Problem with GBS Mod 1

Hi, Somthing is NOT right. I DID download those files more than once and as someone else stated, the files you mentioned WERE NOT the same.

If you look at my listing those particular files are in the directory. They came DIRECTLY from the archive I downloaded 3 times FROM THIS WEB SITE. Please note: I am the head developer of a commercial software developer. We write the developer tools programmers use to create products so I know what I am talking about.

I KNOW what I am doing and I am starting to resent being treated like a child. Now, I am telling you, the files ARE as myself and others have posted. The README DOES NOT contain the text you listed. If need be I can send the archive to you directly from my office for you to look at.

I will download the patch AGAIN from the download area here on the site. I will try it and then report back what I find.

In the meantime, I understand you may get frustrated or irritated with some users who seem to not understand what to do. But you may want to find out WHOM who are conversing with before treating us in such a manner.

You have created a great concept and game engine. Many of us have been patient and worked with you for many years to get to this point. Don't alienate us by telling us we are not correct period when we are trying to solve an issue. You will only succeed in driving us away as well.

I do not hold grudges and hope you will take my comments in the context they are intended. Let's solve this problem and move on to better things.

I just downloaded the file again. Guess what, The file I previously downloaded are DIFFERENT than the one I JUST downloaded.

I have a screen shots of the open zip archives SHOWING different file sizes and date strings. There does not appear to be a way to post screen shots in this forum. I can send it to you via email if you like.

Here are the differences:

First downloads:

Bc3K0000.dat 12/21/1999 1:20am size 828

Bc3K0000.mis 12/31/1999 1:20am size 81,589

Bc3K0000.scr 12/31/1999 2:09am size 1,252

gbsmod1.txt 12/28/1999 2:09am size 763

Tonights download:

Bc3K0000.dat 12/21/1999 2:09am size 869

Bc3K0000.mis 12/31/1999 2:09am size 81,626

Bc3K0000.scr 12/31/1999 2:09am size 1,244

gbsmod1.txt 12/28/1999 2:09am size 763

As you can see, they are very different. Perhaps the link was pointed to the wrong file but as you can see we have been telling you the truth.

As a rule we backup nightly so I have ALL zips we downloaded. I can send you anything you need to compare these archives. I also have all the download logs showing WHEN these files were downloaded and from where. These logs show all files were download from your web site download area.

I have not yet tried this new download but will do so shortly. I will post when I have done so to let you know if it now works.

You must have downloaded them before v2.09 versions were uploaded. Each time a new patch is done, all Mods have to be rebuilt using the new engine or they won't work properly. As you can see, on 2-11-00, I told you that the files were wrong. You should have just downloaded them then. My files have not changed and today, to be certain the links were OK, I downloaded it again, unzipped, checked it, and posted the files for Papi.

Hi, On that you are very correct. It was the 10th that we downloaded 2.09 and at the same time downloaded the gbsmods!

I have not yet had time to check the updated version but will do so as soon as I get a chance.

BTW- I didn't mean to jump on you so hard... As you know software development is a pain in the ass sometimes and today was a doozy for us. We released a new product and found the protection code was broken in 12 hours - and all because we miss keyed a number.

We were lucky though.. The product was only released to our beta testers so they could verify the install packages.. One of them who works is an security/encryption engineer and tests our registration/security code found the error. It took us all day to find one typo.

So if I was a bit hard on you, I hope you do not take it personally and if you did I apologize.

Thanks again..

Malakie -

I just checked my file dates for GBS Mod 1 and they are the same as those that you had originally. I downloaded these a day or two after SC posted them when 2.09 was released - I even remember posting somewhere that the read this link linked to the wrong file!!!!!

I have downloaded them again today and got the new versions - something odd is going on here!!!

Something strange really! I think I got it figured. I deleted all temporary internet files, but it didn't help, the same file persisted. Then I selected no proxy in my iexplorers settings and voilá, the file is the same as SC described. I think that proxy I use saves these little files and I got the same out of date file over and over again. I know it sounds grazy but it's best explanation yet. I'm sorry too to bother you SC with this problem, but I think it's good to get these things figured out, than keep in silence.

ps.

Once again I must say that no game developer is as dedicated to his work as you are!

pps.

I solemnly swear that I give the man peace to work with BCM from now on, because I just can't wait to get my hands to it!!!!!

Hi,

Now I know I am probably heading for an airlock right now, but......

I still don't get Fleet C&C with GBS Mod 1 in Free Flight. After ten minutes I get the message about the alliance update but that's it. I have downloaded GBSMod1 and 208-209 patch again, re-installed from scratch but still no joy. I am patching to 2.09 from a 2.08UK CD.

Hi again,

OK - downloaded gbsmod1.zip again - still won't work. So, not knowing anything about the GBS I thought I would have a fiddle around. Edited the bc3k0000.scr file to read as follows:

code:

#

# SYSTEM SCRIPT - FREE FLIGHT SCENARIO

#

# This script is used in FREE FLIGHT mode. It contains the default world with

# auto-generation active. In this mode, the player is military.

#

#

#include glob_rg.scr

#include glob_dyn.scr

#

[ai]

#include glob_ai.scr

#include glob_ag.scr

#

galaxian diplomat,,ghq,probe1.3dc,satcom

[ai]

.ghq,100,100,100,100,100,100,1

start orbit blk05z^flx-11,1000,10,90,0

stop

events

!startup

autogen OFF

signal activate_ag,10

cloak on this

set_career military

mod_alliance empirian,vesperon,0

mod_alliance vesperon,empirian,0

mod_alliance terran,vesperon,50

mod_alliance vesperon,terran,50

!activate_ag

autogen ON

broadcast "ALLIANCE UPDATE: VESPERONS-EMPIRIANS = HOSTILE"

broadcast "ALLIANCE UPDATE: TERRANS-VESPERONS = PASSIVE"

endevents

#

.galcomhq

!destroyed this

broadcast "GALCOM HQ HAS BEEN DESTROYED. 2 HOURS TO RESTORATION"

clear_guest 1,CMO,"Karl Reines is no longer on board"

say CMO,"We now have Fleet Command & Control authority"

then ran prepare and prepare phrases, copied the mis and dat files to the scripts dir and hey presto! Fleet C&C as soon as I launch from Galcom HQ!!!!

The only line I changed was removing the '#' at the start of the clear_guest 1 line. Anybody who understands the GBS help me out here? Have I messed up or what?

Cmdr Andy DiFontaine

Might have a good read of the GBS docs - this looks like fun!!

You should not have to modify the script in order to get Fleet C&C. That line you uncommented, will disable Fleet C&C if GALCOM HQ is ever destroyed. The line that gives you Fleet C&C is the one that actually creates Karl on your ship.

Thanks SC,

What I am trying to say is if I download gbsmod1 and unzip to the scripts dir and then start a new game in free flight I don't get fleet C&C.

But, if I delete all the bc3k0000.* files from the gbs dir then put bc3k0000.scr (edited or not) in the gbs dir and prepare/prepare phrases it, then copy bc3k0000.mis & bc3k0000.dat in to the scripts dir when I launch from ghq I get the messages and fleet C&C immediately.

Can someone email me a working gbsmod1 for v2.09?

Surely I can send you the file, but please look at my post above, that's the way I got the right file anyway.
