That's a lot of ships, Kal. It's good to be King of the Fleet. :salute2:

In orbit of Polaris-1

"I appreciate the response and apologize for the harshness of the request, we've had insurgent gun-runners recently in the area and have used false identification codes, including labeling a ship as being something it isn't. I have confirmed who you are, though I must also apologize that I can't accompany you. I am under orders to head to Sol."

Tracey nodded, "Understood, Commander. Pleasant journies." She prepared to close the channel, as Presto glanced off-screen and then back. "Actually Sergeant, I seem to have orders to escort you while you are in Polaris and Procyon,"

"Very well, then, Commander. We will be bypassing the local station today and visiting Polaris-2's northern civilian starbase for a change. We carry two fighters, rather than shuttles, which are currently deployed elsewhere. Therefore we will take the ship itself into the atmosphere in one minute."

(tag Kal/Presto)

About 20 minutes later, ECV Ashdod emerged from the planet's atmosphere close to GCV Aretes' orbital position, its small cargo bays loaded to the brim with valuables. GCV Deten had since joined Aretes. "Ashdod to Aretes. Commander Presto, we are ready to get underway. Course plotted for Actis V."

(tag Presto)

"Ashdod out." The Earthcom cruiser opened a hyperspace window and headed not for the wormhole leading to the Procyon system, but in a slightly different direction, out into nullspace. They flew past many uninhabited starsystems that were not on the jumpgate network but which layed between Polaris and Procyon. During the jump, Tracey moved from the command chair to her normal station at Tactical. She noticed an unidentified object that seemed to match their course and speed less than 700km to the port side. Why would there be something out here, in the middle of no where? "Ryan, drop us out of hyperspace now." Flight Officer Corporal Ryan Skidmore complied and brought Ashdod down to sublight speeds, less than half way to the Procyon system. "What is it, ma'am?" asked Medical Officer Corporal Kayla Trindad, who had joined them on Ashdod's bridge. Dodds squinted at her tacops display before saying, "Claire play back the last 30 seconds of tacops view of us on the bridge viewer." Nav Officer Lance Corporal Claire Tolen displayed the video image on the bigscreen. "There." Dodds said pointing to the screen. Zoom in on that object that tacops calls a 'disabled' asteroid." Sure enough it was not a rock at all but a fast moving ship, a stormcarrier. Skidmore pipped up, "Sergeant, I don't think they've seen us. And we can't see them now. Either they're cloaked or did not drop out of hyperspace when we did."

Tracey sighed in relief, "Very well, then. Hidetoshi, transmit our findings to Ragnarok and to our Prime Fleet escorts. Mr. Skidmore, resume course."

Rick piloted the shuttle away from New Frontier and looked up Daedalus's last known position. Admiral ShoHashi was quite weary of venturing out undermanned - let alone with only non-insurgents for company - especially after the Resupply Duty incident last month. He accepted Garrison's invitation and joined him in the shuttle's forward section, as Shingen, Mariko and Badman continued their card game in the larger rear section.

"Ah, Admiral. Just in time. Would you care to learn the long-range nav interface?"

"That was my thought too, First Sergeant." ShoHashi said taking his seat next to Garrison.

Rick brought up the navitron computer. The main computer overlayed the standard star chart (just the starsystems on the jumpgate network) with the latest reported locations and headings of many insurgent vessels. "There." said Sho, pointing to the Daedalus, up in the Lydan region of the Krynon system. Rick nodded, "That's good." He entered the selection into the helm as normally done from the navitron computer. "See? The interface is navitron, tacops and either up-to-date intel or probe telemetry. You're already familiar with these tools separately. So you're all set." He engaged the sequence and the shuttle entered hyperspace.

"Unlike regular hyperdrive, we can drop out at any time, change course mid-flight, or even jump in just a general direction without a specific destination in mind."

(tag Sho)

Several minutes later, the shuttle was crossing the edge of nullspace approaching Lydan when they came under attack from a Fal/Rai cruiser.

------

Lydan/Krynon, Credian Quadrant

canshow's crew had just finished modifying ICV Daedalus' engines for direct long-range hyperspace travel. Systems were just coming back online when they received a distress call from ShoHashi's shuttle in the ajacent region. The Admiral and his 'friends' were under attack by a Fal/Rai cruiser!

UCV-Deathstrike

Command

Smitty settled into the command-chair of the UCV-Deathstrike. He pulled down the neural link helmet, and placed it on his head.

He waited for the link to establish with the central CPU they called "Mother".

Smitty sat back in the chair and relaxed..sipping his glass of dark ale beer.

Once the link was established, Smitty ran through the core engineering commands.

The new hyper-drive was in place and was working perfectly. Smitty switched to perscan and watched all the Insurgent techs as they left his ship.

"This is Smitty..in command of the Deathstrike! All stations... prepare to dis-embark."

Smitty stared at the empty navigation and tactical stations. He was the only one in command.

He looked down at the command panel, next to his right hand..punched in the commands, and watched - on the main view-screen - as the ship decoupled from the station and entered a stable orbit.

"UCV-Deathstrike - you are cleared to depart." replied Frontier Station.

"Roger that"

The UCV-Deathstrike fell off from Frontier Station.. she rolled.. yawed and finally jumped.

The Deathstrike disappeared in a flash of light...

"Shingen, I know that you have only heard pockets of what I have had to say so far, but at most I have only spoken of the importance of a 'message' that I am compelled to convey. Before I go on, I need to ask you a question", Badman took a sip from his ale as he gently eye'd Shingen over the froth. ôCan your ship stop inside a wormhole?"

Shingen took up his cards and handed them off to the repair droid. He watched Mariko stand. She was pissed!

Mariko stood and glared at Shingen. Finally, she laughed and sat back in her chair. She eyed Badman.

"Wormholes? What do you know about wormholes?"

Canshow awoke to the sound of his name being called on the comm system. About a minute later, canshow was already heading out of his quarters with his BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) on, taking less than a minute to get on bridge.

"Someone called?" canshow said in a crabby mood as he took a seat near the tactical display.

