some sort of cheat

yeah, i lost one recently too, waiting to see what will happen with it. its full, and running around on the moon in the lennen region. I dont care much, as I do have another....and I have pretty much stopped mining, a while back. Never know when one might need one, though. I have noticed, they only disappear when full, or it seems. I do not think it has much to do with its range from the command ship.

if I remember tigerclaw, not to really like make it a who's right who's wrong sort of thing, but you did "complain" in one of your earlier posts about your great difficulty in locating drones, you've now clarified 10 seconds 2 seconds, but you used the words difficulty at first.

quote:

I just have to set up a point so I know where to find them... I wish they'd show up on global view of TACOPS. It can be a pain trying to track them down... luckly by shifting the plane in a closer zoom you can find them, then zero in and zoom out so you can set up waypoints.

ring any bells?

Be careful quoting people... no where in that did I say difficulty. However I did say pain.

Difficult and a pain are two different things.

Just like going through basic.

It is 'difficult' to push yourself to run those two miles when just a month before the only time you spent excersizing was the short jog to the mailbox. It is a PAIN to have a drill sergent yelling at you over some silly little thing...

And trust me... They like to yell.

Drill Sergents work in odd ways. Their goal is to purely 'F*CK' with your head. The interesting part is you can't "F*CK" back. So you're screwed.

"Well, you're starting to get pretty stupid here privates. Now we can all go and act stupid. But if you're gonna start acting stupid, I'm gonna start acting stupid, and then you're gonna lose because I can be MORE stupid."

-One of my Drill Sergents.

And when he says that, you dare not jack with him. Because what he means is: If you keep doing this half @ssed, I'm gonna sit here and take the time to get you to do it right, even if I have to stand here and make you do pushups all night...

Trust me on this. An overhead arm clap seems simple enough... after the first forty four-count. (That's eighty actual claps. Two claps in each four-count) Then you realize he's not stopping, and you're going on fifty... Arms must be getting tired there...

Wheeee... still going SIXTY. Yeah, you can't stop yet. FEEL THE BURN.

"ZERO!"

What the hell? We started over from zero?

And thus you continue... and before you realize it... You've done two hundred overhead claps, your arms feel like they're about to fall off, and it hurts like friggin hell. And you know what the really good part is? As much as you would love to, YOU BETTER NOT STOP!!!

Because by law, you must listen to the orders of the superior you are assigned to. An overhead arm clap is a legal order. And being ordered to do it is legally binding by your contract, medical condition permitting. (In other words, if you can do it, you're doing it whether you like it or not.... unless you like a court-martial.)

It's pure stupidity, but it's the kind of stupidity you REALLY don't want to mess with... and thus. It's a PAIN!!!

Alright... this thread's WAY off on a tangent now. So I'll tractor it back on topic.

CHEATS!

According to what I read, all cheats are in the manual?

Random british accented fool: But I dun' see anay' chates!

And niether do I. However, a more prudent question to ask... is there an add on command line to the program that allows me access to perhaps the artifacts or super AI crew right out of the shipyard? GBS-III not withstanding.

Or perhaps a modifyer that allows me the ability to doctor my save game stats in such a way that it would indeed be 'cheating'.

Hey... don't kill me for asking. SOMEONE has to bring the topic back from the dead. Even still, there are just some days I'd LOVE to get my mits on RANDOM, and toast earth for spawning the human race.

"Welcome to the Human Race, there is no finish line. On your mark, get set, GO."

-Myself.

My 9 gig C drive just crashed and burned five minutes ago. I bought it in 1997. Do you know how hard it is to find your drones when your Command Craft's 9 gig hard disk is dead?!

Anyway, before I was 100% sure that I would be able to find my drones on the support menu, I wrote down the coordinates displayed in the bottom right of the planet view screen as you move your mouse over the planet, then clicked. The second thing I did was deployed a drone, then experimented to make sure it would show up on the Zoom-->Support Units menu. It only takes like 5 neurons firing to figure things like this out. If you see coordinates in a game, they might be there for a reason.

Are you guys repulsed by the old pen and paper? I can't imagine not having pens, papers and manuals next to my 'puter for just about anything I'm doing...

Anyway, XP has reinstalled now. But my faith in my 9 gig drive is not very high anymore, and the last time I checked there weren't any under the Spare Parts menu in TradeCom in the Pluto system I need to get the mothership back on line, my addiction is driving me!

