Grizzle
Cool video, but feels a bit claustrophobic. Definitely has the cartoony edge to it. The inside-the-ship part reminded me of a 3D version of Robotron. Looks like the planetside stuff only occurs in a small area too. I'm still waiting for the Ultimate Space Sim, but for now, what has come out of Derek's brain is the closest I've gotten.

Cruis. In
ok. I like this game premise. Meaning the open ended free form, explore 1000 worlds, shoot 1000 ships, kill 1000 people, conquer 1000 civilizations, tie your shoe lace do anything graphically great, seamless space sim. my only problem is (and I know I've said this before, and yes I know im a big nerd) that it is another scifi universe....I want the universe that started it all. Star trek!! Star trek!! I want to fly "starships". And go to Cardassia and go to Romulus and cut off Romulan Ears... not learn about new alien races named GriGari or whatever. Sadly ST Online is just an MMO. I want a single player one. star trek started scifi as we know it. no one can deny, this. other things just improved on it, and unfortunately may have become more entertaining than it. end /rant

Mordax Blyrr
"The game is to be released somewhere in 2005." If it's a direct translation from the Russian version of the site we aren't even sure the english version will be! We'll just have to see.
Cruis. In
it looks like the russian gamers say the game has lots of problems and runs "very not quickly" and that the company says if there is an english version, it wont be for a while... oh well, there is always star trek online. Asso
If anyone wants to get an idea of the game, I can help you to get the first episode (The Imperial Chronicles, which is closer to Parkan 2 than Iron Strategy): http://www.parkanclub.com/files/parkan-ic-2001ru_cdfiles.7z here's the 7zipped CD files; http://www.parkanclub.com/muz/ogg/ic/ic-02-oberon.ogg http://www.parkanclub.com/muz/ogg/ic/ic-03-dagger.ogg http://www.parkanclub.com/muz/ogg/ic/ic-04-astron.ogg http://www.parkanclub.com/muz/ogg/ic/ic-05-hammer.ogg http://www.parkanclub.com/muz/ogg/ic/ic-06-matubo.ogg http://www.parkanclub.com/muz/ogg/ic/ic-07-xenor.ogg http://www.parkanclub.com/muz/ogg/ic/ic-installer_sound.ogg these are the music files in ogg format; http://www.parkanclub.com/support/parkan.zip this is the registry update if you use WinXPSP2 (at least it's what I understood, since it's all written in russian); http://www.parkanclub.com/files/icpatch.rar this one is the latest patch (43 MB); http://www.parkanclub.com/files/scrshot.htm in this page I found most of the files, and there are many other, check them if you want. The link to the 7zipped archive was taken from the Parkan Club forum (all in russian). Burn the iso as mixed mode CD to get the full russian game disc (don't remember if Nero handles ogg files, convert them in mp3 if not). Finally, since the english beta version of Parkan 1 is almost a legend, adger44 of the Parkan 2 Official Forum has released a patch which adds something to the game (haven't checked yet) and translates it in english. Remember that he doesn't know russian (he used things like Babelfish), so don't get mad with him. Here are the links for its 3 released patches: http://s2.ultrashare.net/hosting/fs/100e0bb7c373fccf/ http://s2.ultrashare.net/hosting/fs/cd56386d6b507d4c/ http://s2.ultrashare.net/hosting/fs/411be288c77bf5dc/ and the page where i found 'em: http://www.nikita.ru/parkan/p2/forum/read....f=2&i=190&t=190 So, many thanks to me for searching all these infos! Guest Hellbinder[CE]
The Review and the latest screenshots are awesome. I am suprised that the reviewer didnt see or chose not to comment on how this is a graphically souped up version of Battlecruiser. Without as many ships and races. But with ship interiors and what looks like a superior FPS mode. This one looks like a Single player Planetside meets Universal Combat. I am More than Quite impressed. Lets see how the final product comes out.

paranide
quote:But with ship interiors and what looks like a superior FPS modeI'm not that sure about the FP aspect in ships. In the parkan 2 forum there has been for example stated that a)the ships interiors aren't destroyable and that b)the ships can't be capture but have a self destruction sequence as soon as you have the last enemy neutralized. http://www.nikita.ru/parkan/p2/forum/read....f=2&i=309&t=309 If this is true it would be pretty lame IMO. But still a nice feature.Well, let's wait until the game will is released in country's other than russia.Though I guess it will yet take quite some time, maybe 2006. Supreme Cmdr
I don't see why they would make the interior destroyable, since they are probably just BSP levels. Being able to destroy levels is a tremendous CPU hog and doesn't add anything to a game IMO. I don't see why they would self-destruct a ship when you can just have it captured. I guess they don't want the player being able to switch to a captured ship. Who knows. When you embark on huge games like this, you have to cover all your bases. And sometimes a lot of things just don't pan out. Anyway, the game is supposed to be a total shambles.

Being able to destroy levels is a tremendous CPU hog and doesn't add anything to a game IMO.Of course it doesn't add too much gameplay-wise.But it would be IMHO very nice to first shoot holes into a hostile veseel and then board it,seeing all these holes and pieces of metal and fire and destroyed computers and flickering lights. It would be a whole lot more satisfying Anyway,at least it would have been nice to be able to destroy main systems, like engines or the bridge[in FP mode].But as this seems not to be given, why would I want to board hostile ships?May be just one time, because you'd want to see how the ship's interiors look like but then,as there seems to be not much reward in boarding, you are likely to just skip it.And that's,IMO,wasted potencial. Cruis. In
its like rome total war, after a while doing the battles in real time gets boring, and you just want to save time and auto them out of the way. especially since 500 of your Urban cohorts beat down 4000 opposing troops. No need to worry about planning strategy real time yourself.

I cant agree with you at all on this. The Models, Weapons and Physics of the FPS Mode look much more like a normal FPS from what i can see.
