what do fleets do?

Recommended Posts

Of course if you don't like having to keep your hair cut short, getting up at 5am, having some drill instructor yelling at you for not ironing your underwear and spending 6 hours a day peeling potatoes...

You can always remain an Independent. This could be exactly what you're looking for.

Insurgents are insurgents. That is, they're rebels. I'd suggest you go read the BC3K 2.0x manual - it has a comprehensive story as to how the Insurgency begun.

Basically, it boils down to a very inaccurate summation:

The Insurgency is fighting for changes in the Terran government (extreme right-wing).

GalCom doesn't know what it's fighting for. (neither left- nor right-wing).

EarthCom is upholding GalCom's stability as best as it can (extreme left-wing).

The Indies are everything else!

[edit] Erm, I'm not sure I got the wings in the right direction... right-wing in my example is "liberal" while left-wing is "conservative".

Your duties in a fleet will vary depending on the particular fleet. For roleplaying everyone would like you to have a character name and a vessel name. If you become active on the forums people will come to recognize you. You will answer a roll call every so often and some may want a report. Some fleets have their own forums and ask that you participate there as well.

As far as the game goes when we get multiplayer you will be asigned a patrol zone and be tasked with protecting it. Both from other players and the npc bad guys.

From there read the fleet faq and see which one suits you best. Each one has its own priotities and assignments.

And yes the point is to have fun. I can't wait for multiplay. I think the game will really shine there.

what fleet do you recommend? as one where you could go on independent patrols?

Independent patrols? don't think that it will happen often. We are fleets because we are more powerful together than each alone.

And about the good fleet, it depends. If you wanna be a bad guy, go insurgent

Prime is a non-specialised fleet. They do everything and fight with sheer numbers as much as they can.

ISS is a defense-intel fleet. They are also in the minesweeping and mine dispersal stuff. They assist the other fleets as needed, keep the unhabited sectors of Sol clean and patrol the Omicron Eridani sectors. They also have a wing patrolling the Tau Ceti system under Orion command.

Wraith in the spec. ops. fleet, striking where it hurts when the enemy least expect it. They do intel sometimes. They don't really do territorial defense.

Orion is the heavy-strike fleet, the big gun fleet. Orion is the most active fleet and almost tied with prime for it's size (member count). We do the tough jobs : Fleet assaults, starstation assaults, etc. We are also in the defense department, defending Alpha Centauri and Tau Ceti. We use andvanced combat techniques and strategies to have the advantage, developed with inspiration from curent uk/us naval deployment and appended to reflect a space area.

Earthcom is the Earth defense force, concentrating their efforts at fighting those who threatens Earth.

Chose your side carefully upon your likings. You will not be able to change later.

Heh, If you really wanna be a bad guy... join the Gammulans, the baddest guys of the galaxy!

The Gammulans are a Race with most of their recouses set for weapons. The Gammulans kill without mercy and have even taken over other Races (Falkeries).

Depending on which fleet you eventually join, you will probably be assigned one and a wing/Battle Group. You'll probably get one of the smaller ships to start. Carriers are probably going to be few and far between and you'll have to do a lot of hard work before you'll deserve being assigned somthing like a Battlecruiser or Firestorm. If you join Orion, you wont even get a command to start off with. Sure, you'll get simulated command training, but you wont get to actually take one out yourself until you graduate from the Academy. Even then, it will probably be in a small cruiser until you prove in the field that you are capable of taking care of expensive GalCom hardware.

Well, it depends on the fleet. Orion is a heavy hitter. Big, heavy combat is their game. Wraith, and ISS are more sneaky, and Intel, and special ops are more their game. Prime is right in the middle. Think of us as "The regular navy" We do whatever needs doing. Right now that's a lot of patrols on the edges of Galcom Territory, but it will include recon, ground assault, blockades, blockade running, diplomatic missions, raiding, and even cargo runs.

Those are just the Galcom fleets. The Insurgents have a number of fleets as well, and there are some alien fleets starting up, most notably the Gammulans (Big, Mean, and very advanced). Each of those have their own adgendas, but you'd have to ask the fleet commanders of those fleets what you'd be doing with them.

To answer your questions about ships, in Prime Fleet you'd have a choice of a cruiser (in one of our 5 wings), or a career as a marine (in the 1st Orbital Marine Battalion or the 1st Space Marine Battalion.) There is also the possibility of flying a cargo craft for the logistical section of the fleet.

I'm willing to assist in information, I am the recruitment officer for Orion Fleet. email me here : [email protected]

Epsilon 5 told you basically what you need to know. As far as history, read the old BC3k manual that is for download in http://www.3000ad.com/downloads/bc3k.shtml.. and the appendix is available in http://www.3000ad.com/downloads/bcm.shtml

Feast on the knowledge, learn about each fleet, and determine your interests. If you want to be a lonely marine on a planet with a machine gun or sniper rifle, good. If you wanna be a fighter pilot skipping around like luke skywalker in an x-wing, great. If you wanna be a starship commander on patrol near the borders of your enemy, in contact with your squadron commander - interdicting enemy ships, questioning hostiles, then that's cool too. Those roles are available in any military role.

If you wanna be a trader, or something of that nature, you can join the indies, or a mercenary bounty hunter like Boba Fett, or an assassain sent to kill diplomats.

Any questions just let me know.

SC took it off the downloads page. It's still on my site, but it's obsolete until I get a copy of the newer, revised edition from the game's CD.

I've had contact with a few newbies last week and this week. According to what they've told me, you have a kazon2366 coming your way, and it looks like Mister Gardner is looking into Orion. Give 'im the usual, if/when he gets to the Recruitment office.
