Sad but true.I used to think we had 5-6 generations before things went down the crapper, but after 9/11 I have shortened that to "within my lifetime"...and I'm 40 so that don't leave much time.

This next part is self-defeating,I think.

I am a republican only because they are the lesser of 2 evils, but if an ACTUAL conservative/constitutional party were created, and had any chance at all of winning elections, I would join it in a heartbeat.

3rd parties don't have a chance UNLESS we support them.Picking the lesser of 2 evils is still picking evil, and I don't think that's what the Founders had in mind. The Big 2 are scared of 3rd parties, the Dems are already in a dither over whether Nader will join the fray as a 3rd party candidate.

As an aside, I don't think politicians should be able to go off campaigning for a higher office while they still hold office. They are,IMHO, in deriliction of duty. They are not doing their job,you know..running the country.

I answered the first in another thread, the second will never happen, because once someone becomes a politician, the feeling of power gets to them and they want more, therefore they will almost always go for higher office, and the only way to win that office is to be in a lower one already. If they quit the lower office and had to wait 4 years to run for the higher one, they would never get it.

The politicians run this country for themselves, and whatever will give them the most power over the most people all of the time.

That is what is going to destroy us.

I see only 2 things that might save us, or at least slow it down. 1: Remove the 17th amendment and have Senators assigned by each state legislature as it used to be. (Steve and I have thought this was a good idea for years) 2: Get rid of the income tax and go to a straight sales tax. NO HIDDEN taxes.

Those 2 items might just save us, but niether of those things are going to happen.

I didn't intend to imply they had to step down then wait for the next election cycle. The day they submit the paperwork decalring their candidacy for a higher office is the day they should be required to give up any current office.

I do agree, though, that it will not happen.
