To mug someone or get a cargo pod that is too close to an enemy,
1. deploy a shuttle
2. wait for someone to grab the pod and hyper out
3. grab the transport
4. have the shuttle come to you
5. destroy the transport and grab the pod if it spawns
Note: Pods don't always spawn

Get more Xp if you just take the transport to a nearby friendly base.
On a similar note, you can do this with any ship in the game. Just deploy a shuttle, have it latch a tractor beam and take it a starbase.
Shuttles can outpace all craft, except for some fighters. Additionally, most commanders disregard a hostile shuttle, in favor of a 'fighting' taarget. This means 8 out of ten times, your shuttle wont even get shot at on its appraoch.
In other words, you can conquer the galaxy with just a bay of shuttles and a willing starbase.

except shuttles have no jammers! so if you are mugging someone, the survivial of the transport is actually an ISSUE lol

Ooh. If shuttles had EMD or Cloak they would be unstoppable They are overpowered as it is ^_^

...dunno why you guys do things the hard way. I wanna mug a ship, I just ALT+E, fly over to and stand on top of my CC. Then yell out ...gimme all your shit or else!!.