His chief engineer reported on the screen, "Yes sir. Engine upgrades are completed, and all systems are back online. Iridium reserves have been cut by 20%. We're ready to roll."

Canshow was pleased and gave his chief engineer a nod. The screen flashed and turned black.

"Alright, re-plot course and make the jump."

As the Nav officer was plotting the coordinates, the comm officer called over to Canshow, "Sir, im picking up a distress call from this region."

Canshow signaled his Nav officer to stop, and walked over to the comm. systems waiting for the comm officer to talk.

"It's coming from a small insurgent shuttle near the Lydan-Khan wormhole. It's under attack from a fal/rai cruiser, and has sustained minor damage so far."

Canshow sighed. He thought for a second, "Alright. Launch FC 1&2 to distract the cruiser and 3&4 to escort the shuttle. Plot a jump towards the shuttle and power up combat systems."

His officers nodded and went to work. He could see his 4 FC entering hyperspace from the bridge's view.

-Entering hyperspace-

.

.

.

30 seconds later, the ICV-Daedalus jumped out of hyperspace right in front of the fal/rai cruiser.

"Launch all missiles at the bastard and fire the main guns."

The FCs did a good job distracting the cruiser, until it launched its own 2 FC to repel the threat.

"Sir, FC 1&2 are sustaining moderate damage. Your orders?"

Canshow looked at the tactical screen and poked around his available options.

"Tow the shuttle. FC 1-4 are to engage the cruiser and its craft until we've gotten the tractor beam locked. Once it's locked, make a clear jump to the other end of the system. The FCs are to mop-up any other hostile FC and then to dock with ship. They are to NOT engage the cruiser after dealing with the other FCs."

"Yes sir."

His pilots were experienced, and did this kind of thing before. He wouldn't expect a scratch.

A minute later, canshow felt the power shift to the tractor beam.

--Tractor beam locked--

"Make jump."

-entering hyperspace-

The ICV-Daedalus ended up near the tyrus-2/lydan jumpgate.

"Tell those pilots to dock now."

With the last of his FC docked a few minutes later, canshow gave the order to dock the shuttle in bay 4.

He went to his comm. screen and contacted his combat officer.

"Shuttle has docked in bay 4. I want 6 marines, 2 engineers, and 2 medics to meet me outside of that shuttle. We've read an insurgent signature so don't do anything ...hostile."

A yes sir could be heard and the screen flashed black.

Canshow left the bridge and took a short trip to bay 4.

Lydan/Krynon

The UCV-Deathstrike exited the Arenis/Krynon wormhole and cut engines.. she drifted away from the jump-point at inertia..

Smitty cut all power..all engines and life support. He figured he had at least 45 minutes of air in the command..he didn't know of anyone else on board.

"Mother, shut down primary systems.. reserve power only. Redirect all power to the coms array. Record all inter-system communications..."

The UCV-Deathstrike drifted in the void of space... silent, hidden and deadly...

Thanks, though it is a bit hard considering I have only one other member to RP with and no one else (glares at other prime fleet members who've yet to report in and be active) I'm about ready ta do some bootin here in a few weeks....

[rp]

Presto scanned the information relayed to him by the Ashdod. "Send this to the fleet lead," he told his communications officer. The girl nodded her head and sent the information up the chain.

"Run continuous scans of the area, a stormcarrier means only one thing: A Gammulan fleet is somewhere nearby," he pondered aloud and brought the tactical display to bear on where this 'disabled' asteroid had been. He let the computer plot several different courses, but none of them gave him any options. "Rats...." he said and snapped his fingers in protest.

He had to let it go for the time being; at least until the ship either decloaked or take them some hint of still being in the area - and he only hoped that hint wasn't a barrage across his bow.

----

Kalshion studied the tactical display; the various sensor probes that they had sent out were relaying a lot of useful information. Not to mention showcasing some raider on police action going on back in SOL. "Brave little bastards," he said with a laugh as one of the raiders suddenly disappeared from the display - followed by his companion vanishing seconds later. The four police cruisers then made their way back to their home station.

As he changed the display to show another sector; his communications officer suddenly turned toward him. "Sir, we have a priority transmission from the Aretes," she said and piped the information to the tactical display.

On the lower right hand corner sat the silhouette of a stormcarrier, on the lower left sat what had been assumed to be a 'disabled' asteroid. Then, toward the center of the display, were the various sensor data and tactical details of the report. "So, we have an uninvited guest in the area," Kalshion muttered under his breath.

He pondered what to do next, he naturally couldn't leave this system - not with the intelligence that he had, but he couldn't just let it go either. "Comm. Send a message to Beta Wing, inform them of the stormcarriers last known position," he said. "I want one fourth of that wing to start searching the area. Leave the other half back at HQ,"

The officer didn't miss a beat as she typed in the orders. Though in the back of her mind she couldn't help but say That's close to a hundred ships, carriers, cruisers... and I don't even want to imagine the fighter count. Oh well, I guess if you want to find something small and hidden you have to use a lot of something else. At least that Earthcom vessel is rest-assured that they'll be well protected... provided it doesn't go after them first, she shook her head and continued sending the orders.

"Also, relay a warning to our two squadron beta squadrons in Sol Earth about a possible Stormcarrier in the region," he said. His communications officer merely nodded her head.

He stood there for a few and started thinking about something. He was tapping his lower chin when he came to one realization. "Bring primary weapons array online, load missile tubes one through ten. Bring the mine laying equipment online and load it up with mines. Deploy fighter crafts one and two. Point our ship toward the Zelana wormhole," he ordered his crew. The ship's bridge lights dimmed to a dull red, but no alarms sounded. He had foregone the alarms, as it was nothing but a distraction to his crew.

Outside, the carrier briefly appeared in space as two fighter craft launched from her desks, and plotted a course for the Zelana wormhole.

"Wormholes? What do you know about wormholes?", replied Shingen.

Badman mused ... now came the test; a test of recall, not knowledge. Badman's mind had somehow been infused with fact's that he did not "know", but somehow could "recall". A most disconcerting, yet strangely pleasant sensation.

