started to get worried about all the GCV logging on though and started requesting help.

I headed back only to see Kahn coming after me as a friendly raider. I raced him for all I was worth but he had a faster ship. I noticed he had fired missiles at me and I used the EMD to get those off my back. I then used the TLM menu to assign him enemy. Just at that time my hyperjump came back so I jumped. He jumped too and beat me to the jumped gate. He unleashed a volley of PTA and IOD and hurt me bad but I turned around fast enough to put a hurting on him. He had recharged by that time and jumped away. I turned and headed towards the jump gate. Before I could get to the jump gate he had recharged and come back for more.

As he came back I put a big hurting on him but he did me just as well. Suddenly he disconnected not to be seen again for the rest of the night. But the damage was done. Shields gone, Engines gone, and the nuclear reactor only putting out 52% power. Tactical and logistix computer destroyed. I targeted Ralean gate and started limping towards it.

As things settled my shields slowly very slowly started coming back as did my engines. I could now move at the blinding speed of 66. My shields moved up to about 300 units and my speed slowly increased to a blazing 133.

Just about to the jumpgate two enemy raider fighters targeted me. I turned to face them stubborn as I always am and did get off a few shots and a couple missiles before they decided Empirian fighters were better targets. One raider died and the other was happily fighting the Empirians so I once again turned back to the jumpgate. Only a fighter had gotten in a good shot and taken the last of my shields.

I made it to the next system and met up with Sho. When he found me I had no shields, 450 hull, and 28% overall integrity.

PS: Wolf didn't grief me this night.

There is no such thing. At least, not to a raider.

Should have finished the job.A momentary lapse.

Yep, had to log off due to thunder and lightning passing through my local area (typical spring weather).

Actually I did log on later,on server 4, with about 8 clients, then due to problems, everyone went to server 3.

Good stuff. Looks like I may have to put in some sort of captain's log feature into the game. I was planning on doing this for BCG, but its one of those things that got dropped to the UC switch and lack of time. It would work like the mp chat interface in that you could preceed your typing with /log then type what you wanted. But instead of being sent, it would go to your own log file which you can read via Commlink or (after quitting the game) using Notepad, since it would be a pure text file.

We'll see. If not this game, maybe UCE2E

What sort of problems? The auto-gen NPCs? I'm looking into sorting that out once and for all this weekend.

Is there a way to put some sort of "clear screen" command in the chat? In TacOps, the chat window can get so large that it takes up almost all of the TacOps screen.

I know I can remove it with [ecs], but then I can't see who's saying what.

On server3, we were getting some weird hyperjump problems. We were all meeting around Freeport, and Chavik was locked in hyperspace in my VDD, enough though he saud he wasn't in hyper. He was also jumping around the screen.

He said that I was doing the same in his display, and jumping around as well. Finally, I got a CTD and went to bed.

I really like the idea of the Captain's Log option! Write your own fiction WHILE playing the game. Doesn't get any better than that!

Er, I am sure actually it will, but nevertheless!

Sure beats the hell out of plain pencil and paper and then having to rewrite the whole thing again to get it digital.

The server ran solid most of the night, then for some reason, after I got destroyed towing Chavik and logged back on, I would get a CTD when I'd enter the jumpgate to Procon from Tapestran. I'd log back on and the same thing happened. I believe a couple of the other Insurgents had the same problem. Marv logged on and we explained to him what was happening and he offered to enter Tapestran through the same gate. He had no problems. I honestly don't know what was causing this, I'll have to see about replicating it. Weird.

That would be cool! It's sorta hard to remember the details in the heat of battle and couple of beers in you!

Know i'll probably get crucified for this

But this captains log thingy sounds really cool i've been doing some pretty indepth AAR's just lately and been able to see details in commlink would be a useful reminder especially in the heat of combat.

I've lost track of the number of times my pen has flown across the room

Maybe something along the lines of the messages you get when a probes present in the region. That's all for now while I go and hide just in case.
