Marine Types

I've searched for terms marine, type, mobile, elite, recon, assault, medic, medical, engineer and engineering in various combinations.

I have been unable to find what I beleive to be a complete description of the differences between the different marine types.

Is it just their equipment?

Can medic marines treat other marines in the field?

If so, do they need a specific order, like escort to do so?

Yes, those would have been good places to include some information, but only diferences in equipment are described. I could see that in the tactical computer.

As I asked in my initial post: 'Is it just their equipment?'

Also, how do you get medical marines to treat injured personel and get the engineering corps marines to make repairs?

Or do they not actually perform any funtions suggested by their titles?

How much different does it need to be? Have you deployed an MIM and see him carrying a DTR4A rifle or run faster than an EFM?

The only marine classes which don't do anything AI related as far as tasks are concerned, are the ECM and MCM. They were designed for (a) multiplayer in which any player could assume either role and be able to perform repair/heal tasks according to the marine type (B) in single player whereby they could automatically perform their tasks (repair, heal) any other NPC that was within range and needed repairing, healing. These two tasks (repair and healing of NPCs by others or the player) were dropped features due to lack of time. They will be in the follow-up games UCHI and UCHTL. Other than that, the ECM and MCM both have weapons and will perform as regular marines while not doing any repairing or healing of others. NPCs were later taught (in a patch) how to use supply stations, making the need for ECM or MCM marines in the field, unnecessary.

Why not abandon marine types all together and give them something like "Deploy Profile" similar to fighters? That way one could have 20 MI or RF or EF or Pick-and-Mix marines, depends what Resnig had dressed them into. Oh my, the old boy would love to dress them into heavy ground combat gear (instead of light guard detail)when the intruders get on board so his guys could blow a few more holes in my ship with their high caliber rifles and rocket launchers just to piss me off or give more work to do for the system engineers. I probably should send Paul back to the brig just for making me think about him.

- Resnig!!!, get a squad of five dumbest marines ready for Ground Combat Training Mission on the double, now!...

- Resnig!!!, I said dunbest, not the most tied ones! Go to your brig, you're pissing me off again!