"Shingen, when I died, I saw the 'tunnel' that my men would refer to as they lay dying on the battlefield. I can only assume that others journey's after that point are not the same as mine, else everyone would have experienced this the same as I, and whilst I cannot be sure that that is not the case, I somehow am sure that my experience is unique. It felt .... 'unnatural' .... for me the light did not cease or diminish, but continued to grow. It grew till the light enveloped my whole being, the very essence of my life, my soul.", Badman looked at Shingen, judging the reflected credibility, the plausibility, the belief. "Whilst inside the light, a voice came to me. The voice of a man, but at the time I was sure was a god. There is also the vaguest recollection of an image, as a shadow in water", at this point Badman glazed over, as if in a trance.

Shingen leant forward, slowly raised his hand in front of Badman's face, snapped his fingers and yelled "Badman!!!" ..........

At the same moment, the shuttle was rocked by an impact that was not enough to destroy her, but certainly enough to send Maiko to the floor, and their ale's into the air.

Alarms, raised voices, and Badman laying on top of an even more alarmed Mariko.

Admiral ShoHashi was counting his blessings as the Daedalus began to tractor beam the shuttle into an empty shuttlebay. He looked back into the rear compartment of the shuttle and saw that everyone back there seemed to be okay and were starting to stand up, brushing their uniforms off with their hands.

As the soon as the shuttle came to a stop in the shuttlebay, Rick touched a button on the console and the hatch slid open to reveal Commander canshow standing there. canshow directed his medics into the shuttle and they began to ask if anyone needed attention. Badman, Shingen and the others told the medics they were okay.

Rick and ShoHashi made their way to the open hatch, helping the others through the hatch. ShoHashi made his way to canshow.

"Thanks for the assist, Commander," said ShoHashi.

"I was just doing my job, Admiral," replied canshow.

ShoHashi turned to Rick and said, "What's the plan now, Rick? Seems things aren't going very smoothly."

ICV Daedalus had its shields breached once and nearly lost a fighter before partially disabling the enemy cruiser. "Agreed, Admiral. We need to get to Sol."

(tag Sho)

"Commander, thanks for the assistance. What can I do to help?" Rick said as the ship shook slightly from the cruiser's receiding weapons fire.

"Any time, Garrison." canshow said as Rick, Sho, Shingen, Mariko, Badman and canshow all walked out of the shuttle bay. canshow handed Rick a ZS10 and three other assault rifles and said, "You can start by clearing out those 7 intruders on the lower decks. Admiral would you join me on the bridge?"

(tag Sho)

"Certainly, Commander." Rick turned to Mariko, giving her the first pick of weaponry. Shingen refused as he had brought his own ordinance. Rick turned to Badman, "Would you be more familiar with a non-ranged weapon?" he asked adding a 30 inch Ti daggar to the time-traveler's weapon options.

These strange metal projectile weapons were a far cry from the firey arrows Badman had trained with in his own time. But would a daggar of even this quality suffice against such an enemy? Two of canshow's marines lay injured on the deck plating. The six intruders spread across the cargo bay and coordinated their practiced fire against the four newcomers. Rick took aim with the ZS10 and fired with his own well-practiced accuracy.

Not one of the inturders made it alive. Rick and Mariko were taken to Medibay for injuries, Mariko's the most serious.

Rick had started his Earthcom career as an engineer. Now, against canshow's Medical Officer's better judgment, Rick assisted with repairs to the new hyperdrive. He adjusted another relay before nodding to the Chief Engineer. The chief tapped his communicator, "Engineering to Bridge. Long range hyperdrive has been restored."

"Acknowledged, Chief. Bridge out." canshow stood beside Sho looking 0ut the bridgeviewer. The Admiral had ordered Daedalus to Sol. But it was now canshow's choice to either jump directly there. Or take the wormhole to Polaris as normal. Little did they know that GCV Bison Gon Flure waited cloaked right on the other side.

Kalshion tapped his shoulder with his finger as one of his probes entered another seector. The probe ran a quick scan of the area before sending out an alert back to the Bison Gon Flurie.

The tactical map chimed to life, pegging an insurgent class vessel in Zelana/Lanix V. Kalshion's curiousity instantly turned serious. "Put fighters on delta status, inform them to prepare for combat," he told his comm. officer and then said. "Order the probe onto a new course that takes it away from that ship, luckily it'll show up as an exploration probe if they were to ever scan it. But if they do take interest in it, then send the auto-destruct code got it?"

His officer nodded and relayed the new destination coordinates to the probes computer; on the tactical map, the probe suddenly changed course that would take it to the next wormhole.

Meanwhile, Kalshion sent encrypted orders back to his forces. At least two carriers and one destroyer were pulled from the search and destroy mission and rerouted to Polaris 1.

"Sir? What should we expect," one of his younger officers asked.

He thought about it for a few seconds. "Probe data is enconclusive, so it's not possible to determine the ships type right now. But I'm going to assume its a carrier just to be safe, if it's not then the more the better. However, I'm curious why its a single insurgent vessel. Normally they travel in groups..... rarely do we see one alone," he tapped his lower chin in thought.

"What are you thinking sir?" another officer asked him.

Kalshion glanced away from the tactical map and at the main view screen. Several kilometers ahead of them a transport passed by and made the jump toward the Lanix V wormhole. "We'll offer them surrender," he said and then quickly added. "Even if they do have cloaking capabilities, we have ships scattered in every sector between here and Earth, it'll be rather hard - though not impossible - for them to slip through unnoticed. And since we are searching for a stromcarrier right now, they'd be in a very difficult position if they got pegged as said carrier," he grinned slightly and turned back toward the tactical display.

"Monitor that ship, if it starts approuching the Polaris 1 wormhole, cloak us got it?" he said and his weapons officer nodded.

All he could do now was wait and see what happened, and hope these insurgents weren't interested in dieing. He had orders to capture insurgents, and to only destroy them if it was absolutely needed.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was hoping i'd piggyback off another persons post i guess not.

I'm going to write a short post, waiting for Quaz or Sho to post in the meantime.

