Sweet!

They must know something that I don't. And since I have the code, well then...

The demo will be out in October - but it won't October as in next week October.

Well then that leaves us with the other three weeks to choose from. Knowing how you are about getting things right before release I'd say the fourth week in OCT. . Which is fine by me even if it gets pushed into a november release for the demo. Like you have said time and again "it's out when it's out".

I'm looking forward to the demo. Now how to explain the loss of bandwith to my users...hrmmm. I'll tell them I'm copying an important patch file to prevent a virus infection...yeah...thats what I'll say.

Im looking forward to seeing this Demo, but am worried by some of the commment in the recent interviews(?) which kind of imply a little that SC's commitment to producing a MMORPG or MMOG or basically a persistant universe version of the game may be waining. and so it may be a good few years before we see it come of age.

Just my humble opinion thats all

Wow, a few months out of the loop and look what happens Well, who cares what SC calls it (as has been adequately expressed elsewhere); we all know this is a "Derek Smart Simulation".

BTW, the new UC box looks really cool. Hm...out of all the box art depicted on the product page here, I still vote the art on BCM:G best. There's just something about the simplicity of that black and orange contrast with that silver cruiser that looks good.

Looking forward to the demo.

erm, thats not true at all. In fact, there is an upcoming interview at gamegossip.com which sheds more light on this. My plan is simple, get UC out of the way; finish/ship the XBox title by 2004 holidays, focus on the MMOG title and hopefully get it sorted for 2005 holidays.

Thank you SC,
I was a little worried, but 2005 isn't too bad.
It just seemed from the emphasis on the Xbox title, the tone was a little "time to move on" rather than "show EA & CCP how to do it properly"

go on give us a clue when the UC Demos due (ok tell us the exact date if I'm honest), the anticipation is killing me.
(next bit probably totally off topic but...)
please please please include proper stn or property ownership for players, walking round stations, station design and lots of other yummy stuff. in the mmorpg type thinggy

I don't think there really is any news at this point. The online version is too far away for details.

If you are interested in the series, I'd suggest picking up BCM Gold or wait for the UC demo which is due out soon.

This thread was created for the discussion of UC until it's release. The next person to create a new topic asking about this feature or that - when you can just post it in this thread or over here - is going to have his posting rights revoked.

Is there still going to be a 2D interface for UC? Such as a seperate screen to display the logistix computer, tactical computer etc...
And if so, have these features been changed slighlty or significantly becasue of the trouble-free modifying to UC?

The Frontend interface remains the same. They worked before. Work now. And they weren't subject to any revisions in terms of operation.

There are some revisions here and there, but most are in the Start New Game screen e.g.

...and over 25+ similar enhancements and revisions to the Frontend interface modules.

uhm, did I mention that you can switch to the turrets (guns or missiles) of any asset you switch (depending on career, EP etc) to?
These pics show me in the turret of a naval carrier. I was flying a Blackghost gunship, landed on the carrier deck, switched to it (I was able to sail it elsewhere), then manned its gun turrets and missile launchers (you can switch to any/all of an assets turrets in this manner)

...then again, your question was about the Frontend inteface, but I just thought I'd throw this gulp inducing information as well. Most people are NOT going to be prepared for this game. Not even the vets. And what I have described is only the tip of the iceberg.

Controlling turrets is an awesome idea, and something I've always wanted. This should make capital ship combat much funner IMO.

We actually had that in BC3K, but since you only had access to a Battlecruiser, you could only switch to one of its three turrets. In UC if an asset (regardless of type) has a turret, you can switch to it. e.g. if you are flying a Blackghost gunship, you can switch to its gun mounted turret and man it while the ship is in motion (hopefully you were smart enough to be stationary, hovering or with A/P turned on).

This sounds cool. If you are in an actiony mood, you can jump in the gunners seat and take control of the front lines. Or if you are in a simmy mood, you stay on the bridge. I like this.

Can all turrets on every turret equipped craft operate automatically without player assistance or is there some craft where the turret is only functional manually?
