BattleStar Galactica

Recommended Posts

I've got to say I love it. My wife and I sit on the edge of our seats every week. In fact, I wish I would have recorded season one and just watched it all at once.

The Star Trek franchise could take a lesson or two from this show.

I really liked what they did with the baltar character.

Remember guys, the original GALACTICA did NOT start at the fall of the 12 colonies. The original series began as the fleet was already fleeing the cylons.

And what they've done with starbuck was either a stroke of genious or of desperation... or both.

The religious writings say that all this has happened before and will happen again (which IMO is a freaking RIPOFF of LEXX & how KAI visits the TIME PROPHET..but oh well...) .. and in the new series they have a cylon infiltrator interrogated by female starbuck telling her that in the previous cycle their roles were reversed.. starbuck would be male interrogating a 'female' cylon (which did happen in the original series..just the female was not cylon but rather a collaborator from the outer rim settlements).

Kinky stuff.

Overall I like the new series a lot. The plot and actors are more believable in their roles and situations... the original galactica had their characters behave distant from the fact that they were being hunted down by an overwhelming force that had just nuked 12 of their planets and they only had a handful of fighters and one warship to protect their entire refugee fleet.

Tac I think the original series started at the fall of the 12 colonies. The two hour pilot covered the fall of Caprica and the rescue of the colonists. Other than that I agree with both you and Mase's assessment.

I am SO over Enterprise being cancelled!

1. I'm hoping Helo gets off planet again with Starbuck.

2. I'm glad that all the cylons (or cylon-affiliated) people we're aware of are now exposed or off the Galactica itself. Yes I realize that you could write more in as subversives, but I'm hoping that Galactica's going to be able to go forward without further internal subversion.

3. What do you think's going to happen with the government now that Adama's got Roslyn in the brig?

4. Will Season Two be the season where Apollo finally steps up and becomes as excellent a soldier as Starbuck is?

I can't wait for July either.

The finale reminded me why the Sci-Fi channel sux. Masking out nudes from the shoulders down was not cool at all.

I remember seeing a few really racy episodes of "Outer Limits" in Italy. It didn't surprise me a bit to see them again, years later on Sci-Fi, sans the racy parts.

It just isn't worth watching half a TV program.

marvin, if you want porn why the heck you watching the sci-fi channel?

Al Gore invented the internet for a reason you know.

LOL. That's not the point. The series was shot one way and the Sci-Fi channel edited it. They edit just about everything. It's like watching a movie on CBS.

http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/33_full_episode/index.html

Pretty neat. It's in a small real player box but it's the entire episode. They have deleted scenes as well. Strangely deleted scene 1 is the entire episode again but if you go to scifi.com you can navigate to the Galactica page and find it there. Even more strangely you can't find the full episode from the Galactica page but it still has a scifi.com URL so it's gotta be legit.

Questions. I have the two hour pilot on tape. The four hour mini series; is that set before or after the pilot? Or did they just chop up the mini series to make the pilot? Anyone got a neat link? Amazon.com doesn't say much but it's down to 19.99 now (if it was ever higher) and I may just have to buy it.

Hmmmm, haven't heard much on this but the NBC network is going to show two episodes 7/9/05 from 7 pm to 10 pm Central time per Yahoo! TV listings.

quote:

"Hand of God", Episode #110.

When fuel supplies dwindle, the fleet must make an attack on a Cylon-controlled tylium mine.

Sounds exciting.

quote:

"Kobol's Last Gleaming", Episode #112/113.

A supply patrol discovers a hospitable planet; Baltar, Lee and Kara find themselves in an awkward triangle; as the fleet prepares to battle the Cylons for control of Kobol, the tensions between Adama and Laura explode.

Then, the blurb I saw on TV that made me look this up mentioned something else. Season opener perhaps? Has a network picked it back up?

(coulda swore there was a different thread where I posted the free episode available via Sci Fi channel .com but I couldn't find that.)

AFIK, it is still with sci-fi and the new season starts on 7/15 @ 10pm EST.

Maybe NBC has licensed the re-run rights.

The two Hour Pilot is actually the first 2 episodes back to back.

The mini series is the starting point. Where the cylons come in and whipe everyone out except for the galactica.

Hey hey hey... complaining about narrowminded American censorship is my shtick... and don't you forget it!

You know what?

This show or any other movie/series i have seen is *always* 100x better when they focus on the actual content and drama of the series and not smut, pornography, filthy language and general immoral crapola.

