I've searched the manual, appendices, and the forum for the answer to this question but I haven't been able to find it.
If I put items into a cargo pod and beam it down to a planet's surface, is it possible to get the items out of it so I can use them.
e.g. I want to set up a small base on a planet guarded by a couple SAM's. I put the SAM's, some ammo, and nutripaks into a cargo pod and beam it, my AE, and 10 marines down to the planet. When I get down there I have a nice pod with the equipment, but no way (that I know of) to actually get them out so I can use them.
Is this possible?

Yeah. I understand that the majority of items in the game couldn't be extracted since they don't have an actual model that goes with it, but those things that did could be removed from the cargo pod and have their actual game objects placed on the ground within a close proximity of the pod. You could then use a shuttle to tow the sams into position.
Maybe someday.....