[ON]

"Any time, Garrison." canshow said as Rick, Sho, Shingen, Mariko, Badman and canshow all walked out of the shuttle bay. canshow handed Rick a ZS10 and three other assault rifles and said, "You can start by clearing out those 7 intruders on the lower decks."

canshow took a minute to write up a message to his XO explaining the current situation before asking the Admiral to join him on the bridge.

" Admiral would you join me on the bridge?"

Canshow snapped his fingers, ordering his remaining marines to escort Sho and himself to the bridge, while the medics took the 2 injured marines to the medibay. Canshow grumbled to himself loudly while taking a transporter to the bridge, "Nothings going right today..." with Sho walking at his side.

For a moment, shots could be heard coming from Cargo bay 1 and screams of men.

Finally, both men arrived at the bridge without much chatter. The crew saluted Admiral Sho and Commander canshow before returning back to their duties. Sho went to the bridge patiently waiting for canshow, looking out to space, while canshow was assessing damage and getting reports from engineering.

"Engineering to Bridge.

Canshow took a deep breathe and sighed heavily. "Take us to Sol. Wherever there's one raider, there's surely more to follow."

With a "Yes commander," the ship entered hyperspace. Repairs on the hyperdrive were complete, and the engineers were ordered to check the entire ship for any faults. Canshow didn't want to jump right into the heart of EarthCom with a faulty shield and cloaking device. A simple misplaced wire or cable could mean death for the entire crew and ship, so he had to take precautions; especially after taking some shrapnel damage from a couple of destroyed raider FCs.

"Care for some Scotch, Admiral?"

The Insurgent carrier pitched and rolled, pointing slightly to its left and bellow the Polaris wormhole. ICV Daedalus entered hyperspace and headed past it, straight into nullspace toward the Terran quadrant, and disappeared from the 'explorer' probe's long range sensors within seconds. Since this new long-range hyperdrive did not shield the ship from weapons fire like the standard one, Galcom ships could not only detect Daedalus as normal (unless it was cloaked) but fire on it as well while it was still in hyperspace. Time would tell if Kalshion's forces would get that chance before Garrison, Shingen, Mariko and the Insurgents made it to Sol.

....

Rick knew a confrontation with Galcom would come sooner or later. He was prepared to answer for, and justify, his actions.

"Sir! Insurgent ship just entered hyper-space!" shouted his sensors officer as she rerouted the probe to another destination.

"What's it course and speed?!" Kalshion shouted as he brought up the tactical display. He studied the layout as small lines of red appeared across the map. Suddenly the line for the insurgent ship pegged it heading straight for Sol. "Son of a.... pass word onto to Alpha Wing. We have a priority ship headed straight for Sol! I want it intercepted NOW!" he shouted toward his communications officer, the girl just nodded and started sending out the transmissions.

He was somewhat glad that his carrier's hyperdrive was brand-new but he didn't know if he could catch up. "Recall all fighters, plot a course to intercept that ship!"

"Fighters returning!"

"Sir! I have four squads that are currently heading back to sol. I have a cruiser group that is requesting permission to intercept!" said another officer in a sligthly german accent. Kalshion merely nodded.

It was strange though, normally tagging a ship in hyperspace wasn't easy to do, none-more-so when they fell off the grid. They could see the ships direction quite clearly right now, and that he knew meant that either the ships hyperspace was malfunctioning, or something else was up. "Odd," was all he said before he heard his flight officer inform him that their fighters had docked.

Space pulled apart as his firestrom entered hyperspace; seconds later and the ship vanished into Nullspace. "ETA?!" Kalshion shouted.

"Five minutes sir! I can cut that time if we decloak-" said his officer before Kalshion interrupted him. "No, I want to remain invisible to them until we catch up," he said.

His weapons officer didn't miss a beat; bringing the ship to maximum combat alert. The crews manned their stations, the fighter pilots took a quick breather before getting back into their cockpits. "To bad we didn't have time to get those artifacts properly scanned," someone on the bridge said. Kalshion had to agree, he would've preferred to have the artifacts they had discovered put to use but he wasn't about ready to use a non-researched object in the middle of the battlefield.

"ETA Three minutes!"

Kalshion watched the viewscreen; the ship was growing bigger as they got closer. It dawned on him, he wondered if, because the ship was plainly visible. Could he afford to fire his ships main weapons. As the ship entered into firing range, he gave the order to target the carriers main engines and with that, his main weapons system fired off a volley at the ship. Now was time to see if the ship could take damage, or if it was just a mere sensor glitche of some sort. "Waiting games, I hate waiting games!" grumbled Kalshion.

"What's happening, canshow?" ShoHashi shouted.

Canshow picked himself up from the floor and went to the diagnostics station. Canshow started to swear.

"We've been hit by a couple of volleys of gun fire. The culprit is identified as a GalCom ship." Canshow continued to read the screen and talk to his communications officer.

There was another ripple through the ship and then nothing. "Bastards shot our engines."

Canshow looked back at the screen and had a 10 second conversation with his officer.

"Bad news is, sub-light engines are badly damaged. Our max speed out of hyperspace is about 97 m/s. Good news is that they failed to hit the hyperdrive, so we're still going to get at Sol. A shielding flaw in the hyperdrive made our engines vulnerable to such catastrophe."

Canshow opened up a channel to his Chief Engineer, "What's the damage?"

"It's not as bad as i thought. Hyperdrive is intact, but 3 of the engines are shot." The chief engineer looked behind him as some sparks shot up from the wiring.

"Can you start repairs?"

"Yes sir. I will need every engineer. This is not a short fix." He ducked as a marine used a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire.

"Roger. You have authority over the engineering staff, also, see if you can re-route more power into the hyperdrive. Canshow out." Canshow was on fire now. He could not let anymore rodents foil with the Insurgents's plans.

"I want the cloak activated the second we drop out of hyperspace. Also, activate our jammer. If there's no shielding around the engines, then we're flying targets out here."

Severals thumps reverberated through the Bison's hull as the main array fired again. Kalshion was dissatisfied that they hadn't taken out the hyper-drive, but was satisfied that they hit the engines, wit hthat he knew all those weeks of training and hunting had paid off. "Continue fire, once we exit hyperspace, I want all ships in the area to converge and begin their assault," he ordered.

