Problem with GBS Mod 1

HI, I downloaded, unzipped and put the files in the scripts directory for the fleet mod however I cannot get it to work. I have tried starting new games under both the campaign and free flight, I have tried existing saved games as well as starting new games. Any ideas on why this one feature will not work?

Thanks

Ummm, I'm wondering why your are posting this in the "Fleet Operations" forum? Sounds like a tech question to me...

I think he posted it here because it was the fleet operations mod (fleet command) he was having problems with and got confused. Malakie - Your question is a tech question, and needs to go into the Technical Support forum.

Xavier out.

Insurgent and proud of it.

What mod, exactly, are you talking about? If you are talking about the alliance mods, ie; Galcommie, Insurgent, Raider, Trader, etc; then trot yourself over to Galcom Mission Control and download the mission pack. Unzip THAT into your scripts folder and you may chose to play any of the Casts that are offered. If you are talking about PlayMods, Script Folder is NOT where it belongs! Try going to Downloads area, downloading Playmod, and all the other CHEATS that are there. Be sure and read what's there, and especially the ones that say READ THIS FILE. Just click on them, they'll open up the link to the document.

Sorry to be short with you Commander but, Those instructions were put there for a reason. Just remember, "Unlce Rattler" is always here to help, he's just grumpy some days. I'll never turn my back on you, I just might require you to burn a little energy of your own to prove you are sincere in your endeavors. That being said, If you don't get it in hand after following my advice above, shout! I'll try to hand walk you through it if necessary. OK? biggrin.gif

HI, My first message in the thread explained which mod I was trying to use.. I should have repeated but was too lazy to type it again! ;-)

I only want to use Fleet Command mod. I do not want to use any other cheats.. want to play the full game however the fleet command mod seems to add a whole new dimension to the game without really cheating.

So I downloaded and installed (per ALL of the instructions and searchs for instructions on this site I could find) the mod into the scripts dir. I start a new character and so... But the fleet option NEVER shows no matter what I do.

Now question... I have two game options.. Free flight and the compaign. I have tried BOTH to no avail. Is there another that is supposed to be there for this mod to work?

Where, EXACTLY, does it say to put any playmods into your script folder? I've managed to miss that portion. If you are going to use Playmods, there's a step by step proceedure on how to apply the mods. You'll have to follow the instructions at this link. http://www.bc3000ad.com/gbs/playmod.txt

Have a look there.

HI Here is the exact text from the readme file:

GBS Modification #1

[description]

This MOD gives you Fleet Command & Control access in any new Free Flight game.

By default, you only get Fleet C&C if you are promoted to Supreme Commander (in

Free Flight) or if Karl Reines comes aboard your ship (in some ACM missions).

[install]

Unzip this file into the SCRIPTS folder located in the BC3K install folder.

Start a new Free Flight game as normal.

To uninstall this MOD, simply delete the BC3K0000.MIS file from the SCRIPTS

folder and the system will resume using the default internal version. You

*must* start a new game after doing so because the saved games will not be

compatible.

[notes]

For those of you with the GBS utility, the modified BC3K0000.SCR source file is

included.

But it no worky....

Sorry, my mistake. I currently do not have GBS installed. I'll come home tonight and download it and give it a shot for you. If it works for me, it should work for anyone. I'll get back to this thread after I put it in tonight. Again, sorry for the confusion but, when you say "Mod", guys like myself think playmod. When speaking of GBS, Title it GBS. wink.gif

Hmm, I had no intent nor did I realize it was a slight in any way. I was using a word that my kids use.. I apologize if there was any wrong interpretation...

I found the problem. Soething the DOCS DO NOT state. The Fleet mod does NOT work by itself.. You have to have one of the other mods installed to play at a trader, insurgent etc.

Once I installed that, the fleet mod works.. It does NOT work in the default Campaign nor in the default free flight mode (which I wish it did).

That information is false. All the mods work independently. In fact, that GBS mod 1 (the Fleet C&C one you are trying to use) is a script all by itself and does not require any other script to work.

The Insurgent, Raider and Trader mods, available via Mission Control, have Fleet C&C enabled and thats why it works for those modes.

To make sure you don't have a corrupt file download, try downloading the mod again. And this time, unzip it directly into the SCRIPTS folder and start a new game.

SC, That is what I was hoping, but honestly, with ONLY that script installed, it does not work. I have even re-installed the entire game and started over. I assume there is no difference in the logic that runs in the kernel depending on whether I am in software mode or 3dfx mode correct?

I have done everything recommended, that I have etc. The Fleet C&C does not appear in either Free flight or the campaign unless I install the ability to run as a trader, insurgent or the third choice.

Any ideas?

  1. You are wrong. I just downloaded the script (just make sure that I have the same version you supposedly downloaded) Unzipped it to the SCRIPTS folder. Started a new FF scenario and I got Fleet C&C, complete with the msg telling me that Mark was on board.

  2. The script only works in FF mode.

  1. Open up an MS-DOS window.

  2. go to the SCRIPTS folder and type in dir > scripts.txt

  3. open the scripts.txt file in Notepad and copy it to the clipboard.

  4. reply to this post and past the contents of the scripts.txt file. Enclose it within the UBB code and /code segments so that it is formated properly.

For UBB code usage, check below.

Just as I suspected.

  1. The bc3k0000 set of files are wrong. I don't know where you got them or when, but they are incorrect. Download the gbsmod1 again. Didn't I tell you to do this already?

  2. You have also put in GBS files in the scripts folder and all of them will overwrite any mods and the internal default scripts. You should never attempt to use the GBS scripts unless you know what you are doing. It is clear that you don't.

  3. Delete everything from that folder and then download and re-install the gbs mod and the mission control ones again. There are similar and unmodified script files in the GBS zip file that are not the same as those mod files.

I tried to install gbsmod1 today and it didn't work. I downloaded the file today and it contains exactly the same BC3K0000.* files as in Malakies installation folder. I even opened the zip file straight from downloads page and the files are the same. Here is a part from BC3K0000.scr file.

"## SYSTEM SCRIPT - FREE FLIGHT SCENARIO

#

# This script is used in FREE FLIGHT mode. It contains the default world with

# auto-generation active. In this mode, the player is a scientist.

#".

I just thought that it requires some more investigation, correct me if I'm wrong.

You're wrong. I just downloaded it and these are the files it contains.

quote:

12/31/99 2:09 869 BC3K0000.DAT

12/31/99 2:09 81,626 BC3K0000.MIS

12/31/99 2:09 1,244 BC3K0000.SCR

12/28/99 2:09 763 gbsmod1.txt

and the .scr file says:

quote:

# SYSTEM SCRIPT - FREE FLIGHT SCENARIO

# This script is used in FREE FLIGHT mode. It contains the default world with

# auto-generation active. In this mode, the player is military.