Technically UC_TUTORIAL.PDF is part of the manual, and it is mentioned in there. Otherwise how else would I know there's a way to access a cheat mode?

There should be NO instance during which a drone would be lost. If you deploy it on hilly terrain and playing at a low frame rate, it may end up under the terrain but not be able to drive back up. Thats why in an earlier patch the game will warp it back to the top of the terrain if this happens.

So, if drones are still being lost under the terrain and not due to commander incompetence, I need a saved game of it. If I get a saved game in which I can locate the drone, the person sending it in will pay.

Would you like the save game before, or after the drones suddenly dissappear?

I launched four, and had them in the SUL moniter. Then they would dissappear at 70 k out. I wondered if it was my sensors... But no, my shuttles refused to pick them up, they were reported in tactical as 'deployed on earth'

and I even took a fighter out and patroled the area roughly 75 k in a circle around my ship...

Here, I've even got a pretty screen shot of the weirdness... important factors are highlighted with red.

A shot of the carnage

The two highlighted parts are the map, where the ACTUAL locations for the drones had been before they got funky, and the distance registered on the currently targeted drone. The target display window on the right says no target even though I have the target selected. I will pack up the save games tonight... as now I have only one point five hours to get ready and get to work...

Oh and... how do you RECOVER a savegame? I've got a game I had been playing, and it suddenly stopped appearing in the selector. (Player name and all, but the save files are still there.)

I read the Troubleshooting faq I dont think I am putting the ( -I ) in the right place in the command line because it keeps saying it is not valid. Also dose any one care to talk about speeding up time? I have read countless threads on this I found in the search bur in every one of them people get off topic and never answer the question. Speed up time?

Thought I might get my two cents in *grins*

I saw the same thing a while back but I removed and reinstalled/repatched and it hasn't come back. I was assuming it was a bad install on my machine.

Ughh.... Cheats would be neat but the game would be ruined. Its no fun being the doomer of all worlds in this game. Cause if you kill everything there nothing to do. You could launch a gunship but what would there be to kill. You could mine for minerals. but where would you sell it. You could get filthy rich from cheats and then buy tons o OTS missiles. but then all planets would be gone from RANDOM. Cheats are pointless in a simulation. Ok. Mechwarrior did good with em. But thats different. In that your in giant robots and all you do i kill other stuff. The only thing you do to interact with objects is Blow em up and tell em to follow you.

My ship has all the upgrades and a loada money, but alas I have worked so hard to get it all together the thought of giving someone an easy ride at my expense doesnt appeal to me , im sure many of the other commanders here would feel the same.

No offence meant, just voicng my opinion

im so smart here goes ok do any of you guys have a fully loaded cc with lots of money in a save if so why dont we all just copy it and play off of that???

Because people prefer different types of ships. Its not like BC3000ad where you only had one craft to choose from

Cheats, is what made me leave the fp shooter mp games.

Not worth the headache for other players, to have to deal with...and no fun using them yourself....unless, you just wanna shoot the ducks...then you can always hunt ants, with a shotgun, if you want, but whats the point of cheats anyway? If you dont wanna actually PLAY the game, just sit back and watch someone else play..or watch a sci-fi movie...no effort, or thinking involved there...(just my humble opinion, on the subject of cheats)

how can you determine what is fun for someone else?

well, truthfully, I can't. If you ENJOY winning through cheating...maybe you can explain to me, how it can be so much fun...inflicting such aggrivation on people who want to play a fair, and challenging scenerio. These people get gratification through achievement, based on intellect.

What gratification is there...for a person, who achieves nothing beyond ruining the game for others???

While I agree cheating in multiplayer is odious, I can't see the harm in anyone doing anything they want in SP. Morrowind is a perfect example; I used the editor to add interesting spells and artifacts, to flesh out the world. My son (11) used it to make a kick arse sword so he can kill everything. I had fun. He had fun. No harm.

In BCM, I always played in debug mode to get time compression (OK, I got corrupt games too. My own fault and I don't whine about it) I also had Fleet C&C in that mode (and the ability to destroy any target, etc.) I almost never used the C&C, only to "request" escorts occasionally, or to flesh out a battle. In short, to make things more fun, as I defined fun at any given instant.

To me it's ludicrous to criticize how anyone chooses to play when they're playing by themselves. Maybe it's because I'm definitely a Role-Player. To me it's more about a good session of "make believe" then proving my ability to myself or anyone else.