"Yes Sir!" his officers all shouted.

He stood there pondering several options - including the one of the ship cloaking the moment they dropped out. "I want all ships to decrease the power rating on their main arrays so they'll be able to fire at a quicker rate, just in case they cloak I want a means of finding them. I want three ships per gate, depending on where we follow them to," he said and then looked at the tactical map. "Where are they headed exactly... one insurgent ship. That's one roach to worry about but not enough to really cause a wide-spread problem.... so what is there goal...." he tapped his lower chin in thought.

"Weapons, status on torpedos?"

"Armed and ready sir."

"Fighters?"

"Rearmed and ready to launch sir."

"Good, now we just have to see what move they make. The sooner we capture that ship, and sooner we can figure out what the heck is going on," Kalshion said and continued to watch the display. Though I want to know, why one ship...

He stood there in thought and looked off to his side, he stared at another display, two halves of the Alpha Wing he had sent to SoL had just arrived there moment ago - they started to fan out into the surroundings sectors. He knew that even if they didn't disable this ship out here, the moment it arrived it would be hard-pressed to get anywhere. "Continue to fire, I want her disabled before we get to Sol," he ordered.

ICV Daedalus, a Galactan-class (Mark 2) Battlecruiser

In hyperspace from Lanix V enroute to Sol

Currently entering the Sirius system

After Rick had finished in Engineering he headed for the Bridge. Weapons fire struck the ship and sent the Earhcom Command Officer into the starboard bulkhead. He picked himself up as the turbolift reached the Bridge. The doors opened and he entered. Commander Canshow spoke with his Chief Engineer over the internal comlink. ".... I want the cloak activated the second we drop out of hyperspace. Also, activate our jammer. If there's no shielding around the engines, then we're flying targets out here."

ShoHashi was a bit annoyed with the recent developments when he saw Garrison. "First Sergeant!" He started. "Just what is one of my best ships doing here playing tag with all of Prime Fleet? With the freedom of over one hundred Insurgents at stake, what exactly is your plan?"

"We are here to find out about Credian fleet movements and to open talks with the UFN about recognizing the Insurgents as a separate nation, with its current territorial holdings and ending the cold war with the UFN. Initially, there will be a confrontation. If we can make it happen in Sol rather than out here, then my negotiating job will be a bit easier. Keep going, yes. But I'm asking you to trust me."

ECV Ashdod, tracking a Stormcarrier near Centeris, Alpha Centauri

Sergeant First Class Tracey Dodds, currently commanding the Ashdod in First Sergeant Garrison's stead, watched the tactical display as the Earthcom cruiser scanned one nullspace sector after another. Commander Presto's and several other Beta Wing craft now shaddowed them as well, now drawing attention from Orion Fleet HQ as well. A trace of radiation suddenly accelerated away from the planet, turning into a full fledged Stormcarrier that could no longer hold its cloak within a modified hyperspace field. The new threat also headed for Sol, with its own Prime Fleet pursuers and Vanguard Fleet pursuer. The developing incident was quickly reported to Garrison and Kalshion through different channels.

His voice curse-laden, Kalshion quickly barked orders to his crew. His ship started on a parrellell course to the insurgent vessel, his weapons fell strangely silent and he had no desire to continue this fight. "Our concern is the gammulans," he said before making a gesture to one of his officers.

The main weapons array came online for one last time, and fired a modified bolt of energy toward the insurgent. This particular weapon, though similiar to the normal energy fired from the array, would generate a small, almost non-descrept enegy field for Prime Fleet, Earth Com, and any other military ship could detect and track. It was the easiest way to follow them, yet also one of those weapons that could be dealt with if the ships crew were willing to depart with a little bit of their ship - considering the weapon bore into the hull and left the crater there to simmer. He knew it might take at least an hour, perhaps less, before that commander figured out what it was that was fired, but then again it'd take a lot longer to clean it off. But he did hope that it would be enough for his ships to not only stop that ship, but also to retain its crew for him to talk to.

When the weapon was away, the Firestrom banked hard left and plotted an intercept course for the Stormcarrier. Two Nightstars, which had been behind him, continued their pursuit course of the Insurgent Vessel. Their orders now were to just tail it, and keep an eye on them, not firing unless fired upon. And yet, Kalshion knew that something very odd was happening. An insurgent. A Gammulan. What were two enemies of Sol doing heading to the same destination?

He pondered it, something was afoot and he knew it. The insurgents were up to something, and his gut kept telling him that it wasn't something bad. He played back the message that was sent to him, a conversation between Presto and a 'Sergeant First Class Tracey Dodds', he listened to it repeatedly but something just didn't sound right to him. Something seemed... out of place... he had one of bring him a list of ships that Earthcom had that were known to Prime Fleet, and even a couple, that they weren't supposed to know of.

Flipping through the ships; he soon came upon the Ashdod. It's crew-member report came up onto the screen, he looked through it and played back the message yet again.

Certainly, Commander Presto. I'm Sergeant First Class Tracey Dodds, First Officer of this vessel. Our Commander, First Sergeant Richard Garrison, is currently away on other business. In his stead, I've been ordered to conduct a standard roaming patrol until ordered otherwise. In the process we've been conducting some trading runs to help supplement Vanguard Fleet's UFN budget. What can we do for you? Would you care to accompany us

He stopped and thought, then cut it down.

I'm Sergeant First Class Tracey Dodds, First Officer of this vessel. Our Commander, First Sergeant Richard Garrison, is currently away on other business

Tapping his lower chin, he now had a thought that came to him. "Where is their First Sergeant at exactly?" he asked himself.

"No records of him entering any of the starports, at least not within the past few days.." said his communications officer.

A grin tugged on the edge of Kalshion's face. "Why do I get this gut feeling I know where he is..." he said and had his communications officer hail the Ashdod.

"Ashdod, this is Strategic Commander Kalshion, leader of Prime Fleet, please respond to this message," he said in a serious tone. He was tired of playing games, he knew that Earthcom was up to something and now he wanted to know what exactly it was. Of course, the message lag would be something he'd have to contend with.

