Indecent Exposure?

Recommended Posts

What's your take on the Howard Stern affair about being dropped from the radio? I personaly didn't like his show either on Radio or TV but I think it should not have been pulled after all these years. And all this talk about also going after Cable and Satelite to clean up their act also. I'm wathing CNBC right now and all they keep bringing up is X rated programing not violence mind you but human sexuality. I myself would rather watch a program about human sexuality than violence any day. I get my violence fix from my games . Ever since that Janet Jackson fiasco. It also seems to me that these media companies are affraid to stand up to the FCC and government scrutiny. What a bunch of whimps. Little by little friends we are being corralled by our government. Should a few thousand people who complaign about shows dictate to the rest of us what's decent and what should be aired.

In no way would I be sorry to see indecent tv or radio programming to go. Although I seriously doubt anything like that will happen for Cable TV or Sattelite. You'll see a surge in parental controls ect for the internal TV networks but as far as FCC scrutiny that will fall mainly on "public" broadcasts if at all. Anything dubbed family entertainment will be under scrutiny.

As far as my own taste in televison is concerned I acted upon general logic and stopped watching since there was nothing good on. When I had moved to college I just never bothered getting a TV and now that ive thought about it there isnt much about it that I miss. If there is a movie I like I buy it on DVD to watch with my computer. Ive been remotely considering buying an HDTV and using it like a computer monitor but chances are that wont happen unless my existing monitor dies on me.

Although if I did miss something about TV that would only be the history channel.

What defines indecent? Remember early TV and movies when a show's scene was in a couples bedroom take note of how the bed(s) are arranged. Seperate that's how. Two individual beds with a night table seperating them. I see that coming back I tell ya. Also, to the religious, it's the teaching of evolution that's indecent. Does that mean if they rally the government behind them, doing the lobbying bit, and have that classified as indecent and have the government yank that from broadcasting you wouldn't care. They've already tried doing that in public schools.

I dunno about you but I love science and am an evolutionist and live off of Discovery channel, History channel, Discovery science, Discovery wings and discovery times channels oh and the BBC america channel. Anyone trying to regulate those channels I'll go T. DUDE postal on 'em!

BTW: There has been talk by the government about finding a way to go after Cable and Satelite.

Indecent is whatever you wouldnt want your 3 year old son or daughter to see or hear if that makes any sense.

Im disgusted by much of Television content and living without a TV has just made it that much more obvious to me when I do happen to see some programming at a friends house.

Just as content can be a mirror of society the content can dictate the society. Although to be honest none of the content suprises me. Sure I dont like much if any of it. But hey, I have the power...and the remote. In my case society and its "content" are exiled from my life. I get enough of my fill of it just reading the news.

I'm not a huge fan of Howard Stern although I do find myself occasionally listening to him. The real concern I have is...where does this end? I mean, what's next, restrictions on political speech? As much as I despise Rush Limbaugh's opinions, I would defend to the death his right to express them. This country was founded on many things, one of the most important being freedom of speech. Look, it's really simple, and was already stated but I will repeat for emphasis. If you don't like it....don't read it, watch it, or listen to it.

I for one will not shed a tear over Mr Sterns profane and infantile antics being closed down here in PGH. I do have a problem with the fact that Clear Channel just found out what they are pedaling. The truth is Porn is big business and the more money thay make the more difficult it will be to rid our airways of this filfth.

Cable and Satellite companies are making hundreds of millions of dollars and the purveyors of this stuff will soon have a lobby powerful enough to start legitmizing this smut. Personally, I dont know who the bigger whores are, the unfortunate porn actresses who appear on Stern's show, or the companies that buy time on the network.

America is messed up.

Complaints about Janets breast in the U.S. : 200,000.

Complaints about Janets breast in Canada: 3

That's right. Three people in all of Canada were so offended that they complained to the networks that carried the superbowl here. Then again, nudity isn't a forbidden subject in Canada like it seems to be south of the border.

I don't like Howard Stern, at all, but he has a right to free speech regardless of how juvenile he is, as long as he isn't hate mongering.

I go out of my way to watch Canadian content simply because we have a far more liberal attitude regarding our broadcast standards and what is obscene imagery/language and what is not.
