mfh
I need to get my asumptions straightened out. Have read the manual, but have not yet connected all the dots. As I understand it roam mode is completely free form. I am however asuming that there will be missions that I can do in this mode. Is this correct? If not, the rest of this post can be ignored. How do I get notified that a mission exists? Periodicaly request ACM missions? Can I ignore a mission? What happens if I fail a mission? ACM stands for Advanced Campaign Mode. Does that mean that a mission once accepted is a long trek with multiple objectives, or is it just one short mission? Any help appreciated. If this is all written down I would appreciate pointers to where I can read about it. If it is in the manual it went over my head and I need to be told what part to read until I understand it. /mfh, who is slowly learning some of the basic things in the game. Banquet
rp/ Come on lad, you're a starship captain! Years of training have led to you being entrusted with a major asset of the fleet. Your orders are clear.. protect your allies, distrupt your enemies! If you need orders, son, maybe you'd be better off on one of our PTA stations.. no Captain should ever be asking for orders in a universe as tumultous as ours!! rp/
Guest
In Roam, you are free to do whatever you want. Explore, trade, attack, whatever, no orders, no one will tell you what to do. You go out, do it and get payed, not bad if you ask me...LOL If you want orders and missions, play the scenarios. In Roam mode, it's all about having fun, it's a HUGE universe, go explore it. Took me 3 weeks of just exploring before I finally figured out what it was I really wanted to do. What was that you ask? To take out and take over as many space stations as possible, build me a gigantic fleet and destroy ALL enemies. Yes, this was in BCM, but it sure looks like it's gonna be even more fun in UC. Oh, and you better upgrade the heck out of your ship before you even think of taking on a space station. They will wipe you out of space with a basic battlecruiser or carrier of any sort. Just go ahead and try for Pixan, I dare you!! LOL Or go after New America, yeah right!! LOL UPGRADE, I cannot stress this enough, or you will get pummeled like no ones business!! mfh
Okies, got the picture (I think). Not sure how you can do roam mode as a fighter pilot then. Guess I fall a bit short in the imagination department. I think roam might be a bit to free for me then. I don't think I would make a good commander without at least some guidelines from my superior officers. Back to the campaign for now. /mfh
Banquet
I've only ever played roam mode as a commander (i.e carrier, cruiser, armed or unarmed transport) Believe me, there's plenty to do. Infact just getting from point A to point B without being stripped of your major systems (and self dignity) is quite a challenge! The way I play is usually starts like this; Take command of the biggest (super) carrier available. Use Tacops to assign deploy drone waypoints to all shuttles (after I assigned 1 marine and 1 sys engineer to each shuttle) Kit up about a dozen marines to prep for combat Assign another dozen marines to searching detail Assign any co-pilots to piloting duties on any unassigned fighters Launch 2 fighters to patrol and 2 to escort carrier Crew training exercise.. when shuttle 1 returns from drone deployment, me and half a dozen marines go planetside for some training Cut power to launch control (pesky boarders!) Tell Resnig to go find the nearest KFC Wait for all mining drones to complete ops Collect drones Depart planet Dock at nearest space station Sell minerals collected by drones Feel temporarily rich Realise I'm not rich when I see the price of replacement parts Spend money on parts, armour, shields, power resources Feel quite good, go out and explore Die in a really cool battle Restore game, plan ever more complicated ways of dying in battle

Gol_Stoan
Speaking of KFC, what does the HF have to be before a crew member actually gets hungry enough to eat one of those funny tasting nutripaks? Eclipse
genereally varies depending upon AI level IIRC.
Grizzle
Nah you can do it MFH!!!. Remember, Space, the Final Frontier. Your job is to boldy go where no man has gone before. The reason there are no missions in ROAM is because they create themselves. No you won't be doing escort (though you could if you imagine it's required), but if you just hop in your ship and head for a planet or solar system the game will give you plenty to deal with. Set out to explore and mine distant worlds, take a Flux field (if you survive you will be guaranteed a story to tell just attempting to get back to Galcom). Imagine you've recieved an SOS from a planet and go investigate. Or simply cruise the Universe enforcing your race's rules. As Galcom Military one of my first tasks after beefing up is to go take out Pixan station, it's a good way to disrupt enemy supply lines. I do this as a way to protect my trade route to Velari in Polaris. Simply keeping the trade route safe and clear is plenty of work. Once you play this way you'll never want to be fed a scenario.