Unbeknowst to him or his officers, several of his Nightstar and Firestrom class carriers suddenly dropped off the grid, their ID's changing very quickly to display them as Gammulan before disappearing completely.

ICV Daedalus, in hyperspace between Lyrius and Jupiter

So far, few of the other pursuing Galcom craft had achieved a weapons lock on the Insurgent heavy carrier, though two Wraith Fleet craft had since joined the chase. But rerouted shielding to the aft emitters could only slow down the onslaught of main guns fire from the Prime Fleet flagship. Another volley found its mark as Canshow's comms officer spoke up when Garrison finished speaking. "Sirs, receiving a wide beam unencrypted transmission from Earth Command."

"Put it through." ShoHashi ordered as Canshow confirmed the Admiral's order with a nod.

===begin transmission===

From: ECV Ashdod

To: All Terran Ships

Subj: Gammulan Incursion to Sol

The Stormcarrier we've been tracking with Beta Wing will reach Sol in 30 minutes.

Godspeed, Commanders!

Sergeant First Class Tracey Dodds

First Officer

ECV Ashdod

===end transmission===

Kalshion's craft suddenly stopped firing at ICV Daedalus and pulled along side her in hyperspace. GCV Bison Gon Flurie fired a modified burst at Daedalus before moving off in pursuit of the Stormcarrier. Two Nightstars took up trailing positions behind Daedalus, not firing just following.

canshow's Tactical Officer frowned and rechecked her readings. "That last burst was different. Several spots on that side of the hull are now radiating on several frequencies."

"Got it, thanks." Commander Canshow pressed a button on his command chair. "Chief! Talk to me."

Engineering> "Kendrick here, Commander. I'm reading the same emissions from our port-side hull. I've currently got all system engineers on the engines and all flight engineers repairing other systems."

Canshow outwardly still looked frustrated. But at least his crew were still at their best. "Very good, Ken. Leave the radiation alone, as long as it doesn't spread and doesn't hurt anyone. ETA on current repairs?"

Engineering> "You will have full impulse in 20 minutes, all other systems within the hour."

"Helm, ETA to Sol?"

The Flight Officer didn't skip a beat. "7 minutes to Jupiter, 9 to Mercury, depending on where we're going."

Shohashi sighed; this was beyond just cutting it close. Those ETAs didn't add up. "Garrison, where within Sol are we going?"

"To Starbase Ragnarok. It's in direct Solar orbit currently on the other side of the star from Mercury, orbiting twice as close. If we make it that far, then Vanguard Fleet forces will take responsibility for us there. You'll be safe from Galcom for the moment while the brass try to sort it all out. But 'till then we've got to keep going."

------

ECV Ashdod, in hyperspace between Centeris and Pluto

Space travel worked a lot like air travel. After many painstaking years of failed experimentation in the 24th through 27th centuries, humans finally conquered the light barrier. In the process, they discovered such a barrier worked a lot like the sound barrier. Subsonic was analogous to sublight. Resistance at a given speed was low to nothing in space. But once one crossed the light speed threshold with a temporal dampener, space-time frontial resistance increased exponentially. As hyperspace engine design evolved, it was the bigger ships who often had the edge over smaller craft above the light speed barrier - while the little ones generally maneuvered better anywhere below the speed of light.

Sergeant Dodds reflected on that as the Galcom craft pursuing the Stormcarrier with ECV Ashdod slowly pulled passed the Earthcom craft. Apparently, word had reached Fleet Leader Kalshion. More ships were on the way. Would it be enough? Or even in time? Where within Sol were the Gammulans going to strike?

Comms Officer Lance Corporal Hidetoshi Kamezaki pipped up from her station. "Sir" she stuck to regulation calling any superior sir regardless of gender.

Tracey almost laughed, it'd been a while since she'd been called sir. "Yes, Hidetoshi? What've you got?"

"We're being hailed by Bison Gon Fluire."

The Prime Fleet flagship? "On screen." she ordered.

"Ashdod, this is Strategic Commander Kalshion, leader of Prime Fleet, please respond to this message,"

"Strategic Commander! This IS and honor. First Officer Tracey Dodds speaking. What may I do for you sir?"

The man on the bridgeviewer did not look happy. "Sergeant I understand your Commanding Officer is currently off ship. What exactly is he doing?"

Didn't Strategic Commander Kalshion know plenty of Vanguard Fleet brass he could contact? Aw well. He probably wanted to skip the horse's mouth and get right to the meat of the action. Dodds knew she'd have to address the Galcom flag officer as a superior, even though he was in a different command structure. Additionally, such a little cruiser as Ashdod lacked even a Commander's ready room to take such a potentially private call. But Tracey had nothing to hide from her crew, let alone Galcom.

"Commander Garrison is gathering intel on recent Credian Fleet movements. Brass in Vanguard Fleet's General Combat Wing fear they may be mounting an invasion of Terran space. Rick was ordered to enlist any help he deemed necessary. We've not heard from him in two days. As far as I know, this has nothing to do with the recent Gammulan incursion."

Kalshion's upper eye twitched.

"And no one felt it prudent to at least give some unofficial word to Prime?" he said and then shook his head. "I have a general idea on where you sergeant is, luckily my own fleet intelligence officers have noticed this odd movement as well," he tapped his lower lip. "Let's just hope this has nothing to do with the Gammulans..."

All the rigs yelled at him to bring Garrison in for questioning; even though he wasn't Galcom. Yet, at the same time, despite all of his ships he had at his hands - he didn't have the manpower to repel a full invasion of Sol. Not to mention that he was walking a very thin line, most of his ships were running on a skeleton crew right now. If anyone discovered that, they'd be defenseless.

With a heavy sigh he looked at Tracey Dodds in the eyes. "For your sake, First Officer, let's just hope he doesn't get the attention of anyone else in Galcom and those he enlists are truly there to help us and not destroy us from within," he said and glanced off screen. He briefly silenced the screen as he gave an order to his helmsmen, then unmuted the audio. "God Speed First Officer, keep your crew safe. Commander Presto will continue to be your escort," he said and closed the communications.

