twobombs Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Okay; I was out of this scene since 1999 ( Battle Cruiser Mil ) But whatever happened with the rings around large gaseous planets such as Jupiter & Saturn? It would also have made nice extrasolar planets with the Red & Blue backgrounds that are beautifully laid out.
Supreme Cmdr Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Someone mentioned that they weren't being rendered and I have yet to investigate since they never came back to confirm it. I think it was Grizzle who first mentioned it.
Grizzle Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Yes I mentioned it and have tried several things to no avail. Windows Changes: All VC settings to performance All VC settings to quality AA and AF disabled Various Mipmap and quality settings UCAWA settings: Screen resolution - 1024x768 and 1280x1024 Antialiasing - 0 thru 6 Filtering Aniso - any level Filtering Trilinear Filtering Bilinear DXT textures on/off External planetary clouds on/off In short I can't get them to show no matter what. Im using the 5.8 Cat's on my X800 (my profile isn't up to date) And just recently loaded tweaked drivers (NGO) but have yet to verify if the rings show or not. I'll take a trip over to Saturn tonight and see if the third party drivers have any effect.
Grizzle Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Aw crap, I thought this thread was in Tech Support. can someone move it?
Supreme Cmdr Report post Posted September 21, 2005 I can't get them to show either. Looking into it. Grizzle, did you try turning off the planetary cloud cover in Config?
Grizzle Report post Posted September 22, 2005 Planetary clouds and external cloud maps, still no rings. The tweaked drivers made no difference either.
Supreme Cmdr Report post Posted September 22, 2005 Yeah, I found the problem. Its not a rendering issue. I had disabled the scripts parameter for the rings back when the dynamic cloud cover was being implemented and tested. I forgot to re-enable the ring drawing code in the WORLD.SCR script. Doh! Look in GBS definition for jupiter and you will see that the last 3-4 params are missing; when compared to the UC variant. Not important enough for a patch push, so this will wait until a new patch with a more critical issue is required.
