I have a very good solution to this: keep your TV by your computer with a healthy supply of good tapes/DVD's. Whenever you come to a part of the game which takes a really long time with little interaction, pop something in and have an in-flight movie. I mean, what do you think your AE does when there's not a lot of action on the bridge?

...or you could start the repairs while on the station and then launch and let your engineers take care of the rest. 80% is not inoperable yet.

I usually repair the systems up to around 80% (depends on the systems, I might let it be even lower) on stations and then let my own engineers finish the job.

Well, I managed to blow my CC(BCMK3 ICV Starlight Vengeance) half to bits...to the extent that it took me the better part of three hours to repair from only thirty seconds of combat(amazing what a few missiles can do to a carrier that forgot to turn on its EMD). I made the mistake of not repairing the tractor beam, and regretted it when I came across a few disabled fighters just asking to be dragged in. In the end I had to settle for delivering them(and a Super cruiser) via shuttle to the nearest station.

A few hours repairing sure beats escorting your unshielded shuttles through a warzone. It may seem like a long time, but it is well worth it, as failing to repair something may mean further delays when your ship is actually at risk of further damage. Not to mention the shuttles.

Welcome to 'THE GAME'.

I love to repair my ship with my own engineers, that is the only training they get.

I usually will dock my ship at a station, schedule all the repair jobs, exit station, appoint system engineers, select a planet with enemys, deploy OC, steal enemy OC, and kick their base. That is with i got time to play.

Otherwise, i will play with my kid while waiting. There is alway things to do.

I love to find a nice flat spot on a planet somewhere and send out the mining drones to do lengthy repairs. Especially when I have "a couple" things. I make runs with the shuttle for parts, and to sell minerals. It's also a good time to rest and train the crew, and go out with my AE to explore.

last time i was messed up i lost half of my systems completely... crew was living off of about 30% aux life support. Used all my on-board tools to get a shuttle out and towed myself to a station. TOOK AN ENTIRE SATURDAY!!! lol. Went shopping, had lunch, went to my church for youth group, had dinner, and my repairs were finally done...
