Supreme Cmdr
Just wanted to let you guys know that I will be setting up special MP servers for recognized fleets only. These servers will not be open to the public and will be administered and controlled by myself and the respective Fleet Leaders. These servers will be running 24-7, 7 days a week and I will bump up the num of players to 64, if Nick puts in the massively-multiplayer GCO code by then, if not, they will remain at 16 players (like the public servers). I will set up 1 server each on the East and West coast of the US, 1 in Australia, 1 in the UK and 1 in Japan.Be advised. Its coming...

Guest Remo Williams
Cool just had my 300k DSL hook-up put in a few weeks ago just for BCM. The 64-player servers sound really cool. Its going to be awsome to behold up to 64 fleet members engaged in battle!! You can count on me to be on the west coast server every free moment I've got. Supreme Cmdr
Its more money I have to spend, but, if it keeps me flak-free, its money well spent. Anyway, you guys, in between harassing me in subtle tones over this past year, have done a great job with the community, the RPG and fleet stuff etc, and I'd just hate to see it all result in chaos when you can't maintain order on public servers. These servers will be password protected. If you get in, it means a Fleet Leader gave you the password. And since everyone will know everyone on a server, if anyone gives his mother-in-law's boyfriend the server password, the server op will know about it and just ban them...for life. For that 64 player stuff, it means disabling NPC auto-generation btw. So, apart from stations which will still maintain their asset complement, and surface bases the same, the world will mostly comprise of human players.....and I'll enable Fleet C&C on the server but only to a Fleet Leader because then I know it won't get abused. Its one thing to have a bunch of elitists on a secure server, all knowing the limitations, and another to have a bunch of ladies on public servers attempting to run 64 players on a 33.6K modem and bitching to me about it. This BCM release, I intend to keep my blood pressure within normal limits and I ain't taking any chances! I've got a newborn to raise and I don't particularly want to die of a heart attack or high blood pressure. I'd rather do down in flames (when Rattler and his crew decide they've had enough of GALCOM's crappola) in my ship. Nick is putting in HEAT and GamespyArcade support (www.gamespyarcade.com) in the SDK for me to implement in BCM (we just got the final gspy SDK last week from them). So, if I don't do the exclusive HEAT deal, people will be able to host their own public or secure servers - all of which will report to the 3000AD master server. If I end up doing an exclusive HEAT deal, then, thats the only place the public will be able to player. As of today, thats how its looking. I'm just having Nick put in gspy support just as a backup for when HEAT's license runs out, if they are down for some reason, etc.
Guest aramike01
SC, I request permission to take this to those detractors who think that you care nothing of the fans, and tell them to stick it somewhere unpleasant! Supreme Cmdr
Joe, its not a loss at all, because the server op can just activate/deactivate NPC auto-generation at will, depending on who many people are playing. So, if there are only 32 and AG is on, no problem. In fact, you can still have 64 and activate AG. It will all depend on the server load. So, this restriction is not encoded, its just an option. Interesting... but I gotta ask... will the C&C option be password-enabled? I mean, it would be nice to allow people who prove their maturity/teamwork to have access to the C&C..or at least to command the AI assets of one starstation. The Fleet Leader or the server god could give those people the priviledge of C&C... besides, if they step out of line their privildges could be taken away as easily as they were given quote:So, if I don't do the exclusive HEAT deal, people will be able to host their own public or secure servers - all of which will report to the 3000AD master server. When I go to Heat the lag is so bad sometimes its just a pain to play (and im on a cable modem! yikes!). Once again, I refer to Netrek.. they are all public servers that report to a master server.. it is very popular as it allows for hundreds of servers to pop up around the world..and those servers are almost always full. Plus it allows for game variant servers to be put up... players could set up a server to be a free-for all with access to all options, another one could be set so that players start with just shuttles and work their way up... etc, etc. Possibilities are endless