No i am not talking about portrayal of real human emmotion, or real relationships, or even the occasional outburst of wrath, anger etc. There is a difference between real drama and action and reams gratuitous filth.

So yeah i am all for the cencorship of this kind of crap so i can enjoy the actual meat of the series without having to burn my freaking eyes out.

personally i think some of you need to seriously reevaluate what you find "entertaining" and "necessary" for your entertainment. garbage in garbage out and thats a fact.

I am happy with the series as it airs in the us. I have no interest in seeing any other version. It is simply the most mature and serious sci-fi show ever. The themes of family, betryal, obsession, revenge, madness, are down right Shakespearean. The sex scenes (toned down) evoke a level of reality that it's kiddie show predecessor never reached. Thats just my opinion

Shades of John Ashcroft.

Cutting a scene is editing. Optically adding a mask to portions of a scene is mutilation.

You can have your fig leaves. I'll take my art the way the artist intended it to be viewed.

I dunno, but the season premiere didn't do it for me. I had more fun with the SG-1 and Atlantic season premieres.

Peace brother. Maybe we watched different shows but I don't see as they focused on anything but trying to portray the story in as gritty and realistic way as possible. Where was the lack of drama and where was the overemphasis on the "general immoral crapola"?

I've been in the military and while I am no absolute authority on the subject(I only served for four years)I do know that swearing and casual sex happen in the military world. As such I believe that they should be portrayed as accurately as possible where appropriate. BTW the scene between Starbuck and Dr. Baltar while racy was not some glorious portrayal of casual sex. The characters were very uncomfortable right after the act and when they met in the common room/barracks while playing poker. Just because you swear doesn't make you a bad person and just because you have sex with someone for the sheer physical pleasure of it doesn't make you immoral. Neither do they make a bad TV show. Now if you are someone who swears every other word regardless of the situation and bangs someone new every night, then there is a problem and questioning the morality of someone like that is absolutely valid.

By the way, crap is a swear word and freaking is a substitute for a swear word, much like.... fraking(not sure if that's how it is spelled but you get the point).

I certainly never thought that SC. I can see where a fan of the original series(which I am) might view it as such. I went into it with an extremely open mind and was astonished at every turn. The way the new series changes and improves on the old(no I am not talking about the sfx) while keeping the most important story elements intact was and is a remarkable achievement. I am a believer all over again. I am not sanguine about all that Sci-Fi does when they choose their shows or what they do to them to get them to appeal to a wider audience(Farscape should never have been cancelled but I am ecstatic that Crighton and Erin are on SG-1 ) at least they are giving me more quality sci-fi than I have ever experienced on tv in my life!!

If I am out of line, I am sure there are plenty who will straighten me out. If I have offended, then I cry pardon.

You are right Tecno-guy-whatever. This is certainly the best night for sci-fi in TV history. I enjoyed all the shows though Atlantis and Gallatica were really it for me. I thought Atlantis was particularly strong, but really enjoyed the subtlties of BSG such as the slow burning war between Cheif Tyrol and the incompetent LT planetside. The storyline about Col. Tigh is also top shelf. on the other hand I though SG1 did a poor job of bridging the gap between the old team and the new. Claudia Black and Ben Browder will amp things up for sure as the season goes on but the first ep... just okay

It's typical hollywood rubbish.

Politically correct in making character(s) of the original series females. Turns my stomach.

Made to cater to the amoral mush brained youth of our current generation.

We don't want upstanding strong and moral leaders presented. We want drunks and seriously flawed bozos as heroes.

Made on the cheap by making most of the cylons look human. It sure saves on having metallic cylons running around doesn't it. The way it is presented.... a n y b o d y may be a cylon.

After saying all of this... it will probably be a hit considering the character of much of our society.

I'll check in on it occasionly to see what perverted twists they present, but I won't punish myself with a lot of viewing. I'll stick with SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

I'm sorry brother but I have to ask: Are you serious? I think I'd almost have an alcoholic in charge rather someone who seems so filled with vitriol and hatred. I understand that we, as a society, have many challenges ahead of us and diatribes like yours have no place in the actual application of solutions. You do help define the parameters of the issues though and for that I thank you for being you.

Once again, are you kidding me?! Why would you subject yourself to something you abhor so much? I almost think you are trying to screw with some of our heads. If so, nice job. If not then I'll say this: If you don't like don't watch it. That's the real problem is too many crying foul and not enough teaching their kids properly or making proper decisions for themselves like not watching something they don't approve of. Good gravy, you're worse than Hellbinder!
