Bush or Gore...

Blades' "get to know you" discussion has inspired this thread. Please direct any complaints to him. wink.gif

I was wondering where the BC3K population stands on politics. Are you a "righty" or a "lefty"? NRA or gun-control? EPA or cheaper friggin' gas!? Two dollars a gallon here, can you believe that!?

I digress...

Cast your vote for control of the next White House today. Tell your political interests to all present as I'm hoping a hearty debate develops. To be frank, as a republican I'm not too happy with my choice this election. It seems to me that the two major candidates bare a likeness to "Dumb and Dumber". But alas, I'm voting for Dumb, err, Bush.

Don't worry if you're not in the US. Enlighten us capitalistic, democratic dogs to the ways of your world. Put your vote in for next Prime Minister or Queen of England (Blades, the queen must be a woman, I thought. You can't run!) biggrin.gif

Oh, and I know that some of you are already preparing to post "Dr. Derek Smart for President!" like mad in hopes of getting your hands on that beta. Feel free to start another thread for that as this one's serious.

Alright, armchair politicians, start your engines!

And one more thing: Dr. Derek Smart for President!

Don't cry foul. I beat you to it. biggrin.gif

hmm.. Well I like Bush (who doesn't biggrin.gif)

I think people should be able to own a gun if they want... but, I am for some kind of gun training (safety, law awareness etc) heck its easier to get a gun than it is a drivers license.

Oh and don't even talk about gas prices... we Illinoisans have the highest rates in the US (except Hawaii).

Just why was it that we kicked Saddam's ass in Kuwait anyway??? hmmmm

Heh, interesting. Like Gum's response, though. Why in the hell would be outlaw guns if it's the criminals who use them illegally, anyway? Tell a criminal with a gun "that's illegal" and see what he says...I dare you. biggrin.gif

Bush. Not for him as much as for his entourage. Give me Dick Cheney, James Baker and Colin Powell over the likes of Cohen, Allbright and Richardson.

Republicans vs. Democrats: Not much difference these days. Democrats are for enabling programs for the poor. Republicans are for safety nets for the poor. In other words, the Democrats measure success as the number of people who go on welfare, and the Republicans measure success as the number of people who come off welfare.

Democrats = liberal left. Republicans = conservative right.

Republicans are for family values. Democrats are for defending the indefensible.

Republicans are for freedom of religion. Democrats are for freedom from religion.

There is no accountability in the Democratic Party. What will be the penalty this time for the loss of nuclear secrets? A letter of reprimand to actually be put in a permanent file this time? Ooohh!! I'm shaking with fear...

There is no leadership/opposition in the Republican Party. Trent Lott is worthless. Orrin Hatch, Arlen Specter, who needs them?

Don't get me started...

I hate politics and politicians, but I have my own ideas. Like nobody should be allowed to have guns. Education and health should be free for everyone (or at least, the government should provide the necessary support for those who can't afford it). I believe that killing people to show people that killing people is wrong is wrong (in case you didn't get it I'm against the death penalty). There should be more government control on the food that we eat. I'm against affirmative action as the solution to the racial/sexual discrimination (the problem is deeper than that, in my opinion, and its the roots of the problem that should be addressed). I believe people should be allowed to sunbath naked on the beach. I think the bread is too expensive and the coke too cheap. I don't give a damn about the price of the gas (or maybe I'd say the more expensive the better, for ecologic reasons).

I guess that this kind of ideas make me more of a "lefty", correct? I don't feel like debating about it, but since you asked there you have it. As for the Bush/Gore discussion, I can't vote here in the U.S. so I won't even bother thinking about that but I'd say that you guys have a tough choice smile.gif. If you want to know who I would vote in my country ... well, that seems to be another Dumb vs Dumber choice. Fortunately, it's not a 2-party system so I can always vote to one of the little guys who don't stand a single chance to win. Some will say that's wasting a vote but I can't honestly vote for any of the 3 big parties without having the feeling that I'm doing something wrong.

Steve, one many miss in your thinking:

Republicans are more for freedom of state and constitutionalism.

Democrats are more for control of freedom and ammendment of constitution.

Republicans - more for defense of nation, leaving foreign policy as a means primarily to achieve that end.

Democrats - Foreign policy changes dependant upon majority.

Republicans - Domestic policy is dictated more by neccessity of the state.

Democrats - One has to wonder if domestic policy is dictated by foreign policy, meaning, most domestic actions must maintain the "status-quo" of foreign allied powers.

Heh, Interesting thread ya got going here.

"Uncle Rattler's" point of view:

-Rattler own's guns so that's a no brainer.