He sat back down on the chair and rubbed his temple. "You think she's lying?" he heard one of his officers say.

"I couldn't tell to be honest, its hard sometimes when you are transmitting with lag," he said and turned back toward the view screen. "Divert more ships from Alpha to tail the StormCarrier," he said. His ship had dropped it's pursuit of the Stormcarrier and was now heading right back toward the ICV-Daedalus.

What burned his anger more though was Earthcoms lack of sharing information. "Comm. Open up a line to Vanguard High Command, I want answers.." he said but wasn't expecting a response so quickly, not to mention the answer wasn't what he wanted.

"No can do sir; I just tried, can't establish a positive link. It's possible they are having technical problems or-" she said before being cut off.

"Someone's tampering with the communications grid," Kalshion said and shook his head. "Well played, I wouldn't be surprised if this has to do with either what Todd said or that Gammulan vessel. Looks like our answers will be coming from Garrison," he said and stood up.

As his ship came up behind the Daedalus, the two Nightstars moved off to the side but then took up an escort position behind the Daedalus. The Bison Gon Flurie moved up to the side, her weapons silent, her ship showed no want for Aggression. Instead, it merely followed - yet if anyone had been paying attention they'd have noticed that the radiation signature that was lighting up the Daedalus was now gone.

"Alright, I'll trust you once again. We've come this far at least." replied ShoHashi.

ShoHashi was hoping to himself that this still wasn't some elaborate hoax to get him captured. GalCom would love to get their hands on him. With all that was happening he was starting to have second thoughts. Things needed to change pretty quickly for him to feel more comfortable again.

"Engines are at 55% Commander. I have something to point out though."

"What is it, Kendrick?"

"I can repair the engines only so much. The artifact is interfering with the power-flow and i won't be able to get engines above 80% as long as it stays connected.

"So what are you expecting me to do, Kendrick? It took 3 hours just to hook it up and then another hour to make it work, IN Gammulan space! Im not risking speed over this. Either find a way to re-route the power or repair the engines to max performance. We'll be in Sol in under a minute, in the meantime, redirect power from weapons to the cloak & shields. Canshow out."

The monitor screen flashed and turned black. Canshow went over to his navigations officer to have a talk. "Jump out near the star's corona sphere. " The officer looked at canshow with a vague look and nodded. ShoHashi overheard them and also gave canshow a look of concern.

The ICV-Daedalus jumped out of hyperspace and activated it's cloak. The ship jumped out right outside the sun's Corona sphere and laid there. Canshow went over to his station and read the assessment report.

"Turn off the cloak."

"Sir?"

"Turn it off. There's no need to waste iridium."

The Daedalus uncloaked and stopped giving off radiation.

ShoHashi turned to canshow and faced him. "Any reason your giving our position away to the whole GalCom fleet commander?"

Canshow's expression turned into a grin. "The sun's corona sphere will shield us from any scanners, probes, or any other scanning equipment. The only way to see us is to get in a 200km radius, and even then, the corona sphere will make it impossible to do a visual. Our sensors will be affected too, unfortunately. Our shield's should hold in this environment at 45% with full power. Even if our shields fail, we'd have 8 hours until the radiation emitting from the star becomes fatal."

Kalshion will meet Garrison in this plot.

[RP]

ECV Ashdod

Kalshion's upper eye twitched.

"And no one felt it prudent to at least give some unofficial word to Prime?" he said and then shook his head. "I have a general idea on where you sergeant is, luckily my own fleet intelligence officers have noticed this odd movement as well," he tapped his lower lip. "Let's just hope this has nothing to do with the Gammulans..."

Tracey squinted, "I don't see why my superiors would keep that sort of info from you, sir. It seems in our common interest to know if the Credians are turning aggressive toward the UFN. I will try to contact Garrison and tell him you want to talk with him."

With a heavy sigh Kalshion looked at Tracey Dodds in the eyes.

Tracey was just about to relay a message to Garrison's last known location when Comms Officer Kamezaki told her that a trader had visited New Frontier and saw Rick and Shohashi board ICV Daedalus. Why would he ask the Insurgents for help? Tracey shrugged, content to pass at least that much back to Kalshion.

"Reestablish contact, 'toshi." The comms officer pressed a button and nodded. "Sir, we've just received word that Garrison is aboard the Insurgent craft you've been pursuing, but not as a prisoner. I don't know why he's chosen this course of action. Vanguard Fleet procedure is to approach such a formerly enemy craft as neutral in the short term. I have my own battle to fight now and so will leave my Commander's protection in your capable hands. I ask that you not hurt him if you attack those Insurgents. In light of these developments Strat Cmdr, do you need anything else from me?"

------

ICV Daedalus had just passed out of the Jupiter region as unbeknownst to them the still cloaked GCV Bison Gon Flurie had reassumed its former position trailing along side her. Kendrick reported that the radiation level had dropped off sharply, but not enough for the cloak to hide. Canshow ordered the ship cloaked nonetheless as he took Daedalus into Sol's corona, before decloaking. They did not know if Kalshion had followed or changed course.

Rick addressed the two Insurgent commanding officers. "Up 'till now we've done about all the evading we can. You both now have a choice. Either follow the corona to the other side of the star and dock with Ragnarok, or emerge from the corona and go help defend whatever the stormcarrier attacks when it arrives. Either way we've run about as far as we can. It's time to act."

------

Pluto/Sol

within 900k of Starstation Gazer1

Two armed transports had launched from station Gazer1 after a significant trade of goods and materials and were now headed for Empirian space. Just as they were about to ender hyperspace, the Stormcarrier appeared on long range sensors at the edge of Pluto's nullspace. Before the transports could even change course, the G-super carrier was on top of them. Gazer1 was too far away to lend assistance with it's turrets, but it did launch missiles and 10 fighters. The Prime Fleet craft Kalshion had ordered in pursuit quickly made up ground, followed closely by the engine-labored ECV Ashdod.

