Janitorial Fleet: Yes or No?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so it's a joke more than anything else now, but a while back someone(I forgot who)posted the idea of an official GalCom Janitorial Fleet.

The purpose of this GCJF would be to essentialy clean up the galaxy! To gather space debris and fight paint scratches! To clean bridgeviewers so any commander has a clear view! To boldy go where no janitorial engineeer has gone before!

So what do you think? Will YOU enlist? Join now! Fight for cleanliness!

If you put it like that than it seems a corporation is more appropriate. I can understand one likes to use the word "fleet", as it lifts the cool-ness factor quite a bit. But then only on the outside. Fleets are military. What this idea is suggesting is just a cleaning service. No guns involved. And an unnneccesary one at best, as no real junk is left around roaming the BCM/BC3K spacelanes. If it doesn't have a TTD then it's just GFX. (And do we really want to have dormant junk eat up precious CPU-power?) Very likely that's the reason most people don't catch up on this idea. Doesn't really have merrit. Ofcourse one can start a towing service. Or a commercial explosive ordenance disposal unit clearing up mines based on contracts. Or a 'debris-field mining' company. But debris fields are not really trafic hazards, are they?

I don't think anyone ever joined the military just so he could do latrine duty. (never was enlisted myself, just watched TOD alot)

Ok 1st off I created the Janitorial Fleet.

2nd it was just a spoof (i got plenty of laughs from it)

3rd your right I stuck the word fleet for added coolness

4th I dont believe Urinal Patties fit in the torpedo launch tubes

If this "fleet" does come alive I will be the Admiral (being creator and all) and other then that I give it a "Yea"

I checked the specs on it. There is a place on Lanix-V that you can get industrially supersized urinal patties made. Now, according to current databases, one of these giant urinal cakes will fit in a turbolift with about 1 inch left over, which is perfect in case the door gets stuck or something. ALSO, the specs confirm that a modified urinal patty can be launched from one of the forward torpedo bays on a Galactan class Battlecruiser at a certain rate and speed, which could cause the patty to disrupt the solar array of another ship undetectedly. Now, since the patty has no energy or heat signature, you can launch it while cloaked and cause the above mentioned solar array disruption, rendering the ship useless on auxilliary power if the nuclear power plant became damaged. I am currently working on a method of attack involving the patty and the destruction of the nuclear plant with a can of type 4 janitorial cleaning spray which can be placed by a covert operative. Basically, this plan would change the face of the GCJF forever, allowing it's members to uprise and take over the entire GALCOM Federation in a matter of about 3 days. After all, every ship has a janitor...and what a perfect operative to place that type 4 cleaning spray...

Of course, this is just an idea.

Howdy there. I'm Nova, the Newbie Welcome Wagon. The following is a(n) (under)paid announcement, made possible by me.

(RP)

Hmm... Miss Blutengel, you seem to be quite the accomplished Mercenary. Galcom citizenship terminated, merceary activities, intentions unknown, (continues mumbling while reading threat assesment*), et cetera, et cetera.

(/RP)

*takes a deep breath*

1) Mercenaries can't have Carriers (as in your Galactan)

2) You're not allowed to have any non-approved images in your sig. Only approved logos.

3) Galcom stands for Galactic Command (no "federation" in the name; otherwise, it doesn't seem to sound right: Galactic Command Federation.... Ick. ).

4) (From profile page) I'm pretty sure there isn't any TERRAN ALLIANCE. I'll have to double check the old RP files (and I do mean the really old ones, 'cuz I know it isn't in any of the recent ones).

5) "GALCOM calls me an 'Insurgent'. I call myself a human who expresses free will." - Girl, you ain't an Insurgent! You're an Indie. The Insurgency is a terran-based government, outside of Sol, that opposes Galcom. Don't confuse the two.

6) (again, from personal page) "Age 19 - JOINS GALCOM FLEET ACADEMY" You're going to need a timestamp on when the character was born (if you want to be in RP), because the fleets now, usually have their own Academies. As long as you were that age during or before year 3000, you're okay.

---

Been lurking long? You seem to like to Role-Play your part in BC (I really like your character history profile page). See the RPG threads. I think you'd be great there (if you take the time to learn some of the history, procedures & whatnot, and fix the stuff above).

Anyway, welcome aboard our Forum. *exhales and takes another deep breath*

Nova, over and out.

Heh, nice thought, but not at all true.

GALCOM Academy is an old tutorial like project from Mano Faber, and Andrew Vogel to be found here:

http://www.geocities.com/solarstriker/

This project has nothing to do with RPG IIRC, and any player type should find something in there.

Best regards.

Guest Commander Hamblin

Thank God!

Pass through Prime Academy to join a specialised fleet? Bugger that!

[rp]

We want newbies in Orion that won't sit around on their arses 24 hours a day.

[/rp]

Oh, and of course Galcom encourages free will...but only if you join Orion. Where you get the freedom to choose how many push ups you do.

Nova, I think she probably meant that GALCOM, as both a military and political alliance (The United Free Nations is just on Earth, GALCOM is Sol, Alpha Centauri, and Omicron Eridani, correct?), is organised in a federal manner, making it a federation (small f though, since it's not a federation in name). ie, the head of state and head of government, is there to hold together the separate, individual governments, with the overarching government only having control over things like defence and law that applies GALCOM wide...things like that.

As to a janitorial fleet, we already have one! It's called...*is bound and gagged*

Even though Galcom is organised like a federation, we don't say federation, because it doesn't sound right.

As of my knowledge, the United States of America are a "Presidential republic", but because of it, do you say the "United States of America republic"? Or the "Republic of the United States of America"? No.

Why would anyone trained by Prime Fleet ever want to join another Fleet?

Now, really. The (spezialized) fleets do their own recruitment, and they do their own training. Although Prime Fleet has some specialized groups, it's main directive is to fight in sheer mass combat. Not some dangerous covert operations behind enemy lines, but face-to-face combat, sometimes even more dangerous, with lots and lots of ships involved...

Best regards.