-Bush, at least he knows the definition of sex! Would you trust a man to run a country if you couldn't trust him to chaperone your daughter? > -I-He also opposes the death penalty. It's too easy! I say make prisons more like prisons should be. Overcrowding and early release? Take those words and definitions out of the dictionary! I say adopt the Japaneese method of prison control. Be good today, I feed you today! Steal something worth 1 cent American and it's a prison sentence. Makes one think about his actions BEFORE he does it!

One last rant and I'll quit.

****DUI****

I say, if the individual kills someone, try him for Murder One if he's above the legal limit. If he's convicted just for simple DUI, Simply make him walk for the rest of his natural life. Establish a national registry so that he can't get a license again in any State. There won't be any repeat offenders that way unless he does it without a license. If he's found driving again, 10 years mandatory sentence! End of discussion.

Now does this make me a left or right winger? biggrin.gif

Actually, this should read:

Democrats - Foreign policy changes dependant upon monetary contributions.

Righty. Definitely a righty.

An interesting analysis (after this thread is done) will be to correlate everybody's views on gun control and foreign policy with their behaviors on this board and in the game. How many real-life gun-control advocates will be hollering for more powerful weapons and faster ships? smile.gif

I love it when people vote for banning firearms. Hehe, it's happened to a great extent in the UK, Australia and Canada.

Guess what: didn't lower crime rates! In fact, violent crimes involving unarmed citizens and armed criminals is on the steep increase in countries with no-gun laws.

I guess the criminals didn't think the law applied to them and went and bought the guns anyway.

Oh well, when the citizens can't own weapons of defense, the criminals have nothing to fear.

So, all you out there against private ownership of weapons, be sure and vote to increase your police force by 1000%. It'll take that much to protect you from those who would just as soon wipe their bum with the anti-gun laws.

As for me, govt. is only good for a few things: errr.. I really can't think of any right now smile.gif

However, should we all vote away everything, I want to request a position as a historian for Big Brother. I'd rewrite history and the release of BattleCruiser 1.0 would become the most perfect release ever; earning it's develepor 1.2 Billion in profits; spawning new life changing software that ushers humanity into a utopia centered around playing currently released versions of BC; all the while unknowingly piloting unmaned space-vehicles linked to the trillions of copies of BC being played on Interenet2 and Internet to Mars. (Was that one long run on sentence or what!)

Interesting... it seems as though most members of this board are Republicans. Reassuring, indeed.

Hell, if we let the democrats take office, they'll use the constitution so long as it benefits them, and change it when it doesn't!

Democrats, Republicans, Democrats,Republicans....

Sigh. It's a shame that only the richest and most meida-friendly canidates from the Big Three (Demos, Repubs, and Indipens) get reconized. What about the perfeclty good folks running who you never even hear of?

Well, you're about to hear of one of them.

I haven't the faintest idea what "wing" I'm sitting on...but I am sure of what I want in a president.A fellow who thinks the way I do. That's the democratic process, right? Voting for the guy who represents your opinion? And instead of telling you folks my opinions, I'll tell you who I'd vote for. David Ernest McReynolds.

What, never heard of him? I'll give you a hint on the sort of politician he is. You can find his name on the Socialist ballot.

Now I'm not pushing socialism here, I'm just encourging anyone who doesn't like any of the Big runners to check out this site: http://www.vote-smart.org/ , which gives all the runners equal space to represent themselves. You'd be downright shocked to look at the HUGE list they have of people hankerin' to lead America.

Opp, sorry, off topic. Well, I'm a voting Socialist, that's my input in this little poll.

Crimes involving armed criminals may be on the increase in the UK but the levels were very low in the first place.

Surely if fireamrs were leagally availible to every small time criminal those figures would go through the roof.

Here's my take on gun control: Do criminals who would murder someone actually care about law enough to have it stop them from arming themselves? I mean, it is illegal to discharge a firearm at someone. Do you truly think that a monster of that kind of integrity would care?

Now, if everyone owned a gun would these same criminals be so fast to invade one's home risking their lives for some precious jewels?

Personally, I'd never vote outside of the two primary political parties. Never would I even vote Reform Party in this day and age. The reason is simple: Unless these parties have a good representation in the senate and congress, nothing would actually get done due to partisan politics and political in-fighting. If by some miracle an independant or a Reformer were to get sworn in, I think my point would be clearer than day. Hell, they can hardly get anything done as it is.

Democracy is not what it used to be, so I play by the new rules. The intentions of a democratic society is to vote for whom would represent you the best. However, in today's world, one should consider voting for the canidate that not only would represent their views the best, but would actually be able to beat the system and help bring one's views to day light. In other words, I'd love to be able to have my options much more elaborate than what they currently are, but in today's political environment, voting for anything other than the primary parties would be making your vote a martyr for the cause.

Side note--------

Even with all that said, I would never, ever vote for a representative of socialism.