Kalshion stared at the transmission screen and at Tracey. He pondered what she had told him and a smile creased his face. "I might need your help later," he said and looked off the screen. "I also had a feeling that your missing Commander was on that ship, it all started to make sense. Either way, becareful out there as---" he said before his communications officer spun in her chair, getting his attention, her expression was controlled panic.

"Sir! G-Super Carrier is assaulting two transports near Starstation Gazer 1! Our ships are already engaging but the transports are reporting heavy fire!" she shouted.

He scowled. "I think we know where the carrier is now, unless you want a firefight, I would advise you to stay clear of Gazer 1," he reported. "Fly Safe," he said and silenced the transmission for the second time.

Now he was looking at open space, uncloaked and scanning open space with both internal sensors and probes; he had lost that insurgent vessel shortly after dampening the weapon they had used. He was impressed, very impressed, that the insurgent commander of that ship had managed to elude him. "Comm.... we have every communications frequency ever used by the insurgents, correct?"

"Most of them sir, but they tend to change them once every so often, but the current one that they've been using - we have," said his communications officer, who hadn't yet turned back toward her station.

"The latest transmission scheme they've been using, access it... and relay the following message," he said and collasped his hands together. He was originally going to send an overt message, but now he wanted to run the riskf of exposing Garrison - even though in reality - no one else would be able to hear his transmission.

He thought for a moment and decided on a false name. "This is Commander Sensha of the GCV-Gentre to ICV Vessel, we know you have an Earthcom officer on board - his name being Garrison. If you expect to evade Prime's forces, then respond to this message," he said and looked back at his communications officer. His portait was intentionally blurred to help hide his identity, not to mention, to make it seem like they had suffered some damage before. Kalshion knew, however, that this cherade wouldn't last for very long - especially if Garrison 'did' respond to him.

In truth, he was concerned about the Gammulans. As he looked at the tactical display, one of his ships which was located near the Gammulan border, was transmissing information related to twenty five other Gammulan starships, including six Stromcarriers. The insurgents hate our guts, but I know that they'd rather be the ones to kill us than the Gammulans.... he chuckled at the thought and was glad he wasn't transmitting. A strange relationship we play, there have been instances where Insurgent and Galcom forces have fought alongside during Gammulans incursions... of course... right after the battle the two sides continue their fighting.. he shook his head.

----

Commander Presto barked orders to his officers; he didn't know if they were going to engage or not, it was all up to Tracey if they would. In either case, he wanted to be ready.

ICV Daedalus, in Sol's corona

Bridge

"Commander, Admiral, we're receiving a transmission from a Galcom craft on one of our own frequencies."

"Put it through, audio only." Canshow ordered.

The voice on the speakers was severly distorted, perhaps from the ensuing firefight in Pluto region. "This is Commander Sensha of the GCV-Gentre to ICV Vessel, we know you have an Earthcom officer on board - his name being Garrison. If you expect to evade Prime's forces, then respond to this message,"

"Ignore it." ShoHashi said. "I'd like to deal with one UFN command structure at a time. Unless you have any objections, Canshow, we're going to Ragnarok."

Rick stood near the comms officer and the ship's communications console, ready to offer to transmit their intentions to Ashdod and Starbase Ragnarok depending on what Canshow decided.

ECV Ashdod

Pluto/Sol, near Gazer1

Tracey Dodds had learned in Command School - a 4 year program taken by all enlistedmen who hoped to break into the Sergeant grades - to protect the most amount of lives she could when faced with a choice like now. Should she let Galcom do the dangerous work and protect Rick's crew of twentyfive? Or should she do what she could to keep that Stormcarrier from taking more innocent live than it already had? She had posed just such a hypothetical question to Rick before this mission. The answer was clear, it wouldn't have mattered if this was the middle of Valkerie space, with no Galcom forces around at all. Tracey knew she had to take the Ashdod into combat and at least help Prime Fleet take it out.

The Stormcarrier hadn't launched any fighters or missiles yet. It began to target its turrets at the Gazer1 fighters as it's main guns finished off the shields of both transports and disabled the engines of one. The other, a Canlon armed transport, returned fire as best it could. Ashdod moved in for the attack as it's own two fighters prepaired for launch.

ICV Daedalus, in Sol's corona

Bridge

"Helm, lay in a course." Canshow sighed after a brief pause. "Engage."

The Insurgent Galactan-class Battlecruiser adjusted its sub-orbital path to quickly traverse the sun's corona (atmosphere) to the far side where Ragnarok awaited her. Rick informed the starbase and Ashdod of Daedalus' intentions and ETA. Within minutes Earthcom had transmitted a message to Galactic Command. Galcom brass quickly forwarded the pertinant info to GCVs Svoboda, Bison Gon Flurie, and Echelon in the middle of the Gammulan battle.

SUBJ: For Your Eyes Only

Stratetic Commanders,

Vanguard High Command has informed me that a delegation of Insurgents is visiting their headquarters in deep Solar orbit. I'm charging one of you to go to that Earthcom Starbase and participate in the talks. I don't care which one of you it is. Ben, I understand you may be otherwise detained at this time. Case, I haven't heard from you in a while. I'll leave who will go for you three to decide. I also don't care if you decide to befriend the Insurgents or make enemies with Earthcom.

I hereby vest in the three of you my authority to formulate new policy and carry it out as you see fit until I say otherwise. I do not wish to be disturbed with this rubbish until our next scheduled high command meeting on April 4th.

Dismissed.

Pluto/Sol, near Gazer1

The Canlon armed transport got a few more shots away before the Stormcarrier destroyed it and its companion transport in four well placed shots from its main guns. It then turned all is attention on the Galcom carriers and cruisers now coming to bear on her. The Stormcarrier waited until now to launch any fighters as Sergeant First Class Tracey Dodds took ECV Ashdod in for its first straifing run and quickly deployed its own two fighters. Would Commander Presto and the other Prime craft followed suit? The stormcarrier then proceeded to deploy two hundred crab and leech mines. Fighters kept emerging from her cinsister hull - now at 17 - well above the standard complement of 12.

As the carrier began to launch its own missiles and target its turrets at the scientist station's long range missiles.....

More fighters were coming on line....
